## **Trustees’ annual report for the period ended 31 December 2020** The trustees present the annual report and accounts of The Philadelphia Trust in Eastern Europe registered charity number 1076936. ## **Reference and administration details** ## **Address** The registered address of the charity is 13 Clos Enfys, Caerphilly, CF83 1SB ## **Trustees** The following persons are the trustees of the charity at the date of this report and, except where stated, were trustees for the whole of the year ended 31 December 2020. Roger Brind Derek Ford Mark Bartlett Paul Thomas Abe Samuel Emily Kate Davies Bryan Richard Jenkins Samuel Young (appointed 1[st] June 2020) ## **Structure, governance and management** The charity was first registered on the 6[th] June 1999 when it was allocated the Charity Number 1076936 and has the status of Standard Registration. New trustees are appointed by the trustees, who keep the composition of the trustee body under regular review to ensure that it includes sufficient people with the time and expertise needed to manage and run the charity effectively. The day to day running of the charity is delegated to a small management group consisting of Roger Brind, Derek Ford, Bryan Jenkins, Mark Bartlett and Paul Thomas who meet on an ad-hoc basis. In addition, all the trustees are directly involved in the activities of the charity as volunteers and therefore maintain a close knowledge of its work and activities. ## **Objectives and activities** The principal objectives of the charity are the advancement of the Christian Religion throughout Central and Eastern Europe and the relief of poverty, sickness and distress among people throughout that area. To achieve these objectives visits are made to Churches for times of Bible teaching and support. Events are also arranged with churches for friendship and love to be shown to people where they are based. The charity also arranges an annual two week Conference where representatives from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are invited to meet for a time of Bible Study, discussion and seminar along with fellowship and the development of friendship. Practical support is also given to churches and individual people with specific needs. In addition to this a number of Outreach Events are held in various countries where the teaching of English is used as an Evangelical Tool. We also take part in a number of Children’s Outreach Events that are linked to churches in Hungary, Czechia, Poland and Ukraine. The charity’s aim is that as many people as possible, both Christian and non-Christian, benefit from its work throughout Central and Eastern Europe. The trustees have regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission in relation to public benefit and are satisfied that significant public benefit is achieved as a result of these activities. The activities of the charity depend heavily on the input of people who give freely of their time because of their commitment to the charity’s objectives. The trustees are very grateful for the input of these volunteers without whom the charity could not operate in the way that it does. ## **Achievements and performance** During the year 2020, due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, it was not possible to carry out the usual visits to Ukraine, Poland, Czechia (formerly known as Czech Republic), Romania and Hungary. The trustees have been able to take part in a number of Christian activities throughout Central and Eastern Europe using Online Platforms. The trustees have also taken an active part in the establishment and growth of the Antioch Bible School in the Volyn Region of Ukraine. The charity arranged an online Conference in August of this year. It was held using the medium of Zoom and was well attended by representatives of a number of countries. The Trustees have also been pleased to support the Agape Centre at Lutsk, Ukraine as they seek to care for those who are disabled and in need. ## **Financial review** The income of the charity arises mainly from grants made by other Christian Charities, gifts from churches and gifts from private individuals. Quite often the money received is given as support for a particular project or event and the trustees are careful to ensure that the wishes of the donors are complied with. The charity’s policy on reserves it that sufficient funds should be retained to ensure that The Philadelphia Trust in Eastern Europe can meet its financial commitments as they fall due. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below. ## **Independent examiner's statement** In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention 1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the requirements: - to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; and - to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act - have not been met; or 2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
