Addendum
RB - I am delighted to say that following our AGM I have had offers from two parents to join the 3rds Executive Committee as parent reps and one non-parent to become our chairperson of the 3rds Executive Committee.
The parent Representatives are:
Verity Ross who is already a member of our Group as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader at Tuesday’s Cub Pack. Verity is already a Trustee of our Group by virtue of her role in Scouting and I consider she will have an important role on our Executive, providing a clear link with the Cub leadership, operation of Scouting within our Group and most importantly connection with our youth as a Cub parent. She will, subject to the Executives approval become an Ex officio member of our committee.
James White is Tuesday Cub parent who attended our recent AGM and put himself forward after the close of the AGM to join the 3[rd] Executive Committee. I therefore subsequently met with him and carried out a DBS check and his disclosure has already come through, Number 1828625872 with an issue date of 28[th] April 2023. During our conversation it was clear to me that James will be a great asset to our committee as a parent representative. He also comes with a great wealth of experience on fundraising matters through his sons school and other matters. I propose James as a Co-opted member to the 3[rd] Bramshill Scout Group Executive Committee.
Nicola Mullins following a post AGM search has offered to become Chairperson of the 3rds Executive Committee and Board of Trustees. She is neighbour to Verity Ross and a nonparent but has come as a recommendation to us from Verity. Alastair and myself had opportunity to talk to her at Tuesday‘s Cub Pack meeting when she came with Verity to introduce herself. The following chat we had with Nicola we consider having been very positive. She has a number of business-related DBS disclosures but not a Scouting one but it is now underway. Personally I see no reason to delay in proposing to you that we co-opt Nicola on our Executive Committee as Chairperson but if you would prefer to wait until her Scouting DBS comes through please say..
I would be grateful if I could have your vote of approval or not for the 3 nominations above to the 3rds Executive Committee.
If a positive response is received I hope we will be able to have our first meeting after we return from camp.

Chair Report
Nicola Mullins (nicola.mullins@3rdbramshill.org)
The 3[rd] Bramshill Group continues to flourish, and it is thanks to the commitment of the Leaders that provide a fulfilling programme that is enjoyed by all.
This year saw the launch of the Squirrels within our group and this has been a huge success – There is a report included in this pack with the Squirrel specifics but it is a huge success and something we are very proud of.
Much of the focus of the Chair has been the transition to a Trustee Board and separate operations from governance and compliance. This has been achieved and as we head into the months ahead, we will be actively recruiting for more trustees and specifically for young trustees (aged 18-24) to join the board.
There is the beginnings of a comprehensive risk register which we will continue to work on and expand. Review of this will be much of what the new trustee board focuses on, as well as ensuring financial security and monitoring other governance and compliance issues.
While we transition, Uniformed leaders, fundraising and Hall management will continue to have meetings using a similar format to the exec committee ones of the past this gives a good framework to separate out the governance issues from operational decision making.
The Trustee board and the operational teams will work closely together as we embark into the new world.
We are always looking for new volunteers and being a Trustee is just one of the ways you can help, if you are interested in being a Trustee, please contact me on the email address at the top of this section and I can talk you through what is involved.
There are lots of ways you can get more involved with Scouts as a parent, a carer or a family member. From helping out occasionally on a parent/carer rota or playing a vital role behind the scenes, to stepping up as a regular volunteer, our opportunities are as varied as you.
We’re talking tidy uppers and tea makers, session planners and fire builders, fundraisers and treasurers, and all-round team players to support our young people.
The good news is that you shape what you do and the time you have to give. Scouts happens when a lot of us give a little (and no, you don’t have to be a Scout or outdoors expert to volunteer).
What to expect
-
A warm welcome
-
Flexibility to get involved in a way that works for you
-
Easy access to training and resources online
-
Friendly ongoing support from local volunteers
-
No two weeks are the same, but the impact you make is always great.
-
Make a real difference, speak to me or any other Leader and volunteer today.

And so in summary the 3[rd] Bramshill Scout Group exists because of the time that the leaders and volunteers give. They do not get paid for their time and most of them continue on to support long after their children pass through the organisation. We continue to need more parent helpers. If you are able to spare a few evenings over the year, please let your leader know. Your help in assisting at even a few sessions would be much appreciated. It might even make the difference between an evening being able to go ahead or not.
In addition, fundraising efforts, which help subside the activities we do, depends on the support we receive from you. An hour’s support makes a massive difference. Please, please think about helping us to provide your children with the best possible experience.
Appointments and resignations
Claire Baker, has resigned after almost 10 years as our group Treasurer. Claire has done a wonderful job and will be missed as a Trustee but although stepping down from the Treasurer role, Claire has kindly said that she will be around to offer her full support during her handover and of course will still be volunteering for the group when possible.
Alison Slater is also steeping down as a Trustee to enable her focus more on our young people. Alison also has a role as a Sectional Assistant Cubs and will remain actively involved in the groups two Cub Packs, planning, helping at camp, fundraising and general volunteering. Alison also is a great help at liaising with other organizations.
David Guillaume has resigned as Trustee due to pressure of work. David has been our secretary superbly taking down our minutes. David will continue to be involved as he still has children within our Group giving his time to helping with our fundraising and other volunteering opportunities.
James White I am delighted to say will take on the appointed of Treasurer. He is a much-valued member of the volunteering team, our Webmaster and gives up much of his time to fundraising for the group. James is also a member of the Bramshill District Recruitment Team designing and producing recruitment cards first used at Yateley May Fayre 2024.
Uniformed leaders are not ex-officio members to the Trustee board and so they will concentrate on what they do best and that is the running of the group and the operational decision making.
The following uniformed members will no longer be Trustees under the new scheme but will be instrumental in the running of their sections and/or the group as a whole;
Chris Cole, Julie Phillips-Stafford, Paul Ruddick and Alastair Swaffer
Thank you very much for all the hard work that you have put into being a Trustee and look forward to splitting out the current Trustee responsibilities into operational leadership.
Thank you

Treasurer Report
Claire Baker
This report accompanies the Accounts statement.
Treasurer’s Report for AGM – 15th May 2024
The Accounts for the financial year 1st February 2023 to 31st January 2024 have been audited by an Independent Examiner of Accounts, as required by the Scout Association and the Charity Commission. The accounts were Approved by the Group Executive Committee on 4th March 2024 and are now presented for Adoption by the 3rd Bramshill Group Scout Council at the AGM. INCOME Our INCOME was £47,109 (£35,688 the previous year). This includes: £6,990 from our Hall users and Lettings. £3,893 retained from Subs. £4,642 raised at the May Fair and Christmas Market £3,623 raised from selling Christmas Trees £2,296 raised from other sources, e.g. the Easy Fundraising portal, Hart Lottery, Gig on the Green, Fireworks Catering and Road Races £5,159 of Gift Aid (three years claimed) £400 of Grants towards the setup of Squirrels £592 Savings Account Interest
Income was considerably higher than last year. Some reasons for this are: Fundraising efforts raised £3,198 more than last year No Gift Aid was claimed the previous year. Donations for Hall rentals rose by £1,594.
Note: The Statement of Receipts and payments shows that there is a decrease of £1,579 in Subs collected compared to last year. This is because the Subs payments for Spring Term 2024 did not reach the bank account in time for the end of the financial year as they usually do. They will therefore show in next year’s accounts.

3[rd] Bramshill Hall Manager Report 2023-2024
Charlotte Buck
The 3rd Bramshill Scout Hall is a hive of activity, serving a wide range of community groups and individuals.
Hall Usage:
3rd Bramshill: Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts hold their meetings in the hall throughout weekday afternoons and evenings
Youth Organisations: Explorer Scouts Yateley, Ist Yateley Rainbows and 7th Yateley Brownies also hold their meetings throughout weekday afternoons and evenings.
Community Groups: TEDS dance school, Gateway Fellowship, Little Gems Pre-school and a play group all use the hall space for learning and recreation.
Public Hire: Weekdays and weekend evenings, the hall is available for private events and meetings. Last year, it played host to quiz nights, children's parties and family gatherings.
Polling Station: The Hall is now used by Hart District Council as a polling station for elections.
Hall booking activity has maintained consistency with the previous year with a slight increase to regular bookings. We receive frequent inquiries for weekday evenings and weekend mornings, however, these times are already reserved for 3rd Bramshill activities and our established user groups.
Ongoing Improvements:
Enhanced Facilities: We're committed to providing the best possible space for our users. Upgrades to the lodge continue with plans to modernise the entrance hall and kitchen facilities. Additionally, new external doors are being installed.
Improved Acoustics: Phase one of our project to improve the main hall's acoustics is complete, ensuring a more comfortable environment for everyone.
Outdoor Space: The temporary fenced area behind the lodge continues to be a valuable asset, offering additional space during summer and winter months. The shelter has proved to be invaluable as it provides welcome shade during the summer and protection from the elements all year round.

Group Scout Leader (GSL) Report 2023 – 2024 Ray Bunce
Firstly, thank you all for joining us this evening and taking this opportunity to meet our Trustees, Leaders and other Members of the 3rd Bramshill Scout Group and to find out a little about Scouting. The formal part of this evening is the Annual General Meeting of the Group Council. This is the electoral body which manages the Group’s affairs and raises funds to support the Scouting activities of our Group. Without them any group fails to function.
The Section Leaders’ main function is to run the Scouting programme for the Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts and we are always pleased to receive offers of help.
The AGM, however, is not your only opportunity to meet the Section Leaders and Members as you are more than welcome to come along to any of our meetings and witness first-hand the activities your sons or daughters are involved in. You never know you might enjoy it yourself! No matter what your background or experience is your time and skills help young people gain skills for life. By working together, and living our values of integrity, respect, care, belief and cooperation, our aim is to have a positive, safe and rewarding experience as volunteers for a movement we truly believe in.
On our census return on the 21[st] January this year I recorded 148 youths on our books which is an additional 30 youths from last year. I am pleased to say a 71% to 29% male to female split so almost 30% of our youth members are girls. I would say that is brilliant considering you have Guides, Brownies and Rainbows in Yateley who have no male members.
Scouting does remain healthy and to keep up with the demand we have opened a new Squirrel Drey (4 to 6 year olds) after half term in October last year. So that’s a full house now of sections with 3 Beaver Colonies, 2 Cub Packs and 1 Scout Troop. However with a Group of our size come new challenges including recruiting new leaders. If you would like to help or become a leader, please speak to me or any other leader. With having 2 Cub Packs there is the potential that a large number of Cubs will move onto our single Scout Troop. There is no limit set by the Scout Association on Troop size but there is however a practical limit where we can deliver and sustain a quality programme.
Sam Johnson runs our newly formed Squirrel Drey with Nicole Johnson as an Assistant Beaver Scout Leader and Carolyn Gardner as a Sectional Assistant (Squirrels). Help at Squirrels is also provided by Chris Cole (Baggy), Rebecca Cole (Haiti) and Julie PhillipsStafford (Mole) who all have roles elsewhere in the Group.
Our three Beaver Colonies (2 on Tuesday and 1 on Wednesday) are run by Julie PhillipsStafford (Mole), Paul Woodford (Squirrel) and Wayne Hooper (Falcon). On Tuesday for the Forest Colony, Julie (Mole) is assisted by Paul (Squirrel), James (Wolf) and Emma (Hedgehog). Squirrel runs the other Tuesday Colony; Copse and he is assisted by Mole, Wolf and Hedgehog. Our Wednesday Colony, Woodlands is run by Wayne Hooper (Falcon) and he is assisted by Mole and Jude as a Sectional assistant.
Akela Ian runs the Tuesday Cub Pack with the support of the Tuesday Cub Scout Leaders Verity Ross and Adam Buttery, and Sectional Assistants Kirsty Small and Claire Davies.
Akela Holly now runs our Thursday Pack after Nick left us last year to get married and move away. Holly is assisted on a regular weekly basis by Rob Joyner and Alison Slater as

Sectional Assistants with additional help being provided by Richard and Paul and Sam from Scouts.
Help at Cubs is also provided by Chris Cole (Baggy) in his role as AGSL(Cubs)
So at the Scout Troop we have Paul Ruddick as our Scout Leader fondly known as Skip. Help at Scouts is provided by Alastair Swaffer in his role as AGSL (Scouts), Chris Mead and Sam Puttock as Assistant Scout Leaders. We also have Ian Bateman, James Easty and Jim Blackmore as Sectional Assistants (Scouts) helping at Scouts.
I would like to thank them all on your behalf for all their efforts particularly as they have had to undergo training themselves. It goes without saying that they are all much valued members of the teams and as volunteers in Scouts, we’re proud to help young people step up, speak up, dream big and gain the skills they need for life. Thanks to them our young people find their place in the world, learn to believe in themselves and make a difference to their communities and society.
2024 brings new challenges for us all in Scouting as we are about to embark on a Transformation journey. The Scout Association vision for Transformation is:
We want to make volunteering with Scouts easier and more fun… …so that we can attract more volunteers and our current volunteers want to stay.
So we are going to be working to transform the volunteer experience at Scouts, making it easier, more fun and more accessible for our existing volunteers, and people who are new to Scouts. A part of this work includes aligning with good practice governance from Charity Regulators by changing the name, purpose, and membership of Trustee Boards (previously Executive Committees).
Last year, April 2023, Executive Committees were renamed to Trustee Boards, and a new Trustee Board purpose was published in our Policy, Organisation, and Rules (POR) to ensure Trustee Boards are focused on governance tasks, rather than operational tasks.
The Scout Association is rolling out these changes to help us give a warmer welcome for everyone, deliver better learning and simplify how we volunteer together. This will all be managed with the support of easy-to-use digital tools. I hope to say more about this at our AGM
Enjoy the evening! Ray Bunce - Group Scout Leader

3[rd] Bramshill Squirrels
Sam Johnson
Well its been a jump into the deep end starting the squirrel drey but we have been full steam ahead. We have been crafting, planting, tasting, playing new games, den building and learning about the natural world.
We are beginning to enjoy the lighter evenings, better weather and the freedom to explore the wilds of the back of the hut that this allows.
We have a full drey of 15 squirrels who are all fully invested and enjoying earning they're 1[st] badges.
We have an action packed year ahead planed including our upcoming day camp. All of our squirrels have come along so much in the short time they be with us and it is hard to believe we will be saying goodbye to our oldest members as they progress up to beavers in September.
None of this would have been possible without the wonderful team that we have Grey squirrel, Rabit, Hathi, Bagheera and the incredible much needed support from Mole and Rikki tikki tavi, as well as the help from our young leaders.
Looking forward to the year ahead and all the adventures it will bring.

3[rd] Bramshill Beavers Forest, Copse & Woodland Colonies Julie Phillips-Stafford
What a year we’ve had! We’ve cycled, made fires and learnt about bugs. We’ve explored, learnt about disabilities and how to stay safe at home and when out. We’ve navigated our way around Yateley and had a go at Yoga and Archery. Visited The Lookout Discovery Centre and St Peter’s church and took 27 Beavers to camp, our biggest number to date! Phew!
We have another exciting year planned including camp in a couple of weeks time. Beaver numbers remain good and we are looking forward to welcoming our first Squirrels moving up to us in September. We are looking forward to the longer days when we can get back outside again and continue to earn lots of badges which I know the parents love sewing on to jumpers!
As always, none of this is possible without the support of my fellow leaders Squirrel, Wolf, Hedgehog, Falcon and Fox and also thanks to the youth who have supported us whilst completing their Duke of Edinburgh’s award.
Looking forward to another exciting year ahead.

Tuesday/Thursday Cub Pack Report – AGM 2024 Adam Buttery
A busy and fun packed year with very positive feedback from the recent Pack Forum. Both Packs continue to evolve with interesting activities and programme ideas coming from both the leaders and the Cubs themselves. Tuesday numbers are around 29 and Thursday are around 26.
Cubs activities included a visit from local Bee Keepers where the Cubs could try the honey, archery practice for the whole of the pack encouraging more to join archery club. Evening trips to the Yateley Fire Station for the fire safety badge and Camberley Mosque for the world faith badge. Badgework including Communicator, Artist, Home Safety, Naturalist, Personal Safety, DIY and Digital Maker. The Cubs had a great time attempting Tie Dye with natural colourants, this was one of the stand out activities and one that will likely be repeated on camp in later years.
Camp in 2023 was at Walter Davies and was themed on the Coronation. It was enjoyed by all who attended. This year we are planning to go to Lyons Copse Scout Camp in Southampton. We are busy putting together the programme for this and currently have about 20 Cubs booked to attend. There is still space to take some more. Activities are likely to include climbing, rafting, indoor caving, obstacle course and of course campfires.
A trip to the Winchester Science Centre took place in October 2023, this was attended by 31 Cubs mainly from the 3[rd] but we also invited Cubs from the 9[th] Bramshill to maximise numbers. Another evening trip around a similar time this year is possible but has yet to be planed.
The pack recently attended an air rifle competition at the 9[th] Bramshill where we came 2[nd] and 3[rd] as well as winning the team award. The pack also recently took part in an Archery competition which they won. With the continued success of these competitions archery and shooting clubs are continuing to take place, we will also shortly be starting up the kayaking club at Hawley Lake.
A big thank you must go to the leadership team; for Tuesday that is Ian (Akela) who continues to give great support to the whole team, Verity (Rama), Kirsty (Jacala), Clare Puttock and Clare Davies and our young leaders Charlotte S, Jonathan and Charlotte C; and for Thursday that is Holly (Akela), Rob (Kaa), Sam (Mang), Gemma (Grey) and young leaders Arwen, Jason, Toby and Harry. We are also always thankful for the ongoing support of Skip and Baggie.
The position of Thursday Akela was filled by Holly (formally Hathi), we are very grateful to her for taking on this position.
If any parent can spare a few hours every few weeks on a Thursday or a Tuesday evening, please speak to one of the Leadership team. It is not only very valuable as we are only able to run if we have enough volunteers, but it is also very rewarding seeing young people learn new skills and experience new things.

Scout Troop Paul Ruddick
The troop is a very healthy size at 40 scouts, 1 young leader and 6 adult volunteers.
Firstly, I would like to say a particular thank you to all the adult volunteers who give up their time to help with the troop without you it would not be possible.
In no order many thanks to – Ian, Jim, James, Alastair, Ray, Chris, Sam.
We have had 2 youth members achieve their Gold Award in 2022-23 and fully expect this trend to continue going forwards.
We have been on camp several times this year – Walter Davies Scout Camp for Summer Camp 2023 where the Scout slept in Hammocks all week. Activities included Bushcraft, Archery, Hiking and Cooking.
We also did an Expedition Challenge Badge Weekend via train and walking to Jordan Hights Campsite in Reigate in October 2023.
Winter Camp for February 2024 this year was at Ferney Crofts Scout Camp, the Scouts battled through a exceptionally muddy camp to visit Beaulieu Moter Museum and lean about WW2 espionage, go up the climbing tower, go Air Rifle Shooting and go on a hike.
We have attended and won Team 1[st] Place at the District Archery Competition this year and came a valiant 2[nd] place in this year’s District Night Escape and the District Air Rifle Shooting Competitions. We also had a team enter the District Rafting Competition which was great fun.
Locally we have been working on environmental projects helping in laying seeds on the local verges in conjunction with a local project.
Some of the highlights of this year’s activities have included carboard box oven cooking, hiking, DIY, games, Tomahawk throwing and of course lots of campfires and marshmallows to mention but a few of the things we have done this year.
We have lots more camps planned for this Summer the Isle of Wight is our next destination in May half term and we have other activities going forward.
As mentioned we have a large Troop we could always use more help to give the Scouts the best experience we can.
Please let me know if you are interested in helping in any way.

3rd Bramshill Air Rifle & Pistol Shooting Club Report 2023-2024
As you will be likely aware our Club now meets in blocks alternating with our archery club at our Lodge on Fridays during term times between 7.30pm and 9pm.
We have a small core of regular younger shooters who continue to improve their skill levels and we are always pleased to welcome new members. The club is open to all Group members and cost £1 per session to cover the consumables.
During the year some of our shooters have entered the District Cub and District Scout Rifle Shooting competitions with much success. Unfortunately for a number of factors we haven't been able to enter our national Scout shooting competition held at Bisley but our expectations must remain high for the future. Hampshire Scouts has an excellent history in the sport and there are number of Hampshire Scouts that shoot nationally.
We are fortunate to have 5 qualified Range Officers/Instructors which enables us to run these sessions and I would like to thank them all for all their efforts, particularly as they have had to undergo training themselves. So that is Ian Puttock, Julie Phillips-Stafford, Paul Ruddick, Verity Ross and myself, Ray Bunce - Group Scout Leader
3[rd] Bramshill Archery Club Report 2023 – 2024
The Archery Club has been running since September 2016.
We currently have six qualified instructors within the Group.
We run on Fridays between 7.30pm and 9pm (sometimes taking a break for our shooting club). Numbers were reasonable last half term and both our Cubs and Scouts did very well in the District Competitions both winning Team First Place.
The sessions allow some time for coaching and an opportunity to improve on technique and scores as well as playing a variety of games including the pizza game, noughts and crosses and the numbers game.
We have also used balloons and playing cards as targets. It has been great to see both the improvement in technique and scores as the weeks go by.
We would like to see a few more regularly attending (it only costs £1 a session).

3[rd] Bramshill Cub & Scout ‘Kayak & Canoe Club’ - AGM Report - April 2024
The 3[rd] Bramshill Scout Group has been members of the Hawley Lake Sail Training Centre for many years and so we were able to offer kayaking on both a Monday and Friday evening from just after Easter last Year until the summer break. We had around 20 young people taking part in both kayaking and canoeing on the Lake and I am pleased to say it was enjoyed by all who took part.
We had both wet and sunny evenings but all I can recall are those beautiful sunsets with their rays dancing over the water.
In order to offer the opportunity of regular kayaking & canoeing to our ever-increasing numbers of Cubs and Scouts, a team of ‘qualified adults’ is needed; without these dedicated Leaders and Parents we could not run the activities. Please do let us know if you can help in any way.
We hope to start the 2024 season immediately after the early May Bank holiday and so we are looking forward to sunny evenings at Hawley.
Thanks must go to the kayak team of James, Ray, Paul, Adrian, Alison and our parent helpers.
