Manor Childcare Centre Management Committee Convenor’s Report 2024

From its foundation, the mission of Manor Childcare Centre has always been to provide affordable and accessible childcare to children from 2¥%2 to 11 years. In 2012 that age range was extended to include all 2 year olds. In September of 2024 we further extended our offer to enable us to take on a small number babies from 9 months. The continuing dedication of the staff, and the leadership offered by Jacqui and Tracy, are to be commended and have enabled us to continue to offer a quality service throughout 2024. The whole area of childcare, and work with children from birth to 11 years, continues to be under almost continuous change. I seem to find myself saying this every year in my Annual Report, and I Say it again in 2024. Government initiatives continue to mean that the way both Pre-School and After School activities are planned and organised are continually changing and developing. This puts additional pressure on the staff, both with the requirement for ongoing training and the necessary follow-on implementation process.

Finally, the Management Committee values input from parents and carers, and our constitution allows for a number of parent and community representatives on the Committee, some of which are currently vacant. If you would be prepared to consider joining the Committee, please speak to Jacqui, Tracy or myself.

The Committee would like to thank you for your continued support over the last year. Thanks should also be expressed to our hosts at Christ Church.

Manager’s Report 2024

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself” John Dewey 1859 — 1952

Spring Term

A very good start to our new year. Extra funding was available in many ways which enabled us to pursue several projects. One of which is our garden area.

We had donations again from a loyal supporter of Easter Eggs for each child. We know that some children would not be receiving any, so it was a nice gesture.

Sam, our Admin worker left us to take on another role in a Senior School. We wish her well. |

The Easter Holidays in our After School Club went well, we took on babies from 9 months old and our spaces were taken up surprisingly quickly. We did not need to advertise, word of mouth worked very well with recommendations being made by our own parents. Thank you.

Summer Term

Wow! We have discovered Temu!! Lots of good quality resources for little money. We have been able to do so much with our funding ;o) Beckie has taken over our Wellcomm Programme, language development for all of our children, and we are now able to get help for those children struggling with speech, language and communication difficulties much more quickly.

Tracy and staff are getting our preschool leaver ready for ‘big school’, exciting times for our 4 year olds. We had a Graduation Party and invited their parents. Teachers from the schools they will be attending also visited to introduce themselves.

Summer Holidays

Bookings for our holidays went very well.

Colleen played a big part in organising our Summer Bookings, and for its smooth running!

One bad ‘payer’ left owing money and we are disappointed that we were unable to follow this up!

Lots of activities and projects took place over the six weeks, the children and staff all enjoyed themselves.

Our Playleader left at the end of the summer and we plan on replacing her in due course.

Autumn Term

We sent Beckie on Tooth cleaning Training! We have joined a programme, All Together Smiling, each child will have a toothbrush and paste, from October we will be teaching children how to brush their teeth properly.

New rugs and cushions for all areas are planned to make the areas comfy, and to reduce the noise level experienced in our large church hall.

A donation to The Childcare Centre on behalf of the late Alistair Beer, through Wallasey Rotary enabled us to take all the children to Acorn Farm in Liverpool, with a visit and present from Father Christmas! A spectacular end to a good year at Manor Childcare Centre!

My thanks go to all my staff for their hard work, dedication and support. Thanks too to lan Smith our Chairman for not giving up on us!

Pre-school Coordinator Report 2024

This was a challenging year for the setting. Some of our older children, who where transitioning to school had additional needs, and needed additional support through funding from The Early Years to provide specialist equipment: i.e. weighted blankets, vibrating cushions, dolls and games. We also needed soft play equipment to help build muscles and strengthen those little legs. These children had visits from Educational Psychologists to assess them for specialist schools, although there were no places available and they went to ‘bases’ attached to schools instead. To obtain this extra funding and support from outside, a lot of paperwork and support was undertaken.

In September ’24, due to additional educational funding we took on babies from 9 months old. Staff undertook extra baby training and safer sleeping guidance.

Using our Pupil Premium money we were able to fund all the children, staff and some parents to a visit to Acorn Farm in Liverpool, and further funding to pay Happy Al’s coach company for making this trip possible. Many of the children had never visited a farm before to see and feed real animals! Plus seeing Father Christmas in his Grotto.

Other themes this year: The Gruffalo, Gruffalo’s Child, That’s my flower (Spring), Easter and many many Mote .............2.c0eee
