The Iruslees of Stockport Pla2a Trust Limited present their report for the year ended 31
August 2025 under the Companies A¢t 2006 and the Ch8ri1ies Act 2011, together with Ihe

Governing document
The charity Is governed by lis Memorandum and Articles of Association adopled on 17
June 1999.
Governing bodies
The Board of TTuslees is responsible for the overall governance of the charity. The
affairs of the charity are administered by a Council of Management, the members of
which occupy Ihe position of directors for the purpose of the Companies Act.

only be appointed afler due consideration is given to eligibility, personal competence

appointment ol persons with experience of theatre and cinem3. A number of the
Iru51ees are members of organi5ations who have an interest in hiring Ihe building or
who have related interests. None of these associated transaction5 have been
infiuence(J by any inlere51s other than the Trust's. They are not material and all such
interests have bèen fully disclosed, where appropriate.
RISK MANAGEMENT
The trustees have identified the major risks facing the Trust as failing lo rneel Ils financial
targets, especially income generation from ticket sales, front of house sales, operational
grants and donalions. The Trust monitors income from all sources. insligales largeled
marketing lo increase awareness and lickel sales. and has been applying for grants from a
diverse and extensive Tar4Je of bolh exisling and polential sources.
The Trust undertakes an annual review of health and safely risks. and has in pla￿ polic￿$ lo
ensijre compliance with best practice. The Iwslees are satisfied that systems are in place lo
mitigate the exposure lo major risks.

Thg Trustees reviewed Ihe Trust's strategy during the year. The key aims are

The trustee5 continued their policy of Carrying on restoration works and are ulilising a survey
of maintenance requiremenls for the next five years undertaken by external consultants
created in 2019.
The theatrical programme. has been a full mixture of variety perforrnances and shows as well
as a substan1181 usè by local comtnunity groups and family entertainment Shows. The film
programme ￿$ being continually developed antl includes National Theatre Encore and Live
presentations and Opera screenings.
FINANCIAL AND OPERATIONAL REVIEW
A summary of the fin8nci81 results for the year can be found in the Statement of Financial
Activities (Page 131.
The total incoming Tesources were £1,633,921 as compared to £1,572,879 in the previous
year. Total resources expended in the period were £1,592,249 as compared to £1.497,660 in
2024. The Calé Reslaufanl ha5 continued to run successfully durin9 the year.

The Plaza has undergone further resloTalive work lo prescriptive standards during the past
twelve months, reflecting the building s original architectural inlenl. The building maintenance
costs for 2025 were £287,054 compared lo £261,989 in 2024. The Plaza undertook capital
expendiluie of £14,370 during the year.
Overall, the Plaza made a surplus of £41,67212024 surplus £75.219). A surplus on the
General Fund of £91,696 was achieved (surplus £118,978 in 20241 and there was a deficit on
the Capital Fund of £48,024 (compared lo a deficit of £47,759 in 20241. A deficit on the
re51ricled fund of £2,00012024 surplu5 £2,000).
The Plaza has received no public body funding during the year.
The Plaza budgeted for 2841301 in 2024} events during the year and achieved 291 1288 in
20241.
Tight control has been maintained on expenditure during the year.. although some staff costs
have increased due lo National Living wage requirements
The Plaza continues to hold cross-communily events including the Festival of Remembrance,
local schools, local operatic groups and dance schools. These events demonstrate our
commitment to community use and we will endeavour lo expand our activities in these areas.
Stockport Plaza Trust conlinues to rely on an eveT-increasing number of volunteers and the
Trust acknowledges their commitment and dedication..

The Projection Team - for the presentation of films and Maintenan￿ of cinema

The Organ Team - for the mainlenance of the Compton Organ.

RESERVES POLICY

external consultanl's report selling out a five year plan for rnainlenance aclivilies.

ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Company $tstus
Stockport Plaza Trust is a private company limited by guaranlee. The Director5 of Ihe company are
the Trustees named on page 2. In Ihe event of the company being wound up. the liability in respect
of the guarantee is limited lo £1 per member of the company
The registered office is The Plaza. Mersey Square. Slockporl. Cheshire, SK1 1 SP.
1.1 Accounting convention
These accounts have been prepared in accordance with FRS 102"The Financial Reporting
Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland I'FRS 102,1, 'Ac¢ounting and Reporting by
Charities" the Statement ol Recornmended Pra¢ti¢e for charities applying FRS 102, the Companies
Acl 2006 and UK Generally Accepled Accounting Practice as it applies from 1 January 2015. The
Charity is a Public Benefit Enlily as defined by FRS 102.
The accounts are prepared in sterling. which is the functional ¢urrency of the company. Monetary
amounts in these financial slalemenls are rounded lo the nearest £.
The accounts have been prepared undei the historical cost convention. The principal accounting
polic￿5 adopted are sel out below
1.2 Going concem
At the time of approving the accounts, the trustees have a reasonable expectation that the charity
has adequate resources lo continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the
trustees continue lo adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the accounts.
1.3 Charitable funds
Unreslrscted lunds are available for use al the discretlDn ol the trustees in furtherance ol their
charitable objectives unless the funds have been desi9naled for other tkurposes.
Reslricted funds are subjecl to specific condition5 by donors as to how they may be used. The
PUTpcises and uses of the reslricled funds are set out in the notes to the accounts.
Free reseNes are available for use al the discretion of the Trustees in pursuit of the general
objectives of Ihe charity.
1.4 In¢oming resourc
Income is recognised when the charity is legally enlilled lo il after any performance conditions have
been mel. the amounts can be measured reliably and il is probable that income will be re￿Ived.
Cash donations are recognised on receipt. Olh&r donations are recognise(l once the charity has
been notified of the donation, unless performance conditions require deferral of Ihe amount.
Income lax re¢overable in relation Icty éonalions received under Grft Aid or deeds ol Covenant is
recognised al the time of the donation
Leg8cies are recognised on receipl or olhewise il the charity has been nolrfied ol an impending
dislribulion. the amount is known, and re¢eipl is expecled. 11 the arnounl is not known. the legacy is

Turnover is measured al the lair value of the consideration received or receivable and represents
amounts receivable for goods and services provided in the normal ci)urse ol business, nel of
discounts, VAT and other sales related taxes.
1.5 Resources expended
All expenditure is a￿o￿nIed lor on èn accruals basis and has been included under expenses
categories that aggregate all c051s lor allocation to activities. Where costs cannot be diTectly
allribuled lo particular activities they have been allocated on a basis consislent with the ijse of the
resources.
Support cosls are those costs incurred (Jireclly in SUPPOfl ol expenditure on the objects of the
company. Governance costs are those incurred in connection with adminislr8lion of the company
and compliance with constilulional and stslulory requirements.
1.6 Depr￿lation
Depreciation is provided lo wri(e off the cost, less estimated residual values, of all fixed assets.
This is on a slr8ighl line basis over the expected useful lives of ihe assets al the following annual
rates..
Freehold property & theatre improvements- straight line
Furniture, fixtures & fillings - 10'/o straight line
All other assets- 200/0 51raight line
1.7 Interest recelvable
Inveslmer51 Income is accounted for in the period in which the charity is enlitled lo receipt. Interest
is shown 39 gross Interest, as the charity is exempt from corporation tax.
1.8 Deferred income
The charity defers incorne re￿iVed on liGkel sales for shows and events until the date the show or
event has taken place. The charity is not enlitled lo the income until il has been confirmed that the
show or event has taken place. Shows and evenis can be cancelled and any ticket sale income
would have lo bè refunded to the customer.
1.9 Financial In$truments
The charity has elected lo apply the provisions of Section 11 'Basic Finanoal Instruments. and Section
12 '0theT Inslrutn8nls Issues, of FRS 102 to all ol its financial instruments.
Financial instrurnent5 are recognised in the charity's balance sheet when the charity becomes party lo
the contractual provisions of the instrument.
Financial assets and Iiabililies are offset, with the net amounts presented in the financial statements,
when there is a legally enforceable right to sel off the rècognisÈd amounts and there 15 an iniention to
sett¢e on a nel basis or lo realise the asset and sellle the liability simultaneously.
Basffc financlal ass•is
Basic financial assets. which include debtors 8nd cash and bank balances. are initially measured at
transaction p￿ce including transaction costs and are subsequently carried al amortised cost vsing the
eNÈcb"vè interest method unless the arrangement conslitules a financing tran53cIIDn. ￿ere Ihe
transaction is meaSU￿d at the present value of the futLJre receipts discounted al a rnarket rale of

1.10 Employee benefit5
The Cost of any unused holiday entillemenl is recognised in Ihe period in which the employee's services
are received.
Termination benefits are recognised immediately as an expense when the charity is demonstrably
committed to temiinale the employment ol an employeè or lo provide terrnination bentsfils.
1.11 Taxation
The company is registered as a Charitable Trijsl and is therefore exempl from corporation lax, due
to an annual exemption under sections 466 to 493 of the Corporation Tax Act 2010
2 Critlcal accountlng ostlmate$ and Judggments
In the applicatior) of the charity's accounting poliaes, Ihe trustees are required to mak¢ judgernents,
e5timate5 and assumptions about the carrying amount ol assets and liabilities that are not fead*ly
pparent Irorn olher sources. The eslimales and assoaaled assumptions are based on historieal
experience and olher factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual ¢èsulls may difler from these
estimates.
The eslimates and undedying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounling
eslimates are recognised in the period in which the eslimate 15 revised where the revision affects only
that penod, or in the perKJd of the rèvision 8nd luture periods where the revi510n affect5 both cUr￿n1 and
futu￿ periods.
