This has been a year which has been difficu for everyone due to the pandemic. however through the help and support of various Govemment schemes and inrtiab.ves during these challenging times, the aSSon has continued to deliver a mLth-valued Serv1 to the local communty. I must pay homage to Barry Doughty our lonndE[¥j Chair. who sto(xl down from this position as Chair at the erKI of September 2021 though he continues to be a Trustee. Everybody knows that Bary has been the dtr4Éng force at the DCA Hts hard Vrk over a period of 13 years has resulted in a facilty which we all know ts highly apprec5ated and very well used. S took over as Chair, following an 'apprenticeship' peri(Kl and I can vouch that Barry has left a huge VOKI on the Board of Trustees and of course in the l¢)cal communty. Bary and his wrfe Eileen have relocated to SoLrth Wales and at a small gathering, we had the opportunty to thank both for their help. supp)rt and eoMmrtnt to the DCA before they left. We all wsh them a happy 2nd relaxed rets"remenL We also said 'happy retirement, to our longstanding Centr8 Manager, Patricia Imlson, who retired at the end of jur 2021. Very early on in the pandemic we reviewed the procedures and processes to ensure that the buikling is as sate as possible for all user5. We were honoured to receive a visit from the Huh SherÈff of Cumbria - David Beeby - and his partner Soo on the 26th May 2021. After a tour of the ntre, Trustees provided infonnation on the projects housed trn the ntre. arKI in youth provision being carrted out through the 'Dalton Youthy. prw. A buffet lunch was served before DavKt and Soo left their next appointment in Millom. They were both very impressed wrth the se1 being wovided at the ntre. especially the youth provision where demand has increased recently and we now have a 'juniof and a 'senior group,. On the 21 Marth this year, we were invited to attend an aftemoon tea at Rose Castle to recerve recogniti'on from the Htgh SherTff for the work, and in particular the youth work that is camed out in the centre A framed certFfiite is on display at the centre and the financial award leiVed in the next financial year of £500.1)O will be used towards the work we do. Our Trustees continue to offer great support to the runntng arKI the governan of the association. Our morrthty board meetings. previously on Zoom, but now back to fatrface meetings at the centre are proadive. We said goodbye to Deborah Brtravn. who was one of our l(Ingstanding Trustees. and stepped down from the board. due to heavy work commitments. We welcx)med John MGGill to the board in Juty 2021 and his substantial expellen in the voluntary sector and his knry will add to the skill base of the Board. I also want to express my sinre thanks to all the Trustees for their commitment, but a special thank you must go to lan Maddox and Dave Ward for their ongoing help and support with maintenance tasks. The VIeW and upjating of Ouf policies and procedures is cotrtinuous arKI in the last 12 months we have added a new Bribery. Wnistle Bloing and Reserve policies. Furthemore, the websrte was revivwed, refre$ld and a new electronic booking System has been developed ensuring that the managing of bookirg events is easy to do. Our Tr&2surer Brian Ryninks continues to ensure that the association remains financially healthy. Brian is also instrumental in supping the Trustees as the DCA complies with the requirements to be a charitable organisation. Cumbria County Council renewed the library lease and this much needed facilty W711 continue to provide a Ell-USed service from the centre. Imien it comes to our (xbon footfxint. ts centre has been uttlising the tHfftS of the solar panels over the last number of years. In the last year more energy 5ensth.ve lights have been installed, the courtyard r1Ved a new awning. which enhances the use of this outdoor space by giving it shading in the summer months, whitst also providing some shelter rf the area is used when Ft 15 rainirrfJ. New dr$ have been fftted to the car park and the courtyard ext and a new storeroom facalty was created, through the support of Cumbna County Council for Family Action. We also replaced the flat roof above the Cadet's storeroom and the DCA boiler house and carrted out resvjual repairs to tt)e roof where there was irgress of water. A néw booklet was commissioned - Refledions of Datt( - as a follow up to the 'From Drill Hall to Centre for All. publication. This publication was launched on the 22tw& July 2022. The booklet, collated and Mffitten by one of our Ttustees. Ron Creer, is an oral record. as Y11 as Wren account of a number of selected fpsidents to refieci upon their tirne in Dalton. their links to the ntre. arKI their contributsons to the Town over the year5. Our webstte arKI Facebook pages are well used and anyone looking at our Calendar on the website cannot help but be amazed at the numLEr of activttses taking pla each week. To condude, despite the d)allenges faced due to COVID. the Centre continuas to thrive. We as TNstees are very grateful for the support We have received from Govemment, Local Govemment, Charrlable organisations and Trusts and of course from the local communty. We have a great partnership %*ith Dafton T(Y•vn Council vjho are very supportive and my sinre thanks to Fiona for all their help. What does the future hold? Well. we are keen to reduce our carbon emissions and work towards the Govemmenys net zero challenge. To that effect, we have receNed support for an intemship from Lancaster Universty's NW programme and obtained the services of Msc Environmental student with a keen interest in zero waste and environmental sustainabilrty. The intemship in new financial year will support us to research, evaluate and benchmark the Trent carbon footprint of the community centre arKI start th8 process of putting in place a plan which would support carton reductions. We continue to ensure the faciltlies are available. have easy aCss, are fft for Pufpose and provides a high standard of Service, vthith is befith'ng a community venue where all ages are weleome. Financial Review The year ended 31 March 2022 saw a continued improvement in the fin6ncial position / strength of the Dalton Communty Association IDCAI wtth Income exceeding Expendtture by £14,3681£21,7941 to incTEase the accumulated surplus from £37,503 to £51.873. Total income wa5 £67.974 {£64,4081 and total costs wefe £53.fffi1£42,6141. Unrestricted Charity Income totalled £52.255 that was lower than the £56.268 of the prior year mainly due to just £9.082 IE37ffin of Covid 19 related grant iome but offset by the rentsl income release from the ending of the first ase ofthe library in August 2021. Unrestrtcted Chartty Expenditure of £37.877 was fflarginally higher than the £34,474 in the prnr year mainly due to the effect of sundry repairs fof example on the roof. Restritted Charity lftcome / Expenditure was slightly hw8her at £15.719 {£8,140) that increased gwen the re-openin8 of the ntre and projects r&commencing Bank balances as at the yearend decreased slightly in total compared to the ptioryear end with Restricted Funds of £11.877 {£20.7521 and Unresiricted Funds of £48.070 {£45,4431. The building was valued in the current year as at 28 January 2022 at £375.(KX). The last valuation was £375.(KX) as at 23 March 2019 compared to the prevtous valuation of £345,LKKI as at 28 February 2018.
