CHAIRMAN'S REPORT- AGM FEBRUARY 2025
Another year has gone by and l am standing here agatn giving my Chairman's Report for
2024 to you.
We have had another successful year and our membership is now 479 and growing. We are
getting new members every month and lots of enquiries. This is keeping our membership
secretary John Fulford very busy and also John Faulkner our Deputy Treasurer.
One of our big highlights this year is the creation of our new website by Gwen Davies our
computer wizard. She has spent days and hours making sure everything is accurate and
more attractive to the users. This will be a big asset to the growth of the group. We find
that the new members are more technical savvy and expect to have information at their
fingertips. Gwen continually updates everything and also she is adding new information
when she receives it. Please send Gwen any information you think our members would
benefit from.
We had a very successful U3A holiday in May 2024, organised by our very own travel agent
Sue, to Llandudno with Alfa Travel. What made it more enjoyable was that we had the
coach totally to ourselves and could decide what we wanted to do. The scenery was
spectacular and the company even better. Many happy memories were made.
We also had a trÈp to Strarford in June organised by Sylvia including a very informative tour
of Shakespeare's school. The rest of the day was spent exploring Strafford and some of us
visited the butterfly farm. It started a bit damp but by the end of the day the sun had come
out. Sylvia also organÉsed, later in the year, a skittles night at Bolehall Manor which included
a fish and chip supper. Everybody said how much they enjoyed the night. Thank you Sylvia.
The Gardening Appreciation group worked hard as usual and booked and organised some
interesting garden trips. These included Botanical Gardens, beautiful Hidcote Gardens,
Baddesley Clinton House and gardens and the atmospheric Batsford Arboretum. They
finished the year with a Xmas lunch at the Castle Hotel including the Light Exercise Group,
Friday Lunch group, Sunday lunch group and the Ambling Group. Sue and Sue you excelled
yourselves.
I would like to thank all the Group Leaders for their continued hard work. They are the
backbone of this group and it wouldn't be so successful without them. The new Group
Leader for the Light Exercise Group, taking the reins from Pam, is Lisbeth. Thank you Pam for
doing such a splendid job, quietly and efficiently, for a number of years.

The U3A choir has had a very busy year with a number of concerts including the cheese and
wine concert at Elford Church. They finished the year at, the extremely cold St Editha's
Church, with the U3A Ukulele Group. How they managed to sing and play their instruments
I wi11 never know. Even with the cold it was well attended and extremely enjoyable. Well
done Choir.
Last year we lost some very close friends of the group and I would like to send mv
condolences to the family and friends of those members. One of those members was Judy
Nestor a past Chairman and Speaker Secretary. She devoted a lot of her time to this group
and was also involved in many other groups in the Tamworth area. She was always the first
to volunteer if she could and I miss her on the stage with me, correcting my mistakes with
her lovely smile! !!
The committee members work extremely hard on your behalf to make this a safe and
enjoyable space to be involved and we would always welcome any feedback from you to
make it even better. Thank you committee members for doing a fantastic job.
If you know of any member who is having a hard time health wise or personal and would
appreciate a card to cheer them up please get in touch with our Welfare Officer Eileen. She
will be very happy to send them an appropriate card. She is very good and seems to know
the right thing to say.
The Assembly Rooms staff have always made us welcome and we are very grateful to be able
to use this beautiful building for our monthly meetings. Thank you to the technical team and
front house staff.
I would like to end my Chairman's Report for 2024 with thanking you all here today for
letting me be Chairman for the past very busy year.
