## **Pastor’s Report**

## I will Rejoice

## Habakkuk 3:17-18

_‘Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord,I will be joyful in God my Saviour .’_

I think we will all agree that since March 2020 we have all had an incredibly difficult journey and we have all been affected by the events surrounding Covid 19. We have seen those who have been taken home to the Lord, those who now have long term illnesses they did not have before and our world has changed forever. Despite all that Pastor Angela and I want to put on record that we have seen the goodness of God in difficult times and today we choose to say thank you to God and to continue to pray for all the needs that are currently challenging us as a church.

2019 was a fairly normal year with the usual things taking place. Youth and children’s activities included Family Fun Day, Soul Survivor, Holiday Club, Fireworks Night and our Christmas Services. Not to mention our Life Ladies, Men of Life and Bright Hour with their usual meetings and outings. However 2020 was to see all of that changed.

It all started out a fairly normal year with our 3 week Daniel Fast in January however little did we know that by the end of March the government was going to be asking all of us to stay home for 3 weeks. The problem was that it did not end within 3 weeks, it went on and on, month, after month, after month.

We started to do Online Services initially from our home and then as restrictions eased pre- recorded from the church. We discovered zoom and soon a new way of interacting had begun. We transitioned to Online Services at the weekend and zoom during the week. During this time many of our congregation started and have continued to give online and for that we are very grateful.

By September we were thinking of gathering together again but with the restrictions the layout of the church had to be significantly altered and what is a 300 seater hall suddenly became only able to house around 65 people socially distanced.

In October we opened up the church for our Bright Hour and anyone who was available on Wednesday Afternoons to come and view the Sunday Online Service.

We were aware that the majority of them did not have access to the online viewing. Later that month we opened up Sundays to watch together our Pre-recorded video. We were just about to start our Services live when the 2nd lockdown came. After this was over we did start our live services and had our socially distanced shorter Carol Service.

During the year we did try to keep in contact with everyone, with phone calls and doorstep visits throughout the year. We want to put on record the amazing work that Dorcas has and continues to do not just in the office but in a very practical way of helping those who were unable to get out, getting their shopping and so much more.

As in previous years at Christmas we were able to pass on hampers to the Women’s Refuge and collect for the shoebox appeal although we were unable to fill them ourselves.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us in any way through this difficult time. We would finally like to thank all of our retiring stewards who have served us faithfully over the years. Trevor Parker the longest serving, John Harper, Tony Harmer and Errol Mason, may God bless them for their faithful service.

## 2 Corinthians 4:15

_‘All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God_ ‘.’

Stay blessed
