Review 2023124
As the flnancial year of 2023-2024 draws to a close, it is always good to reflect on the previous year, the ups, the downs
and everythlng else in between.
It is fair to say that the last year has not been wilhout its challenges for the third sector organisalions and to every single
community member and seNice user that we support. l think its also ok to say that austerity measures are hawng a
massive impact on exploitatlon and the groomlng prO￿$s, and this can also be reflected withln Income streams and
avallable funding also for charities.
The world of exploitation is complex and sornetimes it is easy to sayi why are we doing thi5 work? What difference are
we making? Is it all worth it? The one thing l am assured of is our direct work, support and awareness raising of
groomingi is certainly having an on the ground impact and you can see that the data and results speak for themselvos.
Once again, I need to give full credlt to the passionate and dedicated team we have created at Street Teams, that thelr
tireless pursuit for justice and to make chlldren and young people safe, never, ever wavers.
It is easy In thls field to always see the deprawty within the world and the sick nature of exploitatlon and its long-term
effects on children and families, but the team strive on with as much determination as ever before. We really are
fortunate and humbled to have the slaff team that we do. Without them, things could look a lot worse.
Exploitation is not linear, and groomers will ever change their methods to seek out their victims, this Is also somethlng
that we are at the fowefront of recoonising due to our on the ground insight. Sextortion, Bank account fraud, money
launderlng hag become somethlng we have rapidly had to respond to Ihis year and sadly, due to economy issues, will
continue to increase.
We pride ourselves at being at the forefront of preventin9 exploitation and 5UPPOrting our cases that have been abused
in this way, and we must be clear, this is abuse. It also allows us to realise that exploitation wlll contlnue to change as
more vulnerabilibes grow and opportunities in life decrease.
Looking forward, we know we still have a lot of work to do but are confident that every child and family that is referred
to us, will have the best chance of recovery because of our tenaclous team.
Funding priorities are changing, finances are being squeezed, requirements of funders alter, but we remaln steadfast In
our response and will continue to push on, no matter what the charity world throw5 at us. Changes may iieed to be
made to counter act the previous, but these will be made with integrity, experience, realism, but most of all heart for the
children of Walsall,
Helen Matthews
CEO
Recognition, Appreciatlon, In Kind and Volunteers
The trustees are Indebted to the various funding organisations, statutory bodies and various 5UPPOrters as listed In the
appendices for the many ways they make this essenLial work a possibility. WiLhout their vision many lives would be faced
with a different and more difficult future.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial posltion
Total income for the year was £573,771 which is a decrease from the previous year (2023: £699,642) and total
expenditure was £521,471 which is an increase from the previous year (2023: £501,523), resulting in a surplus of
£52,300 (2023: £198,119).
The financial results have been significantly affected thls year by the reduced level of Income from the Walsall Care
contract. In addiuon the current economic climate is having a negative impact on costs.
ThÉ risks that the charity sector is facing are becoming increasingly challenging and are changing in nature and severity
as the external environment evofves. The prinapal risks and uncertainties facing the charity Include:
Insufficient income and reserves for the charity moving fO￿ard to achieve its strategic objectives and maintaln Its
operations.
We manage these risks by engaging in regular discussions with our senior management and board of directors to enable
us to monitor the significant risks and to allow us to make informed decisions and take timely action. We continue to
make the most of opportunitses and develop them with the confidence of any risks being managed. This allows us to
think forward and continue to plan strategically to our aims are achieved more Suc￿sSfUllY.
The factors most likely to affect future financial performance are the continuation of funding and the level of demand for
setvice5, which will have an impact on costs.
Reserves policy
During the year, Ihe Trustees have reviewed their reserves policy as follows..
Reserves are malnlained at a level which ensures that at least 3-6 rnonths of the organization's core acts'vity could
contlnue during a period of unforeseen difficulty.
Total funds at 31 March 2024 were £602,464. Of this £121,827 was restricte(I, and £2,667 was the carrying value of
unrestricted fixed assels. So the reseryes available to Street Teams at the year end were £477,970, 92Vo of currenl total
expenditure. ReseNes would be used to cover any unforeseen financial difficulties that might otherwlse Impact adversely
on the organiiation's charitable activities, Going forward, reseNes may be used to fund employee costs. The level of
reserves Is acceptable to the trustees.
