Introductlon and Hlghllghts
Tha Movement Centra for Targeted Tralning (which operates under its worklng name The Movement Cenlrel is
a UK charity and specialist treatment centre for chlldren dedicated to sUPPOrting children and their families
living with movement disabiliti8s. We provide a specialsi therapy eall&l Targeted Training to help chiklren gain
movement control. Our vision is that all chlldren who have a disability affecting thelr moveTnent control are able
to reach their full potentlal. Our mlssion is to maximise Iho potential of children's movemenl control through
Targeted Training therapy.
Targeted Tralntro has b68n d8veloped to holp children with movement disabilities gain control of their
movement, It helps enable thildren to gain new 8kdl8 and indeperKlence, whlth Can hgve a huge Impact on
their Ilves. It can also make a big differencè to tha Ilves ol thelr famlly and frfends. Through a course of
Targetod Trainlng therapy chlldren can galn head ￿ntrOl. so th8y can Int•ract wth their family; it can help
chlldr8n dèvelop the skllls to 81t unaided, so that they can play vrith thelr frlends. For ¥ome children li ¢an
enabt• them to walK whlth means Ihey can be far rrnre independenL
W8 vrnlcome any family to come to The Movement Centre who may b8nefil. Diagnoses Includ8. bui are not
limited ta.. Cerebral palsy, Global Developmenlal Delay.. Genetic Disord8rs,'

Chlldhood strokes. Undiagnosed,. Syndromè wSthout a name (SWAN).
Following the de￿slon to provide Targeted TrainiThJ therapy free of Charge in October 2022. 2023 6aw a
slgnlficant incre8se irs numbers of patients soeklng assessment for treatment.
We are now runnlng at clinical Capa￿ty, wilh 44 patlgnts currently in activa treatment, and have a waitiTVJ list of
families looking for assessment and treatment.
Alms for 2024 inolude increasing physloth8rapy (zpacity either on an ad hoc bas15, using physiotheraplsts who
has worked at the Movement Centre previously and have kn(Iwiedge of providing Targeted Tralnlng, but also
lookirwj at offertng a traininglapprentice position for a new physiotherapisL
During the current year we have had 77 adive (x)ursos of treatment, with 66 new refe￿al¥ and 48 courses of
treatment commenced. 100¥o of these were furnded by The Movement Centre.
To the end of 2023. we have provided around 1.CiIO courses of Targeted Training therapy to help 673 thildren
to gah Independen￿ and a better quallty of Ilfe through increased movement control - the number of Ghildren
gradua15y Increased through the yeaT as families became less anxious post covid and treatment costs wer8
reduced then being completely removed. As well as a direct benefit to the Ghlld, Targeted Training can hav6 a
huge impacl on family lrfe.
We are delighted lo report continuing good prows lovrdrds our obieciives in 2023. Wa ar& pleased to report a
number of highlights from the year. In 2023 we have:

FUNCTIONAL OUTCOME CHANGES WITH TARGETED TFiAINING
Over the last fourteen years. The Movement C8ntre has a standardised FunGbon Measure (Gross Motor
FUn{￿On Measure IGMFM-66-IS} ). Thls m8asures thildren's abiliti8s InI￿ng, g￿ting, crawling, standing and
walkinglrunning. It 15 most appropriate to revtew these results in relation to the l&vel of Severity of disability of
each child and thus a standardised Ability Scale has been used {Gross Molor Function Classification System
(GMFCSF)- This classifies the severty of cerebral palsy into five groups where Level I represents children who
walk without restrictions through Level V where self-mobility is severely limited even wlth th8 use of a55iStive
technology. The results glven are the average chang8s achievgd during a single intervention pericKI lusualty 12
