The trustees : eet Bees ”sec : ee Statement of Recommended Practice applicable Republic counts in accordance with the inancial Reportin Standard applicable ; of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective | January 2019), a si ill OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES Objectives and aims To relieve persons who have learning difficulties, mental health problems, physical disabilities, visual or sensory Impairment who may be in need ofrelief by reasons of their age, youth or social and economic circumstances by the Provision ofan effective advocacy service primarily but not exclusively in Preston and thesurrounding areas, Our vision is for a community where all individuals are empowered to live, thrive, and foster @ greater sense of control, and all choices are considered, Our mission Is to place advocacy at the heart ofthe community, to ensure all voices are heard, ail views are understood, healthier community for everyone Our purpose is to Provide independent and accessible advocacy services, empowering individuals to build a fairer, : The key objectives of the charity throughout this period were to continue to deliver existing projects, through paid staff, volunteers and students, while seeking new opportunities through partnership working. The longer-term objective was to extend external independent client advocacy services, to explore and secure new funding opportunities while seeking | further funding from current stakeholders to enable the charity to continue the established work it has become known for. forThrough our local our communitiesstakeholders, andpartners to considerand service ways users tO meetWe thoseare actively needs working to identify unmet neds foradvocacy services The objectives for the year were to continue to deliver advocacy services Supporting benefit claimants with benefit assessments and appeal tribunal hearings which was financed through a dedicated funding source from May 2019. From July 2020 this service was also extended to residents ofBlackpool and Blackburn with Darwen. The charity also delivered a consortium project funded by Preston City Council to Support financially excluded people, Due to COVIDII pandemic ICANN additionally aimed to provide appropriate advocacy support to local residents experiencing loneliness and isolation, along with information about COVID, COVID help services and associated financial services,
ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities The charity supports adults, children and young people disadvantaged by disability, physical/mental illness, age or social exclusion to make known their needs and wishes in order to obtain appropriate services and so increase their quality of life. It does this through the provision of local, community-based services that meet needs not currently met through other public service provision. Refetrals to the charity's services increase consistently month on month and the charity continues to be recognised and Supported both by voluntary organizations and Statutory bodies. The charity has developed a strong focus on community advocacy and all activity is measured against criteria which meets the needs of people who would not normally have access to statutory advocacy services. Feedback from beneficiaries and partners is used to review and refine services to ensure objectives are met and to inform and strengthen funding applications. andBIG ESA Lottery assessments Reaching taking Communities place throughout funding was the county secured districts in May of 2019Lancashire, for 3 years BIG to Lottery provide Reachingadvocacy Communities supportat PIP in Partnership funding was secured in April 2020 to deliver same service to the unitary authorities of Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen, working in partnership with Shelter and Blackpool Citizens Advice. A consortium grant was secured through Preston City Council to provide support to people considered as financially excluded. ICANN is the grant holder and distributes grant payments to six consortium partners, Additional funding was secured from Lancashire Community Foundation and the RANK Organisation to provide additional COVID services including a telephone befriending project and to provide help with form filling for benefits publishedThe trustees by havethe Charity complied Commission. with the duty in Section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 with due regard to the public benefit

FINANCIAL REVIEW Financial position The surplus/(deficit) for the year was £109,987 2020: Deficit £(7,936) at least March 2023. The trustees confirm that they consider the assets ofthe charity are adequate to fulfil the Obligations of the charity until Principal funding sources The principal funding source is the BIG Lottery Reaching Communities and Reaching Communities in Partnership Projects. This provides revenue for staff time which would otherwise be met from reserves,

Reporting to Board of Trustees, the charity has one full-time Head of Services who manages a Part time volunteer coordinator, apart time senior advocate, 4 part time advocates, a part time administrative worker, a part time fundraising and business development project worker and a part time social media person. Volunteers provide their time freely in a fange ofroles. A management committee oversees the running ofthe charity on behalf of its members, Recruitment and appointment of new trustees Trustees arerecruited from within the membership ofthe organization, from the local communities which ICANN serves, memberand, as far organas i szations practicable, and th r e cruitmentcommunit i ses targ th e tedy serve. to reflect both the skills that are needed and the diversity ofmembers, Induction and training of new trustees Induction training is provided to all trustees on appointment to familiarize them with the work of the organization and to ensure that they are able to make an immediate contribution to its strategic management, Key management rem uneration The charity applies salaries to all personnel commensurate with duties and that are consistent with the parameters of nationally agreed rates ofpay. The charity considers its key management personnel to be the Head of Services. Risk management theTherisks, trustees have examined the major strategic, business and operational risks which the charity faces and confirmed that systems have been established to enable regular reports to be produced so that the necessary steps can be taken to lessen

Independent Community Advocacy Network North (ICANN) Notes to the Financial Statements for the Year Ended 31 Mareh 2021 ACCOUNTING POLICIES POLICIES Basis ofpreparing the financial statements The financial statements ofthe charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been Prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) ‘Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable tocharities Preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable inthe UK and Republic ofIreland (FRS 102) (effective | January 2019)", Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland’ and the Charities Act 2011. The financial Statements have been Prepared under the historical cost convention, Income All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably, Expenditure Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount ofthe obligation can be measured reliably, Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has resources,been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of not accruedGrants offered as expenditure, subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a commitment but Tangible fixed assets Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write offeach asset over its estimated useful life, Fixtures and fittings ~ 20% on reducing balance Computer equipment - 33% on cost Taxation The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities, Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees, Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects ofthe charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes. Further explanation ofthe nature and purpose ofeach fund is included in the notes to the financial statements. Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits ; : The charity operates a defined contribution pension scheme.
