Riding for the Disabled Rossington Hall Group Charity 1074139 Chairman's Report 2024-2025 At the end of my second year in the role, I have the pleasure of presenting the Chairman's Report for Riding for the Disabled, Rossington Hall Group, Doncaster, for the year April 2024-March 2025. We continue to provide accessible riding and horse care lessons to both adults and children with special needs, five days a week. By running into the evenings, we enable a greater proportion of the Socal communities to experience the physical and mental benefits of being around horses, whilst they learn new skills and make new friends. Special thanks go to our dedicated team of coaches and volunteers who not only share their knowledge and expertise to run the lessons but also provide daily care for our horses and ponies and maintain the field hygiene. During the year our two new coaches, Linsey and Lisa earned their qualification as a Group Coach. Our herd has remained stable with no new equines joining it and with none moving on. Some have on going niggles with their health, but all have received appropriate care and attention as necessary to maintain their health and well being. Some have required time off but have returned to sessions once fully fit. The support of our families, local businesses, groups, and organisations has never been more vital for our survival. The rise in the cost of living has hit hard. Along with a very dry early Spring requiring the use of forage usually reserved for the winter months and increase in costs of services and supplies, this year is potentially going to be a very expensive one. Some of our fund-raising activities have become annual events. Thank you to all those who attended our Family Fun Dog Show in September and our Rossington RDA Quiz Night in November, kindly hosted by Armthorpe Coronation Working Men's Club. We were welcomed at the Golf Tournament at Doncaster Golf Club, with the Group's Trustees providing refreshments at the Halfvrfay House. A team of keen quizzers attend Quiz Nights arranged by the local Doncaster Rotary Club, who run them twice a year to raise funds for us. We are not quite ready for University Challenge or Eggheads, but we deserve 10110 for enthusiasm and persistence. A team of swimmers entered the Swimathon organised by the Rotary Club of Retford again. Torne Valley continues to support us with hay and equine related products. Global Herbs for supplements and the Friendship Estates for the supply of HorseHage. Champion Hire kindly lend us the use of a heater to wami the waiting area during the colder months. Steve Halsall Electrical Contractor supplied us with the two new outside flood lights, improving safety and security especially during evening sessions. Winvic Construction kindly funded and produced some new banners and, a generous donation from Tickhill Lions purchased and fitted new kickboards in our arena,
making it safer for our riders. Painting of the kickboards was done by RDA volunteers, trustees and volunteers from Tickhill Lions. The refurbished arena was officially opened by Tickhill Lions at our August Open day. With a grant from Screwfix Foundation all our arena lights were replaced with updated LED ones, plus the addition of spotlights in our darker corners. In the Autumn, the college did work on the carpark, drilling holes and filling them with seaweed to reduce the risk of flooding. A grant from Well Doncaster (Doncaster City Council) provided funding for the dressage mirrors, folding tables and horse anatomy posters for the education comer and new rugs for our horses and ponies. A team from the Department of Work and Pensions spent a day repainting the shelters and clearing the ground around the feeders. Individuals making craft items to sell, decorated horseshoes, sponsored sporting activities. Pieces of art donated by Eleanor Tomlinson and Melissa, one of our riders and a donation from the Mexborough and District Rotary Club. We aim to include a note of thanks to supporters in our Newsletters around the time of their donation. I couldn't possibly mention everyone in this report, although I have tried, but everything helps and whether your donation is pennies or pounds we are incredibly grateful for all the support we receive. Finally, a huge thank you to all the Trustees who give their time freely and willingly, especially Ann the Treasurer, Sharon the Secretary, and Craig our Health and Safety expertlmaintenance guru and all the other trustees who all work tirelessly to maintain the smooth day to day running of the group. Mary continues to run her bric-a-brac stalls earning money for her famed Carrot Fund, and Jean is always happy to step in when extra support is needed at the Golf Day and quiz nights although both officially retired from the trustees. Thank you to Sue and Roy Hobbs who continue to spend their weekends mending fences and providing maintenance to the field shelters. Our little herd of eight keep them very busy.
