New trustees are appointed by current trustees according to their area of expertise and ability to make positive contribution. Members of the Parish may put themselves foward for consideration by the trustees. Objectives and activities Provide a place of Orthodox Christian worship for all and provide spiritual and emotional care and support to those in need. The promotion of orthodox faith worship and pastoral care within the parish which is in an area within a 60-mile radius of thereabouts of Nottingham. Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit We provide a full cycle of Liturgical services with particular emphasis concerning the major calendar events and provide the facilities such as a fully stocked theological library, space for meetings and socialising and organising pilgrimages. Regular services are held in the Church: liturgies on Sundays and vespers on Saturdays. The church is open all day on Fridays for those who want to pray in private, talk to the Priest and help in the church. During major celebrations like Christmas and Easter, services are held daily. As a Parish we have a few pilgrimages during the year, members of our Parish and clergy participate in the annual conference of the DI0Se of Sourozh held in June.
The Orthodox Parish of St Aidan & St Chad Nottingham Public benefit statement The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit,. Summary of the main achievements during the period The Parish continues to grow with the number of parishioners reaching 200 on a church roll. The average weekly attendance is 60-70 people and this figure increases during major festive periods during Christmas & Easter. As well as our regular seniices, parish members benefit from the special ServIS related to very important moments of life like baptisms. weddings & funerals. Financial review The Charity's principal source of funds are voluntary donations by stsnding orders and cash collections during the seniices. The Charity also claims Gift Aid from HMRC. Major expenditure for the year are.- building maintenance, utility expenses, insurance, church items & vestments and Priests, stipend. The net surplus for the year is £17,942. The charity's policy on reserves The trustees do not have a formal reserve policy. although there are three designated funds. Independent examiner's report to the trustees of The Orthodox Parish of St Aidan & St Chad Nottingham for the year ended 31 December 2023 I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of The Orthodox Parish of St Aidan & St Chad Nottingham (the charity) for the year ended 31 December 2023. Responsibilities and basis of report As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ('the Act,). I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. Independent examiner's statement I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act. or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records. I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
