Canolfan Plant Sir Gậr/Carmarthenshire Children’s Centre Bandi Appeal/Apel Bandi January 14[th] , 2025 Trustees Annual Report 2024-2025 Jane Rees: Chairperson’s Report
This year we have met for three times as Trustees face to face, whilst also offering to include virtual participation. We have also been able as 2 or 3 Trustees to attend the newly established Bandi Appeal Project Group on a monthly basis- meeting seven times this year-with also a successful separate multi-agency workshop. We are grateful to the Hywel Dda University Health Board (HDdUHB)for their administration support and providing accommodation and hospitality services to assist with progress.
At our last AGM the following officers were appointed. Chairperson : Jane Rees Vice Chair: Dr Carol Williams Hon Sec: Jane Rees Hon Treasurer; Jean Reynolds Minute Sec: Rev Euryl Howells Publicity Officer: Roy Watkins
It was a great honour once again to continue as Chairperson of Canolfan Plant Sir Gar/Bandi Appeal.
We acknowledge the continued interest of Dr Sue Warren, our President, and continue to seek a new Patron.
The Charity has made some progress financially with gaining more interest by re-investment and is always grateful for donations, especially during this difficult economic climate. We offer our most grateful thanks to Jean Reynolds, our Treasurer for her enthusiasm, skills and guidance. The charity continues to raise awareness to our wider community especially with Social media & the local press.
There are challenges and a renewal of opportunities ahead- as we move closer to the charity’s goal with the following links as we now acknowledge a timeline for realistic plans.
A. Links with Community Representatives
a) Hywel Dda University Health Board/Multi Agency
Communication and consultation plans with the charity have made some progress as we have highlighted a possible area of refurbishment on the Glangwili Hospital site or an alternative to suit. We welcome the continued support of Chief Executive of Hywel Dda University Health Board, Prof Phil Kloer and his team. We are so grateful for his positive
outlook for the Bandi Appeal to succeed. As a result an enthusiastic multiagency/user/family representative team has been formed and continues to thrive in the form of the newly established Bandi Appeal Project Group, We, are grateful to all representatives for their enthusiasm. We look forward to future discussions with the Estates Department to move the project forward at a suitable property managed by HDdUHB.
Last year we highlighted that explorations of a demountable /refurbishing of an existing building owned by HDdUHB could be considered and it is the latter that is being considered, with the consideration that the purpose of this building will not change with time.
We wish to help provide a facility for the Children & Families of Need which will cater for identified need initially ...or if we are not able to make swifter progress we will be considering alternative options to use the money raised by our generous public.
b)Local Authority
We are grateful for the patience & support of our Carmarthenshire County Council & local Town/ Community Councils across areas of Carmarthenshire that have been able to recognise the importance of this Charity and its aims. We hope that continued links made with our local authority will enable an opportunity for a representative to attend our future Trustee Board meetings and foster closer links of support to enable this charity’s aims to be highlighted in County Council business. We are always grateful to local schools for donations and hope to renew links in 2026
c)Local Communities
We are always grateful to the support and interest given by local Churches and Chapels, schools , local businesses and organisationsand acknowledge the need for emotional and spiritual support that families may need at difficult times as a child/sibling/family member comes to terms with everyday challenges. It is also important that we continue to raise awareness and link with updated information ...using the brand name Bandi..and ensuring the Blue Eliffant is very visible and the understanding of what it represents
B. Trustees
We endeavour to invite people who have skills to offer to join us complete our project as per Charity Commission guidelines.

C. Marketing..raising the profile
-
The branding of the charity as the Bandi Appeal/Apel Bandi continues to help the promotion of the Charity..the little Blue Eliffant. There are plans to further Bandi’s popularity as a character in future events.
-
A web-site is not functional at present as we wait for a clear plan from the Health Board & other agencies and we will be using “bandi.wales” when the time is right.
-
Information leaflets/ business cards are available with current contacts *Social media such as Facebook, with the 2 pages: Bandi Appeal and Carmarthenshire Children’s Centre continues to update people about events/ meetings donation presentations and has proved quite successful in contacting the younger age groups.
-
The mobile phone access will require updating in the future-if appropriate-however, a contact number /email address is printed on new business cards and is proving sufficient at present.
-
A lap-top has been purchased and will be set up for future use with the charity personal email.
-
As we consider updating our media we must consider the Community that this Charity project serves. Our leaflet has been updated with interim print-outs available with up to date contacts and administration detail- to be amended as appropriate.
-
Knitted blue eliffants ( Bandi): Knitting patterns continue to be available on request/at an event. Volunteers across Carmarthenshire and community groups continue to offer to knit the Bandi eliffant. Other craft items/promotional items will also be considered.
-
Fostering links with appropriate marketing media will continue and all ideas are welcome. It is hoped to link more closely with the Fund raising team at HDdUHB, and other appropriate organisations
-
We continue to have a presence in our local community to raise the profile by attending this year St Clears YF Agricultural Show, Carmarthen Mayor’s Garden Party and considered as a charity for St Clears Town Mayor’s Civic Years 2025-2026.
Closing Remarks
May I thank you as Trustees, Representatives of the Health Board, and our local Community representatives for your continued support to our charity. We look forward to moving with future pledges of time and expertise with a great team.
A grateful thanks to our very generous community for their donations...diolch yn fawr iawn
