Achievements and performance

2020 had its ups and downs but the club has come through it in a position of financial stability.

The enclosed income statement includes an amount of £16,401 for grants we successfully applied for.

Also there is an outstanding debt of £2,000 which was settled in January 2021.

Sponsorship and fund raising produced welcome income and these monies have been used to improve the facilities ie pavilion renovation with new lighting, carpets, bar security, changing rooms access, repairs and security, ladies toilet and all outside facilities, guttering replaced and the cctv system extended to cover the external areas. 90% of this work was done by our members.

Saturday cricket commenced in July with our 2 teams playing a shorter version of normal cricket, well done to our 2nd team who won their division but lost in the play-off final.

All games were played under Covid-19 regulations and all players, official and supporters were an absolute credit following the guidelines at all times.

We played the annual charity game against Todwick and raised funds for 2 charities, RAF Benevolent Fund and Safe At Last and the club also donated £100 to the total raised.

We have already commenced plans for 2021 and the £2,000 outstanding debt mentioned earlier is for the refurbishment of the practice area which includes replacement of the existing cage with a new roll on test standard cage and Astro turf around the existing practice strip. We have purchased all the material and all the work will be done by ourselves. We have purchased a "digital kit" for an electronic scoreboard and at present it is all set up and working on an 8ft x 4ft board which will be fitted on the outside wall covered by an electric roller shutter which has also been purchased.

Cost new to buy scoreboard is approx. 5-6K and shutter 1K. Our outlay on the whole project will be £2.2K complete and will be fitted by us when the weather is better. Special thanks to our Chairman and Secretary Steve & Sue Long and Gary Lomas and our usual volunteers who have really made this happen.

The club changeover from NatWest Bank to the Co-op bank is set up and a date for the switch is being agreed. This will enable the club to use Internet Banking, Debit cards etc instead of cheques only and will also make the club £1,250 for switching.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of Waleswood Sports Cricket Club

Year ended 31 December 2020

I report to the trustees on my examination of the financial statements of Waleswood Sports Cricket Club ('the charity') for the year ended 31 December 2020.

Responsibilities and basis of report

As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the financial statements in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).

I report in respect of my examination of the charity's financial statements carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.

Independent examiner's statement

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

  1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or

  2. the financial statements do not accord with those records; or

  3. the financial statements do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair' view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.

I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

3. Accounting policies

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the trustees to further any of the charity's purposes.

3. Accounting policies (continued)

Incoming resources

All incoming resources are included in the statement of financial activities when entitlement has passed to the charity; it is probable that the economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the charity and the amount can be reliably measured. The following specific policies are applied to particular categories of income:

Resources expended

Expenditure is recognised on an accruals basis as a liability is incurred. Expenditure includes any VAT which cannot be fully recovered, and is classified under headings of the statement of financial activities to which it relates:

All costs are allocated to expenditure categories reflecting the use of the resource. Direct costs attributable to a single activity are allocated directly to that activity. Shared costs are apportioned between the activities they contribute to on a reasonable, justifiable and consistent basis.

Government grants

Government grants are recognised at the fair value of the asset received or receivable. Grants are not recognised until there is reasonable assurance that the charity will comply with the conditions attaching to them and the grants will be received.

3. Accounting policies (continued)

Government grants (continued)

Where the grant does not impose specified future performance-related conditions on the recipient, it is recognised in income when the grant proceeds are received or receivable. Where the grant does impose specified future performance-related conditions on the recipient, it is recognised in income only when the performance-related conditions have been met. Where grants received are prior to satisfying the revenue recognition criteria, they are recognised as a liability.
