This<br>programme has since been enlarged to include a Healthy Choices<br>programme which delivers health, sex and relationship education to both<br>girls and boys with a view to informing and changing attitudes.<br>.<br>The trustees are keenly aware of the need for all activities to be clearly<br>for the public benefit in every respect, in line with the guidelines PB1, 2<br>and 3.|

The projects supported by Amani UK are all self-help community projects. As such, a major element of grant making decisions are based on the degree of local initiatives, the practical contribution in implementing and the nature of on-going participation. Through Upendo Foundation, a fully Kenyan NGO founded by Amani UK, there is increased focus on developing a broader base of international support for the projects there, as they currently have Amani UK as sole sponsor. There has been limited success in gaining funding for specific projects, but it continues to be a challenge for longer term core sponsorship. 

The focus continues to be on Income Generating Activities (IGA’s) to assist their core funding requirements.

Contrary to the trend in 2023, we were challenged by a sharp GB£ / KES exchange rate deterioration of approx. 20% at the start of 2024, after the 2024 budget had been agreed. However, having set a relatively conservative budget and due to continued generosity from our donors, we were able to more than meet our 2024 budgeted objectives. • The spring protection projects funded by a grant from the Kitchen Table Charities Trust and another donor at the end of 2023 were all completed successfully. This has resulted in reliable, clean water now being accessible to hundreds of people in rural areas. • The grant from the Mercury Phoenix Trust (MPT) mentioned in last year’s report has enabled our NGO partner in Kenya (the Upendo Foundation) to continue the Healthy Choices programme providing mental and physical health services, counselling and HIV testing to adolescents and young adults. Another grant was received from MPT during the year enabling the Healthy Choices programme to continue throughout 2025 and 2026. • The grant received from the Shalom Trust for the purpose of expanding the community group Economic Empowerment (EE) programme has been distributed. Approx. 40% of all the community groups we support have now been incorporated into the EE programme and the results are impressive. Virtually every group has increased their fund value significantly whilst also giving support to the most vulnerable widows and orphans within the group. • Whilst the EE programme continues, we are still equipping those groups which have not been selected to participate in the programme with farm inputs and equipment, as has been the case for many years. • Fundraising for the Ted Rayner Memorial Clinic has been strong and this has enabled further capital investment in the clinic as well as the re-instigation of community medical camps where anyone from the local community can come to the clinic on a specific day for free medical care. These days attract hundreds of patients. • Fundraising for Keep a Girl in School has also continued strongly, enabling the number of female students supported with the provision of sanitary towels to be increased by over 15% to 3,500+. • Team visits are now fully re-established following the Covid pandemic, with three visits taking place during the year. • We are reducing our orphan support programme in favour of using our resources to support community groups. This reduction is happening gradually, as it must, ensuring that supported orphans can complete their education and are given additional help to enable them to become self-sufficient. The trustees decided to make the substantial commitment to hold an “Amani UK Expo” in February 2025. The purpose of this is to create an opportunity for everyone in the Hazlemere area to come and witness for themselves the positive impact we are making. The results will be reported in next year’s report. We continue to focus on our safeguarding responsibilities and are happy to advise that there were no reported safeguarding concerns in 2024. Further safeguarding training has taken place within the Upendo Foundation and they are disseminating the safeguarding concept to local organisations and schools where it has been received very positively.

**Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves** 

Amani UK operates without any overheads and is a natural conduit of donations, flowing through to Kenya from the UK. As such there is no requirement for a reserves policy for its totally voluntary UK situation. The Trustees are mindful however of the employee costs we are committed to within the Upendo NGO we support in Kenya and consequently maintain a reserves policy equivalent to a minimum of 3 months to cover these.

Historically Amani UK’s funding has come from individuals and churches. This base continues to expand with the increasing number of both young and mature group visits. As many of the young people go off to university and then on into ever widening areas of employment, so the base of support grows. Amani UK also continues to be successful in obtaining funding support for specific projects through other trusts and charities.
