We hove retoined our Trustees and all Trustees have contributed to the running of CARAD.
We have held regular Board meetings and communicoted via phone and email if any
decisions needed to be made or inlormalion shafed. I would like to thank my fellow trustees

We storled the year wilh our adminislrolot. Nooko Tokiguchi who left us in October 2021.
after the end of the furfough scheme. We wsh to thonk her for her work. We decided not to
reploce her whilst the Museum was closed. with Administralion folling lo two Truslee
co-directors. Our Finonce Officer. Michelle Thomos. was intermittently lurfoughed and
broughl bock out al short notice lo creole budgets, financiol foreca515 Qnd colculalions to
support voiiovs funding bids. Our cleaner Anita Woods was initially ￿Oughed but then left
due to ill heolth. She wos replaced by Eloine Lewis. Aster Woods. our Digital ond Project5
officer has run our sociol media and webslte. She produced our regulor newsletter and ran
ond designed with us our digital and other projects.
We employed Luke LowTence under the Kick5tort scheme to enler some ol our collections
onto specialised museum's digital management $of￿are. Thi5 wll moke them accessible to
o wider public. When this conlroct finished. we were oble to continue employing him on
reduced hours thanks 10 5UPP(¥t from Elon Links.
We hove employed session wofkers to run wot*shops and ¢Jvlreach event5 ond lo do some
maintenance work.
We employed o designer. Ruby Pugh ond cfisploy volunteer coordinator and maker, Rob Hill
Ibolh wth local connections,) on Short term contracts for the new Museum development.
We wish lo Ihonk oll our stoff for the dedication they pul into their work and their willingne55

Covid 2021 - 22
At the start of this finonciol year, we were still impocled by Covid ond lockdowns. We were
working horcl to keep up wilh the doy-to-doy monogemenl of the organi501ion ond the
delivery of its projects. We started the year with our rental and shop income Severely
impacted bul wilh some Covid funding to supp￿1 us. Covid ond supply choin issues affected
the builders which in turn alfecled our iedevelopmenl timeloble. Our usual income stream5
were lost ond we were very grateful for the stalulory and choriloble funding we received.
which enabled us not only lo survive the period of closure. but also lo be able to plon for the
future.

The Mvsevm. At the very end of the losl finonciol yeor. we received notice thol we had
been svccesslul in gaining the Welsh Government, 'Tronsformations'. copitol giant and
SUPPOTt from Powys ond Trusls ond Foundolions. lo enoble us to pul a new floor inlo the
Museum building, design new di5ploys and inslallations ond creole a one-way flow through
the building.
The building now hos o new name 'fimescope Rhayoder. Amserwedd Rhaeadr Gwy. to
reflect Ihe duol oreos ol locol heritoge ond londscape and to look at atlrocting oudiences
Ihol may be pul off by the word 'Mu5eum'. It wl1 create o visitor atlraclion, which is more
relevonl and interesting lo o Wid￿ ronge ol visitors. It will 0150 allow us lo develop our
educotionol offer ond work with locol schools. It wll provide o significantly enhanced cultural
instilulion, as well os a more significant ond atlractive wet weother destination for an area
which hos few such indoor places.
This development will support our wc¥k in economic regenerolion vio our arts. tourism and
community porlnerships ond help delNer the social, herilage ond community engogemenl
benefils. The change in our dispIoy5 is in line wth community consultotion.
We held projecl monogemenl meetings wilh the builders. desoner. volunleers engogemenl
person. prolessionol advi50r5 ond with communily members and volunteer5 interested in

The building work w05 due 10 5torl in July 2021. but dve lo Covid and supply chain i5sue5, It
did not start until the end of September 2021. These problems hove conlinued lo alfecl the
builder's capacity to deliver and finish the controcled work. Desplte using all our
contingency. some of whal we hoped to do has had to be cvl. The delay5 olso impocted
our obilily to work with volunteers on the displays as we were mindful of health and sofety.
The building proce55 W05 fvjrther complicoted by hoving to move out of the Building Cenlre
which we hod used for over twenty yeaT5 0$ O Store for both Ihe Museum and our other
project and resource materials. We had just moved the Museum display items into il when
Ihe owner 501d the building. 11 took us many months to sort. recycle, ond cleor. We'd like lo
Ihank Adam and Leonie Borrott of Art Metol. the bvilding's new owners, for being so helpful
over the process. We finally were able to move inlo Unil 3 behind the Museum as a
lemporory move which olso allow us a chance to use it as a wthshop spoce durrng the
disploy construction.
We conlinued an 'Object in Foeus. strand unlil the middle of the yeor. We stopped this formal
strand but continued to use objects to inspire themed leaming octivities and cralls in printed
und digitol forms. These are also on our website and social media pages.
Our ovldoor exhlbltlon space. funded by Arl Fund ond the We15h Governmenl hod o new
exhibition installed lo enswe that Visit￿ would have something to see when they come
down whilst we were in redevelopment. We hove 0150 reinstated our raised bed ond

Our monthly, 'CARAD Film Club. has continued vntil the middle of Ihe yeor.
'CARAD Art•st of the Month.. showcasing locol ortists hos olso continued. We asked artisls to
creote o filmed workshop. Strong Ihemes of creative techniques lor coping, heolth ond
wellbeing again come out of these workshops olong wth a wonderful opportunity for ortists
to showcase their work and earn a smoll omounl in a difficult time.
Additional funding hos enobled us to have much greoler use of Welsh on our online
plotforms and printed moteriol5.
We continued lo njn the 'Dragon Club,. This st¢Jled Ihe year as a free fortnightly online club
for all ages. bul principally oimed ot childrer) bul we lenglhened the lime between releoses
as numbers were dropping os the summer wore on. The club continued lo feature o mix of
locol hi51ory, heritoge and nolurol wodd infomiotion. themed octivities. crafting and orts
piojecls. themed digital colouring ond digital jig5(IWS.

We started new monlhly Nalure Tolk and Draw workshops wth local experts giving tolks and
people drowing the samples they brought in. These have proved to be very popular.

In Jonuary 2022, we resumed planning for Ihe Rh05 P(5slures project and interviewed and
appointed a Project Officer. We are delivering the arls, heritoge ond community
engogement elements the Rodnorshire Wildlife Trust's Rhos Pasture5 project. This
Ihree-yeor piojecl will now be o Iwo yeor one 05 It W05 funded by European Ivnding. A
programme of aclivitie5 Started. inclLpding orts and croft5 oclivilies. family days. walks and
talks. oll designed to raise owareness of this unique local landscape type. We olso
interviewed f(y on ortist in re>dence for the project. We heid regular planning and steering
group meetings.
Elan Links Landscape Partneiship Scheme. The pioject WOS Suspended due to Covid ond our
project staff were furfoughed or left and were not replaced, with very little activity
hoppening 0$ o iesull. There wos some WO￿ done by volunteers on oral history tronscribing.

ond telling the story of the oreo.
We have done an Active Offer course from PAVO on the vse of the Welsh Language ond
embedding the Welsh Longuage in our work ond online.
We've lollowed the Strengthening Yovr Govemonce course run by the WCVA during Truslee5
week.
