This year, we said a heartfelt goodbye to Janice, who has been such a valued part of our team. We marked this by sharing a meal and a game of pool in Bury St Edmunds (some pictures below).
At the same time, we’ve been excited to welcome James on board, who has brought lots of energy and ideas to the team.
Hannah has been working hard and had many opportunities to learn & flourish in her role.
It’s clear we are blessed with a committed, passionate team.

Staff ’ Director s Report
As I look back on this past year, I am filled with gratitude P for all that has taken place. It’s been a year marked by > growth, new beginnings, fond farewells, and a renewed sense of purpose as we continue to serve and connect 7 with young people across our communities.
"The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything."
— Deuteronomy 2:7
This verse comes from a moment in Israel’s journey through the wilderness, where despite the hardship and long road, God reminds them of His continual presence and provision. The surrounding verses in Deuteronomy 2 reflect on how God led His people with care, gave them guidance, sustained them through challenges, and brought them into new land in His perfect timing. It’s a powerful reminder that even in uncertainty or transition, God sees, blesses, and is with us in the work we do.
This truth has resonated deeply with us this year.
Some highlights from the Year...
Our partnership with the Head of RE at MCA has truly flourished. As a result, we’ve seen a significant increase in lesson engagement this year—an encouraging sign of the trust and relationship we’re building there. We've also expanded our lesson delivery at Vista Academy in Littleport. Around Christmas time we were able to see all of KS3 and Year 10. This broadening of scope reflects the trust schools are placing in us and the relevance of the work we’re doing.
The Newmarket Lunch Club initiative launched this year with enthusiasm and has grown steadily. We've not only seen strong numbers but also built meaningful connections with students and staff. While there have been some challenges along the way, the opportunities and impact have made it more than worthwhile.
Youth Leaders Gatherings has been a new initiative this year. These gatherings have gone really well. As we look to the future, we’re excited to build momentum by moving them to a monthly rhythm and shifting away from Saturdays to better support leaders’ schedules.
Staff Cont’d...
It’s been a real privilege to visit many of your churches this year to share stories of our work and celebrate what God is doing through it. If we haven’t visited your church yet, we’d love to—please do get in touch.
Looking Ahead…
We’re excited to be launching The Well, a new youth worship event, in the coming academic year. Please be praying for this new step—may it be a space for young people to encounter God, be inspired, and grow in their faith.
We continue to seek deeper connections with schools in Soham, Bottisham, and Ely. Please join us in prayer for open doors and new partnerships in these areas.
On a personal note, it’s been a blessing to get more involved with worship, both in the centre and at church this year. Finding new ways to incorporate worship into our work has been enriching. At home, we’re thankful that all three children are thriving and settled in school—what a gift!
As ever, none of this would be possible without your support—through prayer, encouragement, time, or giving. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. We’re excited for what’s to come and grateful to be walking this road together.
This year, we’ve truly experienced what Deuteronomy 2:7 speaks of—God’s blessing on the work of our hands, His faithful presence, and provision in every step. We move forward with faith, knowing He continues to go before us.
With love
Tasha
Staff Hannah
I have been working for Newmarket and District Youth for Christ for 2 years. It has been amazing to see some of the young people that come regularly to our events grow and build on their faith. It has also been encouraging to talk about Jesus to those who have never thought much about faith and beliefs.
For the AGM last year, I said that public speaking has never been my strong suit. Though that is still true, as it is not something that comes naturally to me. Over the last year, I have improved by presenting assemblies and lessons. Improving and becoming more confident in speaking publicly / to an audience.
I love preparing and going to the lunch clubs. It has been great to see how the lunch clubs at Soham Village College have changed and grown since last year. We now have a group of regulars that come to the lunch club we started in Newmarket Academy in October, which is great.
I have enjoyed building connections with the local churches, mainly through helping with their youth groups. Over the last year, I have been helping Burwell Baptist church with their Rock-Solid group, and for a few months, I was also helping King’s Church with their Youth Café. It has been such fun and has helped us to build relationships and connect with the young people in the local area.
I have also been attending and taking a couple of young people to the youth church in Red Lodge and Revive in Ely. And it has been great to see young people from the local towns coming together, friendships forming and having fellowship together. At Connect, we saw young people from the local towns attend and saw new friendships forming.
I would love to see more of this - young people from different areas coming together and building connections, friendships and fellowship with each other as well as building on their knowledge and faith in Jesus.
Hopefully, our vision for The Well will do just that.
Hannah
Staff James
It has been a blessed start with Newmarket and District Youth for Christ. I started in February 2025. In that time I have had the pleasure of; Leading weekly lunch clubs at Mildenhall College Academy (MCA), teaching lessons at
MCA, Newmarket Academy (NA) and Ely College (EC), delivering Assemblies in Soham Village College (SVC), MCA and NA, planning and being at Connect, meeting with the wonderful Youth Leaders in the area, and more. All of this has been such good fun.
My main areas of growth have been delivering lessons. This was something I hadn’t done much before and something I have had the opportunity to grow into, and I am loving it. My big win for lessons has been within MCA; I really enjoyed teaching the Forgiveness lesson to year 9. In particular alongside the head of RE in the school, along with the brilliant students and their challenging questions.
I was involved in the lunch club at MCA before I started with NDYFC, so I have been going along for more than a year. It has been a blessing to see the young people come back every week and grow in their knowledge and get to know me better as I get to know them and teach them. There is one particular young person who I have seen grow hugely recently. Their journey has been so exciting to watch and I am wowed by what God is doing in their life and so keen to see what’s next for them.
At our Connect youth event, it was great to see our young leader, Will, and his willingness to join us and grow in his own youth work abilities alongside us.
Something I am looking forward to in the new year is The Well!! I am very excited to start this initiative, to partner with the local churches and grow a youth group community based in the district.
I am also excited to continue to grow and develop in my skills especially video editing and creating: we create video assemblies for some of the schools. I hope to further my skills and make some really great assemblies.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to him and he will make your paths straight.
This has been really key to me over the last 12 months. A lot has changed and God has been doing a lot. The ability to trust him has been a essential for me and I have been so blessed in this time.

Jane
I recently read the story of Gideon, where God sent Gideon to lead an army against the Midianites to save Israel. Gideon, feeling very inadequate for the task, responded to God by saying, "How can I save Israel?" To which God simply replied, "I will be with you" (Judges 6:15-16). For me, this is a powerful reminder that if we are serving God and asking, "How can I do this, God?" we know that we can because God will always be with us when we seek His help. While we may not be leading an army into battle, we still need God beside us in our journey and service for the Lord Almighty. This has certainly been the case for N&DYFC over the past year, and I believe it will continue in the year ahead. There have been numerous situations where the staff and trustees have sought God's guidance, and with His help and faithfulness, we have seen answers to prayers and an outpouring of blessings.
One such example is a plan that started about a year ago to map churches in the area. A small team have begun to visit churches and share the work of N&DYFC. As a result, we have seen new supporters sign up for the prayer diary, offer help with volunteering, and become regular financial supporters. Hallelujah, God is good. Increasing our support means that the invaluable youth mission work of N&DYFC can continue.
Seeking God's guidance and help wouldn't be possible without setting aside ample time to 'pause and pray'. Following the PAUSE and PRAYER fortnight in 2024, it was felt that pausing and praying should become a regular part of our routine, not just something done occasionally. Therefore, since September, the Executive committee meetings have been held every other month instead of monthly, with the alternating month dedicated to a prayer meeting.

In February, we said goodbye to Janice. During her time with N&DYFC, she brought wisdom, passion, and stability during a season of change. We sent her on her way with our thanks and blessings as she started her new role with Lightwave. At the same time, we welcomed James, who has brought his enthusiasm and passion for youth mission, quickly embedding himself into the team. And seeing how well the new team is gelling together shows that God is at work and guiding N&DYFC on their mission journey. On behalf of all the Trustees a huge thank you to Tasha, James and Hannah for your dedication and commitment to the work of N&DYFC.
Being a Trustee and Chairperson for over five years has been a privilege. Hearing the stories of young lives positively impacted by the ‘good news’ brings joy to my soul. Supporting the team as they organize and plan their many activities is the best volunteer role ever! However, being a Trustee involves responsibility, overseeing the centre and ensuring that all policies are adhered to, and that the centre are good stewards of the generous donations. Big thank you to Nick, our treasurer for his diligent managing of the centre’s finances.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I would like to say a huge thank you to all our supporters, volunteers, prayer supporters, and financial supporters. Everyone who has contributed in whatever way, your generosity has enabled N&DYFC to continue in the mission work of sharing the ‘good news’ to hundreds of young people in our area.
God Bless Jane Culpin Chair of Trustees Newmarket and District Youth for Christ.

As I reflect back on another year of the input and impact of Newmarket & District Youth for Christ, I know that I speak on behalf of many churches, schools, youth workers, parents, and individual Christians when I express how grateful we are to the team for their vision, focus, energy, input, prayerfulness, and their sold-out commitment to serving thousands of young people across our region. What a joy it is to be able to celebrate, another year on, the great many young lives who, in our schools, groups, and churches, have heard of the good news of Jesus as a direct result of the team bravely and boldly speaking something of the truth of Jesus into their young lives.
As members of the Council for Reference - who are a group of people all representing Churches from across the area and YFC radius - we have been thrilled to hear updates over the year of Tasha and the teams’ prayerfulness, seeking the Lord constantly for direction, and making the most of opportunities to rally, encourage, support, and collaborate with schools, churches, and youth workers across the region to see the gospel made known.
As a Council we meet three times a year and seek to prayerfully support the team, hear updates on the ministry opportunities and prayer needs, and input with guidance and care where we can. We are very pleased to have welcomed Rebecca Burgess, Andy Bradley, Rev. Phil Marsh, and Lorraine Carlton onto the Council over the last year, all representing four different churches across the area. We are grateful to have their input and wisdom within the team.

Recent research, launched within the last few weeks by British Youth for Christ (entitled ‘Z-A: Growing Spirituality’ ) mapped the growth in young peoples’ spiritual openness, their curiosity about prayer, and young people’s increased positive attitudes towards their local churches. Against this backdrop what a joy and privilege for our team to be encountering young people, having conversations with individuals – in schools, lunch clubs, or out-of-school contexts - spending time with them, answering questions, and connecting the Christian faith with their young lives.
In the midst of the many challenging cultural conversations and questions that our young people grapple with, the truth of the gospel has never been more needed. I loved reading of the Call of Joshua recently who, after Moses had died, was encouraged by God that the blessing was not just for Moses and previous generations, but that it was for him, for them, for all those in THIS time and season. Joshua needed to rise up to the call in Joshua 1 v 9, even with some doubt and trepidation, where the Lord God affirmed him and the challenge to ‘Be strong and very courageous. Do not be afraid. Do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”.
As we go into another year, we pray for Tasha and the team - that they will be reassured of God’s equipping, courage, strength, peace, and provision as we look to the many young lives we want to know of the transformational power of Jesus. Let us pray together that the team will know too that the Lord our God goes ahead of them to pave the way and together we may really make Jesus known in this time and season.
Every blessing and thanks, Rachael Heffer Chair of the N&D YFC Referral Committee
Schools work
Lunch Clubs
We currently run lunch clubs in 3 schools: Soham Village College, Newmarket Academy and Mildenhall College Academy. We are very thankful to have five volunteers from local churches supporting us to lead these clubs.
For most of the year, the Year 7 & 8 lunch club at Soham Village College has flourished, the students engage with the sessions and activities, having lots of fun and discussions. It has also been amazing to see the second lunchtime club at Soham Village College grow. It has changed since last year, and during this last term it has been a consistent group of girls, and they continue to invite friends to come along which has been so encouraging.
In October, we started a lunchtime club at Newmarket Academy. For the first 6 months, every week there we lots of new faces and lots of coming and going. We then started to see some regular faces, and currently have a little group that comes each week. It is a joy to welcome many students from Muslim families.
One of the girls who started coming along also attended Burwell Rock Solid for a few months, and her mum bought her a Bible.
The lunch clubs at Mildenhall Academy have also been going well. We have a group of regulars that attend each week, and sometimes new faces. There have been lots of discussions and questions around faith and the Bible. And a few of the students also started attending the youth Café at King’s Church.

St Christopher’s Red Lodge and Houldsworth Valley Primary Academy, Newmarket.
We provided some resources for the Year 6's to take away and use during their transition into their new school.
For St Christopher’s, we were able to partner with Alison Earl at Lightwave to deliver the lesson, continuing our partnership with them.
We met with 77 young people in total. This is a great opportunity for our team to meet the year 6's before they move into year 7 in September and offer a familiar face in their new school when they get there!

Comments from teaching staff
We are forever grateful to the impact that Newmarket YFC has on our community here at MCA. We would like to thank them for their assemblies and also their weekly lunch club that they run. Our young people are certainly more informed about faith as a result.
Richard Goodenough, Mildenhall College Academy
We have continued to have a positive relationship with Newmarket YFC at Mildenhall College Academy this academic year. YFC provide online assemblies which are linked to the weekly themes and are embedded into our Morning Meeting routines and watched by all Tutor Groups throughout the Academy. YFC run a weekly club in the library that is good to make links between school and the local community. In RE, YFC come in and deliver a variety of lessons within our curriculum. In the Autumn term in Year 7 we look at Christian parables and YFC deliver a lesson on the Good Samaritan (without Jerry’s rap this year!). We have also continued to develop our links by adding two new lessons into our Year 9 RE curriculum this year. One on what it means to be a Christian and how that authority in your life impacts what Christians do in their day to day life. The other is looking at crime and punishment and the concept of forgiveness. It is good that YFC can come in and present from a specifically Christian point of view and in Year 9, students are beginning to be wiling to ‘grill a Christian’ as they become more used to having YFC in and around MCA.
Ed Lowis, Head of RE at Mildenhall College Academy
Newday ‘24
In July 2024 we took 23 young people to Newday for a day. It was an amazing time; the sun was shining and little to no rain. The young people participated in the activities and games as well as engaging with the talks and seminars that
were on subjects like big issues, how to hear God, living by faith, life as an outsider, etc. The young people who came enjoyed the day and some who went last year are coming with us this year for the week.
Connect ‘25
Connect this year was a day event held on the 26th April 2025 at the Ark Church in Isleham. We had a good time as a team planning and running the day. There was a concern about numbers in the week leading up to the event, and we prayed for God to work. Amazingly, in the 24 hours before the event, we had some last-minute sign-ups to help us have a good day with 23 young people. Gwil from Norwich Youth for Christ came and shared a talk about relationships and who we are, and how we
treat others within our relationships. 3 young people shared a part of their faith story with the group. Volunteers from King’s Church Mildenhall and Lightwave Red Lodge both brought an activity and shared it with the young people, along with support from Fordham C3 Microsite, who catered for us. One key activity throughout the day was the free-to-use music equipment, which most of the young people gave a go at throughout the day, and there was always noise coming from the music corner.
Youth groups
Between Nov ‘24 - July ‘25 we have helped Burwell Baptist Church run their Rock-solid group. We had one volunteer from the church and another from All Saints Church, Newmarket. A group of girls who attended Rock Solid previously came back for a few months. One girl continued to come along regularly, and we did have a couple of new faces come along as well. At the start summer term, it was decided that due to low, inconsistent numbers Rock Solid would finish at the end of this academic year. Moving forward we are using a new Youth For Christ resource called ’Battle Plan’ to help Burwell Baptist Church pray as a church for the young people in the area and pursue a heart and vision for young people.
From January ‘25 to March ’25, we helped at King’s Church Youth Café every week until they found a youth worker. This was fun and great way of building connections and relationships with the church and with the young people in the local area.
On average there was 20 young people coming every week. Majority, if not all do not come from Christian families. It was great to see so many young people in the church and to hear that some of them even attend some of the church events like Messy Church and came to the Christmas and Easter services.
Some of these young people also came to the Connect youth event.
Fundraising Success
January’s quiz night was a great success, bringing people together for a fun and impactful evening. Our sponsored walk in May also went brilliantly—thank you to everyone who participated and supported these events. Your contributions make our work possible.
Volunteers
We have many long standing volunteers who we are extremely grateful for! During this academic year, we have seen many new volunteers come on board with the centre. We have had 4 new volunteers for school Lunch Clubs, we have had 1 new volunteer come on board to help with youth groups. We have had 4 new members of the Council Of Reference Committee. We are so grateful for the time and skills our volunteers give - our work would not be possible without them!
I loved the format of the youth leaders gatherings. I was only able to make it to one but came back feeling very excited about shared ideas, networks and support. Bringing people together to get the joined up approach is another area where YFC is making a big difference.
Rock Solid Volunteer - Kerenza
Firstly my thanks to Hannah for her patience and professionalism throughout what I think she would agree was a tough year in terms of numbers of young people. September to Christmas saw about 6 children, most of whom disappeared come the New Year for reasons unknown. We can only guess that school work played a large part. Since Christmas we struggled with numbers but the BBC has now adopted the YFC ‘Battle plan’ and look forward to how God wants to lead us regarding young people in the village.
As a helper I was pleased to follow the ‘expert’.
Trevor Wick Burwell Baptist Church
Prayer
Pause & Review
Throughout the year, we have continued to meet on the first Saturday of every month at 8:30-9am on zoom to pray together for the work of Newmarket & District Youth For Christ and young people in the area.
The centre have endeavoured to keep prayer at the heart of everything we do! Of course we pray at the start and end of meetings - additionally to this, the Exec team meet on alternate months to discuss ‘business’ and on the other month, we commit the time to prayer. We have continued to ‘pause & review’ at least twice this year as a wider team, to reflect on where we are going and how we feel the Lord is leading us. These times have been very special and fruitful.
We would love for you to join us! Look out for 25-26 dates
Treasurer report
2024 has been my fourteenth accounting year as YFC treasurer. I am greatly supported from the executive committee by Selina Jelleyman and Jane Culpin with CAF bank. At present, the accounts are away for audit with Richard Holloway and his report has just been received. He kindly gives his time and has completed this for the last ten financial years – a huge help.
This year saw our staffing situation settle with Natasha taking the reins and Jerry’s retirement. From April onwards, with staffing costs reduced once more, the centres finances gently recovered as we had hoped and planned.
Giving was slightly above our budget predictions, after lows in 2022 and 2023 this was a source of great encouragement, especially with uncertainty around a change of leadership and what it might mean for pledged support.
‘Correcting’ our income and expenditure for the private retirement gifts, collected and paid out in full to Jerry, which came through our accounts we had the lowest expenditure since I became treasurer in 2011. The overall effect gave us a £5400 surplus in the year, about 10% of our costs.
Sadly, we cannot rest in our efforts as above inflation increases in things like the minimum wage, insurances and events costs will continue to keep pressure to the centre finances.
Natasha is now in possession of a debit card for the centre to minimise the use of staff personal accounts and expenses reclaims for mundane or smaller purchases and to ensure on-line and telephone transactions can be undertaken – this is working well.
We have also launched a secure donation facility via our website, just intended for ‘oneoff’ gifts, to hopefully smooth the path for a new generation of supporters to engage with us. We ask that regular givers continue to use traditional on-line banking facilities to make gifts and ticket payments to the centre as it greatly assists with accounting.
All matters of expenditure are constantly subject to careful review and we use our supporter’s funds as sparingly as we can and are always happy to discuss any matters that may concern you, throughout the year.
Many thanks again, Nick Crawford

Findings of the review
• The working papers are well laid out, and adequate evidence could be traced for those transactions checked.
We are so grateful to you for your faithful support and generous giving to continue the work of Newmarket Youth For Christ
• The charity currently has cash reserves of just over £22,000. This represents just under five month’s average running costs and is more than last year. This is at higher level than previous years, which have typically been around 3 months.
• There are no other matters that should be brought to the attention of the trustees.

Newmarket and District Youth for Christ
Report to trustees on accounts for year ended 31 December 2024
Scope of review
I have been asked to review the accounts for Newmarket and District Youth for Christ (hereafter “N&DYFC”) for 2024. I have been provided with the following documents
-
Bank statements for account 00016302
-
A file of supporting documents for the transactions
-
A spreadsheet detailing the payments for each month
-
A spreadsheet detailing the receipts for each month
-
Salary details
-
A spreadsheet detailing cash holdings
I am a Chartered Accountant with 10 years experience in audit, and although not currently in a finance role have maintained sufficient skilled and knowledge to carry out this role.
Limitations of review
I have not been provided with a profit and loss statement or balance sheet, and so this review does not constitute an audit of the financial statements.
It would be impossible to assess whether all the amounts donated to N&DYFC have reached the bank account from the information provided, particularly in respect of cash donations. Cash donations recorded in the accounts make up a small proportion of overall donations.
Trustees should consider whether there are adequate controls are in place to ensure that money donated to the charity in cash is banked intact and in a timely fashion.
Conflicts of Interest
I am not aware of any conflicts of interest that would impact this review.
Work carried out
I have considered
-
the overall presentation of information
-
the overall pattern of expenditure
and compared this with general good accounting procedures and my knowledge of the operation of the charity
I have confirmed that
-
the starting and ending points for the year agree with the bank statements
-
the accounting records have been summarised correctly
-
for a sample of transactions there are sufficient evidence to support these transactions as being appropriate for the charity, and correctly described in the accounting records
Findings of the review
-
The working papers are well laid out, and adequate evidence could be traced for those transactions checked.
-
The charity currently has cash reserves of just over £22,000. This represents just under five month’s average running costs and is more than last year. This is at higher level than previous years, which have typically been around 3 months.
-
There are no other matters that should be brought to the attention of the trustees.
To the Trustees of Newmarket and District Youth for Christ
Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of ‘Newmarket and District Youth for Christ’ Trust
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 31 December 2024 as presented on the following page
Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention
Basis of independent examiner’s report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the next statement.
Independent examiner’s statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the 2011 Act and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the
-
accounting requirements of the 2011 Act
have not been met or
- (2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached
