BSAR operates as a member team of Lowland Rescue, and maintains relations with other membe teams in the local a rea. We work on behalf of Thames Valley Police. BSAR’s fnancial year is the calendar year but the AGM at which t rustees a re elected is typically held in February, so during the fnancial year 2020 two sets of t rustees were in ofce, the f rst until the February 2020 AGM and the second thereafter. ## **Section C Objectives an** d **activities** ## **Summa** r **y of the objects of the cha** r **ity set out in its gove** r **ning** d **ocument** “The relief of sickness and rp otection and rp eservation of public health, in particular by the provision of search and rescue assistance, f rst aid, event marshalling and safety cover, both March **2012** **TA** R 10 independently and in association with the full-time emergency services and other voluntary aid societies ”. ## **Summa** r **y of the main activities un** d **e** r **taken fo** r **the public beneft in** r **elation to these objects (inclu** d **e within this section the statuto** r **y** d **ecla** r **ation that** r **t ustees have ha** d r **ega** rd **to the gui** d **ance issue** d **by the Cha** r **ity Commission on public beneft)** Bucks Search & Rescue also known as BSAR is a registered charity 1073134 has six t rustees during 2020/2021 term, consisting the Chairperson, Vice Chair, T reasurer and the 3 other members who make up the Executive committee. Bucks Search & Rescue (BSAR) is a team of volunteers available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to support the emergency services. BSAR’s main role is to assist Thames Valley Police with vulnerable missing person searches across Buckinghamshire and to assist other Search and Rescue teams who a re afliated to Lowland Rescue (LR), in the surrounding counties. It is also available to t ravel further afeld should there be a national callout. BSAR is also available to assist other emergency services including Buckinghamshire Councils in the event of a major incident o r providing support during inclement weather. BSAR members a re t rained to a national standard and the team p rovides foot, bike, water, air and search management capability to assist the police in their search for high risk vulnerable missing people. In 2020 BSAR have responded to 38 incidents, as seen across most Lowland Rescue teams call out numbers have been down on p revious years due to the lockdown . During this exceptional year of a pandemic, BSAR helped manufacture and deliver PPE to f rontline healthcare staf; we supported other agencies by delivering toys and bedding for those in need; we p rovided food rf st responders on occasions of fooding. The T rustees a re thankful and hugely appreciative of the massive dedication and work undertaken by each and every member of the team. ## **A** dd **itional** d **etails of objectives an** d **activities (Optional info** r **mation)** You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on g rantmaking; - policy p rogramme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. ## Section D Achievements and performance March **2012** **TA** R 11 Section D Achievements and performance **Summa** r **y of the main achievements of the cha** r **ity** d **u** r **ing the yea** r Few could have expected at the start of the year that all of us would face the challenges and opportunities which p resented themselves as the year unfolded. - i) **Ou** r **People** M– embership has increased again in 2020, starting the year with just over 30 operational search technicians we qualifed all of our rt aining intake in a thorough, p rofessional and above all safe way despite lockdowns. We also attracted ra g owing number of applications f rom qualifed members of other teams wishing to become associate members. We ended the year with just over 50 operational search technicians and a healthy waiting list of those expressing an interest in joining us. - ii) **Ou** r **Inf** r **ast** r **uctu** r **e** – we took the opportunity to improve and refurbish our headquarters and acquired a second mobile incident control unit to give us wider coverage and more resilience. We also took the opportunity to improve our governance f ramework and also introduced r ro edrafted a number of policies and procedures to better underpin what we do. - iii) **Ou** r **Finances** – despite the very severe impact of the pandemic on our ability to raise funds we fnished the year in a healthy position with a surplus of £4,507 03. **,** partly due to a more structured approach to g rant and funding applications, but also due to events such as the inaugural C ross Bucks Challenge, which we now hope will be a regular fxture. At the close of the fnancial year we had increased our reserves which stood at £4,000, which is approximately 25% of the basic running costs per year. - iv) **Ou** r **Activities** – having regard to Charity Commission guidance on public beneft, our core activity remains supporting Thames Valley Police and/or other agencies and search teams in fnding high risk and vulnerable missing people in Buckinghamshire and neighbouring counties. Alongside that we have been a daptable and fexible to t ry and respond to any need for help that we can meet whilst remaining within our charitable objectives and meeting the public beneft test. In 202 BSAR also a dded Drone capability to the team, with 2 operational drones, 2 t raining drones, and a team of 12 pilots and observers. BSAR also increased its Water Floor Responders to 18, and ran a very successful internal 24hr fundraising event ‘Cross Bucks Challenge’.
