The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning its future activities. The main activities undertaken for the public benefit are the maintenance of The Sholver Millennium Green, and the holding of public events there for the benefit of the local community.

Section D Achievements and performance
## **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year**
During this year (1.4.2023-31.3.2024) the charity has made significant progress in both the development of the Green and in its usage for leisure purposes. Following receipt of a substantial grant (approx £30,000) new stretches of footpath were installed and some existing footpaths were repaired. The trustees identify the maintenance and installation of suitable footpaths as instrumental in the best use of the Green by the people of Oldham. This work will be completed in the next financial year. Additional improvement work to the Green, including the planting of trees and clearance of some invasive species, has been effected in particular by our partner charity, Life For a Life.
Arising from these improvements there has been an increased footfall on the Green, and this has been further encouraged by two successful open day events.
One of these has become an annual occasion, The Millennium Green Open Day, and the second was a sad but successful celebration of the life and tragically premature death of Rose Johnstone, a longstanding and devoted trustee, who dedicated her life to improving the lives of the people of Oldham, and of Sholver in particular. She is sadly missed and a memorial tree, provided by Life for a Life, has been planted on the Green in her memory.
During the year there have been successful and very effective mass litter picks, a community tree planting session and a balsam bashing day, all of which have involved significant contributions from volunteers from local community organisations. As a result the appearance of the Green has been improved and more attractive for young people, dog walkers, and other residents. The trustees do not have the resources to assess exact progress but there has clearly been a significant and noticeable increase in the use of the Green by residents.
Beneficiaries of our services
The beneficiaries of the charity are the residents of Oldham, and in particular those in the Sholver and Moorside areas who use the Green and share in the charity’s activities

## **Brief statement of the**
**charity’s policy on reserves**
The aim of the reserves policy is to ensure that the charity’s ongoing and future activities are reasonably protected from unexpected fluctuations in its income and expenditure. The board reviewed the reserves policy and agreed that a minimum level of unrestricted general funds, also known as free reserves, of £1000 is appropriate given the risks faced by the charity and the sustainability of its different income streams. Free reserves were £4311.

## **Report to the trustees of Sholver Millennium Green Trust**
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity for the year ended 31st March 2024 as set out on pages 7 to 8.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner**
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Act and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts under section 145 of the Act,
- to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement**
My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 of the Act; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Charities Act
have not been met; or
2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
