Trustses, Annual Report . September 2023 to August 2024
Goneral
This is the 2Vh year since The Notables was founded and a year without the inspirational
leadership of our founder & head trustee Margery Jones. She is often in our thoughts & sadly
missed. However, we continue in our quest to provide support and encouragement for people with
learning difficulties to meet-up with others, galn confidence and play a valued role in the
community. We do this by motivating our members, who have a natural love of music, to perform in
front of others, leam new skills and widen their social circle.
Actlvltlos
Our members contlnue to be able to meet-up as per normal on a Wednesday nlght and rehears8 at
Canley Communlty Centre. There were 37 of these sesslons held at Canley, under the guidance of
our musicians David, Grahame and Jon. In addition there were 27 occasions (ie outreach), where a
few of our members accompanied our musicians to go out into the community and perform I
entertain people viith access challenges including Leamington Fordsfield Day Care Centre,
Coventry Younity Hub, Strafford Ambleside Care Home, Brinklow Town Thoms Care Home,
Baglnton Flelds School Academy [Summer School] and Llfe Path at Henry Fry Deaf Cantre [every
other Friday].
We then had 8 bigger special events or gigs where ALL our members had the opportunity to sing,
perform and really let thelr halr down, once agaln supported by our professional musicians,
Including Coventry Enterprise Club for Disabled People, Rugby Drovers Care Home, Kenilworth
PHAB Club and Springfield House School Summer Fayre in Solihull [July 2024].
We hosted Special Guest Nights at Canley Community Centre for The Scratch Orchestra [Oct
2023], Kenilworth PHAB Club and drew a capacity audience of around 200 people to our Social
Inclusion l Autism Awareness l Multicultural Event at The Standard Triumph Club in August 2024
which was funded by The Heart of England Community Foundation as part of our succassful
Reachlng Communltles Project.
If anyone chooses to visit our website, they will observe positive feedback and a gallery that
reflects a diverse, inclusive and fun environment. Our WhatsApp Group, set up by Trustee Jullet, Is
Ilvely, Informatlve and a place we can all communlcate outside of rehearsals, glgs and outreach
events. Facebook, Instagram and Twitter also offer up to the minute information on our news and
booklngs.
Fundralslng & Flnance
Whilst the usual sources of funding were approached and as per usual these were generous once
again in terms of donations. Project Manager l Musical Director David Claridge was instrumental in
securlng a huge grant of £29,485 from The Heart of England Gommunlty Foundatlon effective from
May 2024. Our Treasurer, John Claridge handlgd thg budget and reported that this substantial
grant had effectively relieved pressures in terms of our running costs for about 9 months and
enabled a much greater amount of money to be carried over to start our 2024 12025 financial year.
The Heart of England Community Foundation have rated this project as excellent and nominated
The Notables to be one of be their featured charity organisations of 2025.

In return for generous donations to the Notsbles Charity, Notables DJS Dave & Helen gave their
time again for 'Dame Goodyvers Daye, [Sept 2023] and a fantastic Multicultural Ball at St. Mary's
Guildhall [Nov 2023]. Notables singer I volunteer Core O'Gare perfonned a heartfelt song tribute to
Margery at 'Dame Goodyvers Daye,, September 2023 and assisted with technical support for all
the musical and dance acts of the event attended by Coventry's Lord Mayor, other VIPS, Coventry
schools, community groups and a capacity audience of the public at Priory Gardens.
Other
From an organisational standpoint, because of bereavements and l or people leaving the area it
becomes increasingly necessary for us to update or replanish our trusteés. Mike Welch and
Pamela Franklin were welcomed as new Notables Trustees in 2023.
With aim to consistently keep all our members. musicians and volunteers safe (who's ages range
from 5 years old to go years old), Health and Safety Officer, Philip Blomberg [CMIOSH I PIEMA]
continues to provide advice and detailed risk assessments for all our actlvities. David completed
two days Team Teach training and Safeguarding training [for children, young people & vuln8rable
adults] in October 2023. Grahame is developing his work with the elderly In Warwickshire care
homes including standard training and new work with the therapeutic beneflts of music for the
elderly. Helen is consulted regularly for advice relating to her longstandlng work with Age UK.
accessibility for older people and has researched and identified new potential funders for the
Notables organisation moving forward.
We also greatly appreciate our dedicated taxi drivers l transport escorts, Gary, Dave and Wendy
