Woolston and Woolston Adventure preschools
Charity Commission Annual report for April 2019 – March 2020 AGM – December 2019
Objectives and activities
Woolston and Woolston Adventure preschool are a charity that provides high quality Early Years Education and childcare for local families. Our passion is Outdoor Learning we make full use of the settings geographical positioning, to enthuse our children to the awe and wonder of the world. Both settings are within a 20-minute walk of Weston Shore and within a 10-minute walk of woods. Forest school and beach school are sessions that we call Adventures, which all our 3 and 4-year-olds attend.
This year was the 2[nd] year of our holiday club run by a trained Forest School leader; children aged 4-8 attended sessions from 9 -3pm during the school holidays. 99% of children had previously attended our preschools.
Annual hands-on learning experiences
We have used Mill Cottage Farm Experience for several years; they visit both settings for a morning so that our children and their families can spend time with the animals in a relaxed environment.
June 2019 - Woolston preschool -£219.75 May 2019 – Woolston Adventure Preschool £319.50
Woolston Adventure preschool used Living Eggs . This is a unique 10-day chick hatching experience. They provide everything we need, including 10 Embryo Eggs, Custom Designed Incubator, Brooder Box, Feed & Bedding eggs.
April 2019 - £306.00
Additional setting
We were approached in February 2019 by a setting owner who was looking for a buyer for her business. The setting rented Bitterne Manor Community Centre and has a beach and woods on its doorstep, so aligned with our ethos and love of outdoor learning. After initial discussions and meeting with the Bitterne Manor Association, we hired Dinky Ones Consultation services to ensure that it was a viable business prospect.
During the consultation it was decided that Woolston Adventure Preschool would manage the business following Green Garden Childcare policies and procedures whilst it was closing down and we were waiting for our registration to go through.
We used our charity money to pay for the learning resources and toys to the amount of £9,995.00

Our new setting Nature Preschool opened on 1[st] July 2019, with our Forest School leader transferred to manage the new setting. At this time our own policies and procedures were introduced. The setting takes up to 18 children from 2-5 years.

Finances
This year we raised our reserves from £17,246.64 to £24,287.00.
Our wages remain high, we currently work over ratio so that we can have a ratio of 1:4 on our Adventure sessions. We also have a high percentage of SEN who need additional support.
Our fees remain as low as they can be for our families and we do not charge for any consumables.
Structure, governance and management
The committee remain stable with no changes but it was decided that we would start the process to change over to an ICO with trustees. We have hired Dinky Ones consultancy to take us through the process.
Our governing document: 2011 Constitution
How the charity is constituted: Association
We remain members of Preschool Learning Alliance who support us with 24 hr legal advice.
Future plans
Coronavirus -19
Our preschools have remained open to keyworker and vulnerable children throughout the pandemic and in line with National guidance. In the most recent lockdown preschools are open to all children. This is a worrying and challenging time for everyone. We are extremely proud of how our staff have pulled together, provided consistent care and a place of happiness for the children we look after. During the summer we arranged picture trails throughout the woods, did online videos and offered support to many parents. The future is uncertain for everyone, but we say with confidence that we are doing our best and are proud of the team. Obstacles such as staff illness, bubble closures and staff shortages due to personal commitments will continue to be a challenge and make the next year a concern.

WOOLSTON AND WOOLSTON ADVENTURE PRESCHOOLS Independent Accountants' Report For the year ended 31 March 2020
We report to the trustees on our examination of the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2020 Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (The Act)
We report in respect of our examination of the Trust's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out our examination we have followed the directions given by the Charity Commission under Section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Basis of independent examiners statement
Our examination was carried out in accordance with general directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters.
The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required for a full audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiners statement
We have completed our examination, we confirm there are no material matters having come to our attention in connection with the examination giving us cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
accounting records were kept in respect of the Trust as required by Section 130
-
the accounts do not accord with those records, or
-
the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a 'true and fair view' which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
We have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
