Trustees meet four times a year, one includes an annual general meeting. Special meetings are held as and when required. Day to day executive functions are discharged by the curator/manager in consultation with the chair, vice-chair, and the Hon. Treasurer. Trustee vacancies are proactively advertised in the local press, social media and through local heritage networks.
The museum trust was established in 1994 and the Haverfordwest Town Museum first opened to the public on 2 July 1996. The objectives of the museum are to preserve, record and interpret the rich history of Haverfordwest which stretches back over nine hundred years. The museum has a substantial collection of artefacts including archaeology, fine art, uniforms, photographs, and local manufacturers. Activities are very much focused on enhancing public knowledge of the past and providing opportunities for public enjoyment. Our work includes organizing talks, heritage walks, publishing articles, television works and engaging with wider museum partnerships. The core function is opening the museum to the public and curating displays.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic the museum has been closed to the public throughout 2020 and 2021. Therefore, the normal metrics of measuring our performance and assessing our achievements are not possible this year. However, we still clearly demonstrate the public benefit of our charitable activities by undertaking publishing of educational articles, providing information, answering queries, and continuing media contacts. There has been increased focus on cataloguing and documenting our reserve collection and reducing the backlog of this work. In conducting our purposes, we are mindful of the Charity Commissions public benefit guidance and we take this into account when making decisions, especially regarding the allocation of resources.
The audited accounts for 2020-21 are appended as a separate document to our return. We have undertaken a careful financial review and have been proactive in obtaining Covid-19 support grants as we sought to replace our lost earned income.
We are in a favourable and sustainable financial position and we intend re-opening the museum to the public again on Monday 11 April 2022.
