Siamese Cat Welfare Trust no. 1072366
Trustees’ Annual Report for the period 01/01/2022 to 31/12/2022
Period Start date 01/01/2022 Period End date 31/12/2022
Objectives and Activities
The trust provides or assists in the relief of suffering of Siamese Cats and cats of other varieties which may/have been kept as companions to said Siamese Cats which are old, sick, unwanted, abandoned, lost or distressed and to reunite lost cats with their legitimate owners.
We rescue, rehome and foster Siamese cats. All cats in our care, whether temporarily or permanently are vet checked, vaccinated, chipped and treated for any medical issues as necessary. If the cat comes to us entire, they are spayed or neutered as appropriate.
We will transport the cats as necessary across the country to their new homes. If the cat has an ongoing medical issue, but we believe they would be better off in a single cat household we will offer to pay their veterinary bills for the duration of their life.
Achievements and Performance
In 2022 the trust rescued and rehomed over 75 Siamese and Oriental cats. We rehomed the vast majority and have the rest (non-rehomeable owing to health or mental problems), as long-term foster cats with our trustees.
Many of our beneficiaries have been able to have a new Siamese cat in their household, from our rehoming. The happiness and enjoyment people gain from these clever, loving, manipulative and chatty felines is immense. We receive letters, emails and many photos, detailing and showing how much the beneficiaries and others gain from having them in their lives.
When we must collect cats from homes where the owner can no longer look after them, for a variety of reasons, the owners or their representatives, are often extremely grateful for the care they know will be given to the animal.
We received a bequest of £69,024 in 2022, from a person we have helped in the past.
Financial Review
The charity’s financial position at the end of the year is positive, although our investments were adversely affected in October 2022, by situations outside our control where we lost over £40,000 in a very short space of time. Advice was sought from True Potential Wealth Management at the time and the trust was advised that in the long term things should improve.
We keep a daily check on the current bank account to ensure funds to cover the expected annual costs are available.
We have reserves in our investments with True Potential Wealth Management. Our portfolio is closely managed and comprises Ethical funds only.
Structure, Governance and Management
The trust has a trust deed.
The charity is an unincorporated association.
We select our trustees depending on their wealth of knowledge of the Siamese breed or the task to be carried out. For example, the Treasurer Catherine Emma Howard is a retired civil servant who, when employed was a VAT Inspector for HMRC.
