## **`OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES`**

Educatingandassistingyoungpeople,inorneartheParishofStJohnandStStephen,through their
leisure-timeactivitiessoas todeveloptheirphysical,mentalandspiritualcapabilitiestotheendthatthey may
grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society, and that their conditions of life may be improved.

We define 'young people at risk' as those who exhibit one or more of the following indicators:

Possess a learning difficulty
Now or in the past a looked after child
Deemed beyond parental control
Homeless
Experimenting with drugs including alcohol and solvents

Having child-care responsibilities

## **`Charitable activities`**

We receivedfundingfrom NELC/HumbersidePolice to carry out an outreachprojecton Grant ThoroldPark from
July to September25. We set up tables and chairs by the MUGA and had staff availableto supportyoung people
eachweekdayfrom3pm-8pmthroughouttheweek.We wereinformedthatincidentsof ASBfell by 50% during
thisperiodandhavenotreturnedtopreviouslevelssince.Aspartofthisprogrammewedealtwithaninflux of
cheap gabapentin tablets apparently imported locally from India.
```

Anewissuethatcametotheforethisyearrelatedtoyoungpeopleonreducedschooltimetables.This meant
theirschooldayfinishesatmidday.Wenowopenadrop-insessioneachweekdaytosupportthese young
people,providingsnacksand a safe placefor themto attend.Thishas provedpopularand successful.The issue
oftheeducationsystemfailingwhiteworking-classyoungpeoplehasbeenhighlightednationally.We have
taken part in the debate locally and the project featured in a Channel 4 news programme dealing with this issue.

ThederelictareaonthecornerofRobertsStreet/RutlandStreethasbeentransformedwithfunding and
assistancefromEastMarshUnited.Itisnowanattractivegardenarea.Thecentrepieceisatreeplanted in
memoryof JP, one of our memberstragicallykilled in a motorcycleaccident.His motherand sisterattended the
planting ceremony.
```

333youngpeoplehaveaccessedtheCentrethisyear,plus98outreach.Wecontinuetorunourprogramme of
clubnightsforchildren5-18+andtheyareasbusyandpopularasever.Thisyearwewelcomedour 6000th
membersinceopeningforthefirsttimeinSeptember1972!Fundingremainsanightmareparticularlyas this
comingyear it seemswe will receiveno financialhelp withcore fundingfromNELCdue to the end of the UKSPF
Funding,despiteservingyoungpeopleatriskinoneoftheUKsmostdeprivedwards.Fundersseemto focus
theireffortson shorttermprojectsthatgenerategoodpublicity.Theonly problemis thatouryoungpeople are
notinterestedinsuchventuresandarereluctanttoengage.Sustainedlongtermrelationshipsarewhat is
needed - it is well nigh impossible to get this across to some funders.
```

The amountof reservesconsideringredundancycosts and three monthsoperatingcosts has been calculated as
£16,000.

Freereservesat31December2025were£22,101(2024:£15,452).Ofthis£12,000hadbeendesignatedby the
charitywithinits'reservespot'anditisintendedtoincreasethisby£2,000peryeartoensureavailable free
reserves are restored back to £16,000, funds permitting.
