SHREWSBURY EVANGELICAL CHURCH

ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE CHARITY COMMISSION for the year 2020

Regular Activities

We continued with our meetings for Public Worship twice each Sunday at Mereside Community Centre at 10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. until 22[nd] March 2020 when the first Covid-19 lockdown was introduced. Visitors were present at several of these services, some from outside the county and a typical morning congregation would have 30-35 people in the congregation. From 22[nd] March 2020 services were completely suspended until 26[th] July 2020 when Covid-19 restriction were relaxed.

Services since 26[th] July have taken place in a restricted format – only one service each Sunday morning, numbers limited to 30 people, masks to be work, singing has been suspended, and all relevant Covi-10 compliant measures were introduced and enforced. This format has continued uninterrupted since 26[th] July 2020.

Following the Covid-19 lockdown our midweek meetings (usually on a Wednesday evening) for Prayer and Bible study were replaced by Zoom meetings over the internet.

Other meetings for Prayer, Bible Study and Christian fellowship have been suspended since 22[nd] March 2020.

Our usual quarterly church meetings for church business were also suspended and replaced by a report from the Pastor of the church.

Young people’s activities and evangelistic work have also been suspended although a leaflet drop to the local housing estate did take place before Christmas 2020.

Finances

The Treasurer manages the finances. Funds are donated voluntarily by members, regular attendees and visitors. These funds were used for paying the minister’s salary and expenses, expenses for visiting preachers, rental of the meeting place and the support of several missionary societies.

There were no serious incidents to report.
