The Work and Ministry ofWFLT Background to our work in Manipur, Indi Manipur is one of the triba] states of the north-east of India and Covets an area of 8pproL 20.000 sq kni (about the size of Wales in the UK) It has a populknon of approx. 3 million (again about the size of that of Wales). and is predominately Christian th2nks to Welsh missionaries who carne to Manipur followmg the Welsh Revival of1910. Geographically. Manipur shares an unfenced border with Myanmarl Bunna thich was drawn up in the coloTJial era wtth little or no regard for the indigenous population (the Pemberton Line). Nonetheless, there has continued io be relatively free movement for locals lo cross the border for agriculture. trade. and to visit the other half of their families. Sadly, alongside this benign cross-Ix)rder traffic, high-grade heroin also comes into Manipur from Myanmar. Many young men in Manipur - without work other than agriculture or one of the few government Jobs - fa]1 victim to the drug which is highly add]'ctive. As a ￿su[t, they bring poverty and shame on themselves and their families and end up dests￿te 2nd sleeping on the streets. The Word for Life TnLSt operates its ARK ministy out of the Living Word Centre (LWC) in Churachandpur (Ccpur), close to the border. There are many drug addicts in Ccpur and no small number of commercial rehab centres. However. the ARK is the only rebab centre which wtll care for addicts free of charge. following a Christian model. The ARK and the nearby ARK Garden, offer a safe and loving environment in %thich to break a drug habit and to gel a fresh start in life. We are pleased to report that our rehab reg]me ha8 a low relapse rate for those who complete the 18 month rehab course. and that p&st ARK graduates regularly retum for reunions and to encourage those Siill undergoll￿ rehab. Tht ARK (Ccpur) Ever since Inth'a lifted lockdo1￿ restrictions in 2021. the gates of the ARK communitt.es in CCPur - both the Living Word Centre (LWC) and the ARK Garden - have been open to all those seeking help. As it has done for many years now. 2022 began the ARK Annual Sports Day. It's a lllghlight at the start of the year for all the ARK commu￿ty. AnotheF highlight of the early months of 2022 W&8 to hear of several brave new residents of the ARK v4ho were staykng the course during the hardest part of their recovery. The ARK continues to provide a safe place to seek freedom from drug dependency and grow as a disciple of Jesus. It is also a loving Chn"st12n family. COVID was still present in Ccpur towrL but ujfections were much less than before (and much les5 than in the UK at that time). allowed the d￿.]Y program at the ARK of worship. prayer, Bible study &nd fellowship to be open to the public without fear or hllM4rance. Outreach and home visits were also able to continue to those trapped in their addictions. Page 3

Word for Life Trnst Report of ibe Trustees and Financial Ststements For the Year Ended 31" December 2022 In the spring of 2022 there was a huge 4 week-long revival Crusade in CCPUT. led by a young evangelical Christian team from tbe neighbouring state of Mizoram. This attracted thousands of people to the town and every night the ARK family were able to be a part of It. After 18 months of lockdowi4 Stephen & Diki were again able to visit India between 3 to 30 August 2022, overcoming considerable visa and air travel dislocations. In the autumn of 2022 anotheT ARK reunion was hel(t welcoming back former ARKTes and pastoral team n]¢mbers. Folks came from all over Manipur. to worslmp, pray, and weep together and to catch up. They also shared a very special meal together that was sponsored by Stephen & Diki's home group in the U.K In September. after Stephen & Dikj s returo some petsonal events overtook them. As the UK gathered to observe the Queen's funeral, news came from CCPur that Diki's father had p&ssed away that morning. Robert -'Pa' _w&% 75 and had been poorly for some time. ￿'S funeral was held the following day. Although it w&8 not possible for Dikn. to be there physically. she wa8 able to join online to be part of all the proceedings. Stephen, Diki and family were especially thankfijl to Crt)d for their time with him during their August visit. Diki felt the loss of her father keenly, but w&8 heartened to see how much he was Roved and honoured at his funeral service by many from across the different groups, tribes and denominations. It tums out that Robert W&8 something of a bridge between communitses in the otherwise factlous town of Ccpur. Robert Was also the ARK'S honorary 'Grandf2ther'. The ARKies would often call upon him to help them oul bits of wisdom and tools then practical woik needing to be done. Some were even around his hospital bed caring for him as he passed away peacefully. The ARK UK Despite the pandemic, our dwectors. Stephen & Dikn" have not been furloughed but cnntinued to work fulltime to promote and build support for the ARK. and to Work together with the T￿leeS to enable ihe T[￿t to grow and be a"ble&smg and a help to the losL broken aThd rejecled ￿ both India and the UK. We still believe the Lord is leading us to establish an ARK UK a Christian community of worship, th"scipleship and healing. As the world moves out of lockdown we are praying for more opportunities to share our vision and gather more SUp￿rt and more supporters ("Partners- in- Vision") to See thi5 exciting mIn￿ty grow. Stephen's Theological Traininz In autumn 2022, WFLT Direcior. Stwhen Hawkins. began his final year of his Applied Theology course at Moorlands College. Dorset.
