Report of the Trustees

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 5 April 2023. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

Objectives and aims

The Charitable Trust operates under a Charitable Trust Deed dated 22nd January 1998 and registered with the Charity Commission on 7th August 1998 which included the regulations for appointment of trustees.

The Object of the Charitable Trust is towards the relief of sickness particularly of young children with special needs and for or towards any charitable object or purpose at such time or times and in such manner as the trustees may in their absolute discretion think fit.

Public benefit

The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in Section 4 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit. We have referred to the guidance in the Charity Commission's general guidance on Public Benefit when reviewing our aims and objectives and in planning our future activities. In particular, the Trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to the aims and objectives they have set.

Activities

It was during filming in March 2022 for BBC Morning Live Mr Motivator was first made aware bed poverty, an issue severely impacting children's development physically, emotionally, and educationally here in the UK, that is being further exacerbated by the cost-of-living crisis. It is well publicised that children shouldn't go to bed hungry but what about children who do not have a bed? It was estimated the 350,000 children go to sleep each night without a bed. At the time of writing this annual report, it is suggested that the figure is now closer to 1 million children. (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/bed-poverty-zarach-christmas-appeal-b2460200.html) Impassioned by this cause, Mr Motivator presented this to the trustees and the Trustees agreed that Mr Motivator's Charitable Trust would support, and sole focus would be on this charitable object.

During this reporting period the Trustee's have been researching, planning, and liaising with other agencies to develop a large-scale national awareness and fundraising campaign to be launched in 2024.

In setting our future objectives and planning our activities our Trustees have given careful consideration to the Charity Commission's public benefit guidance.

ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE

Movement is medicine so Mr Motivator's aim is to get everyone moving while raising awareness and funds to support his mission of ending bed poverty now! The income this period has been generated in two main areas:

- Exercise classes

Mr Motivator continues to hold several exercise classes every week live on Zoom, during the free classes he shares the work mission of his charitable trust and donation information should anyone wish to donate. The number of free classes has grown from 1 per week to 4 per week during this period. The classes are open to anyone to attend regardless of age, location, ability, or fitness. The Wednesday class especially is open to all and regularly is attended by members from Down Syndrome Association, and Parkinson's

- Appearances

Mr Motivator regularly receives requests to appear at events, festivals, TV shows etc. When an event is for a good cause or benefit to the health of the nation and they are unable to pay his fees, a donation to his charitable trust is suggested. The benefits to this are two-fold in that it creates awareness of bed poverty, yet still allows Mr Motivator to appear, benefiting of the health of the nation. On TV shows where there is a charitable donation or prize fund for a charity of their choice, Mr Motivator always appears on behalf of his charitable trust.

FINANCIAL REVIEW

Financial position

The Charitable Trust's work is entirely reliant on donations whether this be through the general public who attend exercise classes with Mr Motivator, appearances at events or via appearing on TV quiz shows.

Donations have increased over 210% on last year, this is largely due to winning Tipping Point: Lucky Stars prize money of £20,000.

Currently the trustees intend to limit expenditure in preparation for the launch of the campaign in 2024.

All trustees give of their time freely and no trustee remuneration was paid in the year.

Reserves policy

To limit expenditure and build reserves in preparation for the launch of the campaign in 2024.

STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity.

Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met at the year end date are noted as a commitment but not accrued as expenditure.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
