## **LLANGENNITH HALL AGM 2025** ## **Chair’s Report** Time is a strange thing, in someways it seems like only yesterday that we had our last AGM in others it seems like an age ago. My report differs from the Treasurer’s report in that it covers the year April to April rather than August to August. We started the year with new hope and new committee members and with the promise of a brighter future but things have remained mainly the same with our regular activities. The Egg Hunt last April was a successful and enjoyable event bringing in £236 profit for the Hall. Sadly, the beginning of May saw the death of Bill Counsell. Bill had been a stalwart of the Hall for decades. His contribution over the years to the upkeep of the Hall and its fund raising is unmeasurable. Thank you, Bill. Routine maintenance of the Hall continues weekly with the services of Andrew and our cleaners. We often get comments from visitors as to the looked after condition of the hall. We have also been helped with the cutting of the grass in the field and playground by John Davies and his larger machine. During the year Art club ceased and the Choir temporarily stopped. Other activities, Pilates, Yoga and Bowls have continued or in some cases increased. We were delighted to see the restart of the Film Club in November and wish them continued success. We have had a new activity start at the Hall, a Drama Group for young people on a Saturday morning. This led to a wonderful Gower Talent Show in August. The profits from this event were donated to the hall in return for them using the Hall without charge. A local artist Faye Sheel, has run Lino Print workshops at the hall and generously donated both cards of the village and Christmas cards for us to sell in aid of Hall funds. The Gym remains a good source of income and activity at the hall, albeit that it is probably underused, membership continues to be around forty with additional temporary members joining for periods in the summer. Our other mainstays have been our markets during the year and the Hall Draw with over 200 members now taking part. October saw a Ceilidh and Halloween excitement in the Hall. Sadly, high winds and no electricity caused the cancellation of our Christmas Fayre at the beginning of December but did not stop us providing the Village Christmas Tree on the Green or the return of James Kirby, “Coming home for Christmas again” which raised a little over £700 for the hall. With some regret, Jan as Treasurer, and myself as Chair gave notice in December of our intention to standdown at this AGM. We came back to the committee two years ago with some energy to help keep things running at the hall, but again, what we hoped would be a hobby which we could enjoy, turned into a commitment and responsibility, like a job which was becoming the focus of our activities. We have slipped back into being preoccupied by life at the Hall. We are convinced that the only way forward is for responsibilities to be shared between people who have both the interest and the time availability to do so. Our sincere hope is that this can be achieved. Steve Rimell Chair April 2025 ## **Treasurer’s Annual Report 1[st] September 2023 - 31[st] August 2024** I will start with some good news. This past year has shown a surplus of £7,423.39. This is mainly due to some excellent fundraising efforts. As you will see on the annual accounts we received over a thousand pounds from both the Talent show and James Kirby concert, along with record receipts of over £2,700 from the three markets and the Egg Hunt. Obviously there were expenses in these figures amounting to £883 which you will note on the accounts under expenditure. Hire of the hall has also increased this year to nearly £6,000 from £4,300 last year. Receipts from the Gym are also up by £2,500 due to membership increasing to around 40. Members pay £20 per month by standing order. Temporary membership from visitors has also increased. We have had the benefit of interest of £1,355 on £40,000 invested in the Charity Bank. An additional £10,000 has been invested in February 2024 at just over 4.8%. FIT payments from our solar panels continues to be a valuable source of income at around £2,500. The Hall draw brought in a net of £790 – there was some overlap from the previous year. Our broadband/wifi costs were almost nil this year due to BT failing in their service and compensation of £209 being received and £272 being paid out in monthly rentals. A grant of just over £100 was received from the Community Council for the provision of new lights for the village Xmas Tree. If we move to the right side of our accounts. For a comparison our total expenditure this year was just over £21K as opposed to last year of £24.5K. The investments made last year in new CCTV and alarm system and cut of Gym circuit sessions have resulted in cuts to our overheads. Our biggest expense is the upkeep of the hall at just over £7,000. We pay Andrew Thomas nearly £5,000 for his one day a week to keep on top of the continual hall and field maintenance. We also owe our thanks to John Davies who gives the grass regular cuts with his larger mower on a voluntary basis and Steve who regularly uses the smaller mower to tidy things up. Our Electricity fixed rate came to an end last June and subsequently the new fixed rate is nearly double the old one so our Electricity cost will be much greater this year. Marie Bruce, our Gym instructor continues to carry out Inductions for new members and is paid £10 for this and carries out one Circuits session per week at a rate of £45. This amounts to an annual payment of £2,500 - £3,700 last year. Our premise and gambling licenses remain the same cost along with payment to Preforming Arts. Public liability and Buildings insurance was reduced this year by £400 mainly due to the added security of CCTV installed. Maintenance of fire extinguisher and annual charge for intruder alarm is down at £325. This is due to investing last year in a new intruder alarm with much lower annual maintenance. The hall is cleaned on a weekly basis and amounts to £1,329.14 including materials. Other expenses of a Bench in memory of Bill Counsell, Xmas tree lights etc you will see listed amount to £670. I hope I have explained the accounts in enough detail but if any one has any questions I will do my best to answer.
