The trustees present their report and financial statements of Ihe charity for the year 8nd8d
31 March 2021. The trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended
Pr8clice (SORP) "Accounting and Reporting by Charities" (FRS102) in preparing the annual
financial ststements of the charity,
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set
out in th8 notes to the accounts and comply with the charity goveming document, the Charities
Act 2011 and Accounling and Reporting by Charilies: Ststement of R8comm8nded Practice
applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting
Standard appli¢2ble in the UK and Republic of Ir8land Published in October 2019 (second
edition)

The charity's objectives are the provision and developmenl ot tacilitses and services without
the distinction of race. ethnic origin. national origin, nationality, colour, sex, physical or mental
disability, r61igious or other options for the educational and recreational Pufposes of children
and young people resident in the West of Leicester(spe¢ifically the Woodgatè, Tudor Road
and Newfoundpool areas} for which they have need by reason of Ih8ir youth. social or
economic circumstances.
Public Benefit Statement
The trustees have considered the general guidance on public benefrt issued by the Charities
Comrnission and has tsken due regard of that guidance. The trustees consider they are
satisfied that the charitls activilies do provide a wide public benefil.

With limited resources and difficumies obtaining additional tunding. it has continu8d to be
difficult to plan especially with COVIO-19 disnJpting the ¢harity. The Charity with sound financial
management and tho support of the staff team and Management Committee members
have no deficit to cerry over.
The principle funding sources for the tharity are currentiy by way of granl funding
through Lei¢ester City Counc41, NEG and Children in Need lo enable the charity to promde play
support. As a result of constraints. th8 charity will naed to look for additional sourc£s of funding
to provide increased sèrwces in future years.
During the year. the charity made a surplus of £14,181 {2020.' deficit £10,826)
The trustees have examined the chariws requirements for reserves in light of the risks to
the organisation. It has established a policy whereby the reserves from this c¥Jming year will
be invested in a high deposit account. The present18V81 of reserves ar8 a little low bul the
organisation is seeking to raise this by seeking addilional funding from other sources.
Plans for Future Periods
The ch8rily plans to o)ntinue the activities outlined above in the forthcoming years subjecl
to Ihe continuance of satisfactory funding arrangemenls.
Structure Governance and Mana
ement
The organisation is a chantable company limited by guarantee. incorporated on 2nd April
1998.
Under a Memorandum of Artides which established the objects and powers ot the
haritable company and is governed under ils Arlicles of Association In the event of the
company being wound up. mefflbets are required to contribute an amount not oxcoeding £10.
The trustees have conducted a review of the major risk5 which the charity is exposed to.
Appropriate systems and procedures have been established to mitigate Ihe risks that the
charity faces.
Intemal control risks are minimised by the implernentation of a financial policy and pro￿dure
for authorisation of all transactions within the project.

Procedures are in place to ensure Complian￿ with health and safety of staff, volunteers,

The charity is now routinely monitored by the City CounLils play development otficer for all
quality delivery and operdtional aspects of the charity. These prO￿dureS are periodically
reviewed to ensur8 that they ￿ntinUe to meet the needs of the tharity.
The prcject currently has 4 trustees who meet every month and are responsible for the strategic
directlon and policy of th8 charity. The trustees come from a variety of professional backgrounds
relevant to the work of the charity.
The manager is also responsible for ensuring that the charity delivers the services specrfiad,
th8t key performance indicators are met and th8 day lo day operational rnanagement
of the project. Tha manager has responsibility for the individual supermsion of the staff
team and also ensuring that the team continue to develop their skills and worklng practices
in line with good practice.

In so f8r as it is complirnentsry lo the charltys objectives. charity is guided by both
local and national policy At a natlon81 level the project Is steered by the green paper regarding
every child matters and its iegulalor Ofsled and within Ofsted's guid81ines and recomrnendations.

a Goneral information and basis of preparation
Woodgate Adventure Playground is a registered charity in England and Wales and also
a company limited by guarantee. In Ihe evenl of the charity being wound up, the liability in
respect of the guardnl88 is limited to £10 per memb8r of the Charity. The address of the
charity's head office is given on page 1 of these financial stslements. Th9 nature of the
charilvs obj8CtiV8s and principal activities detailed on pag8 2 of these financial statements.
Th8 charity constitutes a public b8nefit entity as defined by FRS 102. The financial statements
have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement
of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in acLordanc
with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland issued
in October 2019, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the United Kingdom and
Republic of Ireland {FRS 102), the Charits'es Act 2011, the Companies Act 2006 and UK
Generally Accepted Accounting Practice.
The charity has applied Updated Bulletin 1 as published on 2 February 2016 and does nol
include a cash flow slatement on the grounds that its totsl incoming resources 15 below

The financial statements are prepared on a going cOn￿M basis under the historical cost
convention, modrfied to include certain items at fair value where considered necessary. The
rinancial statements are presented in sterfing which is the functional ¢urren¢y of the charity
and rounded to the nearest pound.

Unrestricted funds a￿ available for use at the discretion of Ihe trustees in furtherance of the
general objectives of the charity and vthich have not been designated for other purposes.
Designated funds comprise unrestn'cted funds that have been set aside by the trustees for
particular purposes. The aim and use of each designated fund is sel oul in the noles to the

b Funds (Continued)
Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions
imposed by donors or which have been raised by the charity for particular purposes. The
cost of raising and administering such funds are Charged against the specific fund. The aim
and use of each r8Stricted fund is set out in the notes lo the accounts.
c Income recognltlon
All incoming resources ar8 induded in the Stslement of Financial Actiwties (SOFA) when the
charity is legally 8ntitled to the income after any perfom)anc8 of conditions have been met,
the amount can be measured reliably and it is probable that the income will be receiv8d.
For donations lo be recognised Ihe charity will have been notified of the amounis and the
settlement date in writing. If there are conditions attached lo the donats'on and this requires
la￿1 of performance before entitlement can be oblained then income is def8rr8d until
those conditions are fully mel or the fulfilment of those conditions is within the control of the
charity and it Is probable that they will be fulfilled.
Donated facilities and donated professional Senri￿s are recL)gnised in incoma at their fair
value when their economic ￿nefit is probable, it can be measured reliably and the charity
has control ov8r the ilem. Fair value is delermined on the basis of the value of the gift to
the charity. A corresponding amount is recognlséd in expenditure.
Where practicable, gifts in kind donated for distribution to the beneficiaries of th8 charity are
included in sto¢k and donations in the financial statements upon receipt. If it is impracticable
to assess the fair value at receipt or rf the costs to underiake such a valuation OU￿e1gh any
benefits then the fair value is recognised as a component of donations when it is distributed
8nd an equivalent amounl recognised as charitable expenditure.
Fixed assets gifts in kind are recognised when receivable are induded at fair value. Théy
are not deferred over the life of the asset.
For legacies, entitlement is the earlier of the charity being notified of an impending distribution
or the legacy being re￿ived. At this point income is recognised. On occasion, legacies will
bè notified lo the charity however it is not possible to Measure the amount expe¢ted lo be
distributed on Ihese occasions. the legacy is Ireated as a contingent assel and disclosed.
Income from trading aclivities includes income earned from fijndraising events and trading
activities to raise funds for the charity. Income is received in exthange lor supplying goods
and services in order to raise funds and is recognised when entitlement has occurred.
Investment income is eamed through holding assets for investment purposes such as interest.
Interest income is recognised using the effective interest method. Any diwdend and rent
income is recognised as the chariWs right to receive payment is established.

All expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been dassified under
headings that aggregate all costs related to the r2tegory. Expenditure is rerx)gnised where
there is a legal or constructive obligalion lo make payments to third parties. it is probabl8
that Ihe selllemenl will be required and the amount of the obligats'on can b8 measured
reliably. It is categorised under the following headings:

They are incurred dirèctly in support of expenditure on the objects of the charity.
Fundraising costs are those incurred in seeking voluntary contributions and do not indude
the Costs of disseminating infomiation in support of the charitable aclivits'es.
