Corporate Donors and Volunteers

The trustees would like to thank everyone who has supported them throughout the year, in particular those members who organise and help out at events. These events are fun for everyone but take a great deal of work behind the scenes, and would not happen if it wasn’t for the dedicated parents and staff who give up their time to ensure that we raise money and community spirit for the school.

Financial Review

The academic year 2022/23 has proved to be a successful year with gross fundraising and events returning back to pre-pandemic levels. The total gross amount raised this year was £26,238 (21/22 £21,560), with a gross profit of £19,173 (21/22 £16,577) and a net profit of £18,915 (21/22 £16,303), although slightly below the fundraising target of £22,200 set by the school.

The biggest events remain to be the Christmas Fayre £5,550 (21/22 £4,991), May Fayre £4,689 (21/2 £4,051) and the July BBQ £1,632 (21/22 £1,475).

Other notable successes were the January Disco and the sale of Coronation Tea towels raising £1,041 £1,028 respectively. The Masked Reader which was a new idea that proved to be very popular with the children along with Fruity Fridays which almost doubled its takings vs last year due to the hot weather.

Other new ideas were less successful, such as the Summer Ball, which was cancelled due to low ticket sales, resulting in a loss and Easy Fund Raising has almost disappeared.

Grants issued to John Hampden School have been used to buy additional resources as set out at the AGM. Overall spend was lower than planned, £15,802 vs £22,200, with more money being spent on critical classroom resources and books while deferring larger spend on playground equipment to the next academic year.

The schools wish list for the next academic year 23-24 is as follows:

The trustees are confident that the targets set for the next academic year 23/24 are achievable with the help from grant applications. With the introduction of a few new events, such as Christmas Wreath making and a Quiz night, fundraising should remain consistent with this year’s results. This will aid the grant applications process as the committee will be able to demonstrate that amounts being requested can be matched funded through our fundraising efforts. Potential benefactors include: Wendover and Villages Community Board, The National Lottery Heritage Fund and The Lionel Abel Smith Trust.

Reserves policy and Reserves

The policy of the charity is to maintain unrestricted reserves, which is cash available at a level which equals the amount of capital needed to cover the charity’s outgoings and to set up and organise a fundraising event (approx. £3,000).

The funds in excess of those held in line with the reserves policy, which totaled £14,980 at 31 August 2023, are expected to be utilised to support the charity’s objectives during the next year.

Approved by the trustees on 18[th] September 2023 and signed on their behalf by:

Natalie Sullivan Treasurer
