SAWLEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

TRUSTEE’S REPORT Y/E 2023

Charity number: 1069982

Address: Sawley Community Hall Draycott Road Sawley Nottingham

Charity structure :

The Sawley Community Hall is owned and managed by the Sawley Community Association (registered charity) a group of volunteers living in or around Sawley. Management is undertaken by the Committee (Chairman, vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Letting Secretary, general Committee Members) with subCommittees set up from time to time to address specific issues. The management and maintenance of the Hall is funded entirely from letting fees, grants and fundraising activities with no Council or other funding.

Activities & objectives :

The Association was established to provide and manage a facility for the benefit of the inhabitants of Sawley and surrounding area.

There are currently several groups who regularly use the Hall across all age groups and interests, eg children’s dance classes, table tennis, Disabled group, Infra Red Arts groups. The Hall provides a venue for private parties and other events (eg quiz night, carol service, stage productions), as well as regular craft and gift fairs.

Achievements & performance :

Bookings and footfall through the Hall continued to be stable throughout 2023, however due to financial reasons and their links with Sawley School the Sawley Before & After School Club (SB&ASC) decided to move their base into the school premises. The Club had used the Hall since it’s inception in 2007 and as such had made a significant contribution to the income. However, the Committee are confident that the gap can be filled and extend the usage to a wider audience.

The success of the move to the Hall by the Breaston Flower Circle was reflected by their increased membership and change to become the Breaston & District Flower Circle which culminated in a very successful fund-raising event.

Following the installation of CCTV the problems with anti-social behaviour outside the premises had ceased. The committee continued to maintain the upkeep of the Hall through general maintenance and repairs.

The Hall continues to serve the local community by hosting several events during the year including the Sawley Park Family FunDay and Christmas lights switch-on.

Financial review :

The annual financial review was undertaken in May and although booking income continued to be stable, with the continuing increase in utility costs, rental rates were increased from September. This was implemented and income/outgoings continues to be monitored on a quarterly basis. Grant donations were received for replacement chairs and external notice board and new fire doors. Overall the balance remains within the limit set by the Management Committee.
