SAWLEY COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

TRUSTEE’S REPORT Y/E 2022

Charity number: 1069982

Address: Sawley Community Hall Draycott Road Sawley Nottingham

Charity structure :

The Sawley Community Hall is owned and managed by the Sawley Community Association (registered charity) a group of volunteers living in or around Sawley. Management is undertaken by the Committee (Chairman, vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, Letting Secretary, general Committee Members) with subCommittees set up from time to time to address specific issues. The management and maintenance of the Hall is funded entirely from letting fees, grants and fundraising activities with no Council or other funding.

Activities & objectives :

The Association was established to provide and manage a facility for the benefit of the inhabitants of Sawley and surrounding area.

There are currently several groups who regularly use the Hall across all age groups and interests, eg children’s dance classes, table tennis, Sawley Before & After School Club, Disabled group, Infra Red Arts groups. The Hall provides a venue for private parties and other events (eg quiz night, carol service, stage productions), as well as regular craft and gift fairs.

Achievements & performance :

All groups had returned to the Hall by the beginning of 2022 and private bookings (eg children and adult parties) ensured that the Hall was being used close to capacity. A review of cleaning standards was undertaken due to unsatisfactory performance by the contractor and a new company was engaged partway through the year. On-going maintenance and fire assessment improvements continued and new front doors were installed. In addition an upgraded lighting and audio system was installed offering a state of the art facility for users wishing to use the stage. Unfortunately there were a number of incidents of anti-social behaviour whilst the Hall was occupied and a decision was made to install CCTV cameras and wi-fi for which a successful grant application was made to fund this.

The Breaston Flower Circle moved to use the Hall as their main venue bringing new users to the Hall and there were general community events hosted throughout the year ie Queen’s Jubilee celebration, Sawley Park Family FunDay and Christmas lights switch-on.

Financial review :

The Association had a full year of pre-pandemic activity and consequent income and costs. Total outgoings were slightly higher than income, due to increased cleaning and utility costs and this will be monitored during the next financial year. Overall the balance remains within the limit set by the Management Committee.
