The Bartle Family Charitable Trust

Trustees’ Annual Report Year Ended 31 December 2024

General Information

The Bartle Family Charitable Trust is constituted by a declaration of trust dated 3 March 1998 and is registered with the Charity Commission, charity number 1069927. The charity's address is 214 Amersham Road, Hazlemere, High Wycombe HP15 7QT.

The charity is administered by the trustees through their Solicitors, Michelmores LLP.

The trustees who served during the year were: Mrs P A Bartle Mr J Bartle CBE Mrs J M Wraith Mrs S Walters

The objects of the charity are wide and the charitable activities of the trustees are carried out by making grants to other charitable institutions.

The trustees have regard to and comply with the Charity Commission public benefit guidance by making grants to organisations which benefit the public.

New trustees are appointed by the existing trustees.

Financial Summary and Review of Financial Position at the Year End

For the year ended 31 December 2024, the charity reported a net income deficit of £3,346 (2023: deficit of £34,108). Grants payable totalled £51,000 (2023: £54,500). There was loss of £519 on quoted investments (2023: gain of £68). Overall, the total funds of the charity decreased by £3,865 (2023: decreased by £34,040).

As at 31 December 2024, the charity had total charity funds of £37,693 (2023: £41,558). The original revaluation reserve has been amalgamated with the unrestricted funds, given that the Trust no longer holds fixed investments. Income carried forward reflects donations made by Mr J Bartle for making grants.

The main achievements for the year include making grants to the organisations listed in note 2 to the accounts.

By a declaration of trust dated 26 May 2023, Mr Bartle transferred 145 shares in Findlay Park Funds ICAV American Inc (USD) (equating to c.£19,585.35) to the charity.

By a declaration of trust dated 03 June 2024, Mr Bartle transferred 945 units in Janus Henderson Global Technologies Leaders Fund (equating to c.£49,905) to the charity.

The Charity was subject to a banking scam in December 2023 where £20,503.36 was withdrawn fraudulently. Metro Bank investigated the fraud and agreed to refund the full amount on 12 January 2024 (case reference SCA11285048). This was refunded in full during the year.

Reserves Policy

It is the policy of the trustees to distribute the majority of trust funds, both capital and income, retaining only a small reserve. The trustees are aware that they cannot support the current level of donations unless further funds continue to be added. There were additional funds added by John Bartle during the year towards fees of £3,303.00 (2023: funds added totalled £3,760.10).
