The Charity is an organisation governed by a Constitution dated 1 August 1997.

The Management Committee may consist of up to 11 Trustees/members at any one time, and meets four times a year.

Objects & activities

The objects of the organisation are to relieve poor, sick, elderly or disabled persons in Westbury, Wiltshire and adjoining parishes, by providing or assisting in the provision of services calculated to reduce the need, hardship or distress of such persons.

The aim of the charity is to provide transport for clients to attend medical and related appointments, and Good Neighbour support when needed.

Achievements & performance

The current focus is on providing transport due to an increase in demand and lack of available public transport. In 2024/2025, a total of 2,474 journeys were undertaken, and 47,184 miles covered . Good Neighbour tasks such as shopping and visiting friends and family are also included.

Financial position and reserves policy

Reserves at 31 July 2025 stand at £23,510. The Trustees’ policy is to maintain a balance of a minimum of £21,000, which equates to 9 months’ average expenditure.

The Charity’s main source of income is donations from clients who use the services provided. It also receives occasional bequests.

Expenditure is mainly on mileage claims paid to volunteer drivers, at the HMRC approved mileage rate of 45 pence per mile. Other expenditure is on running costs for the organisation and small donations to other charities whose objectives align with those of Westbury & District Link Scheme.
