The prinupal ofyect of the Trust is Ihe support of such charitable purposes connected wli h Ihe Cathedral and
the Dean and Chapter as the Trustee5 shall from time to Illne in their absolute discretion d￿eM)in￿..

published by the Chanty cummis￿on relatirNJ to pubSc benefft, including the guiolanco 'Publbc benefit running a
charity (PB2)'.

Maln achlevements of the Tn
The Trust was estsblished on 2S March 1998 and has been the recipient of funds raised by an appeal campaign
promoted by the Ch4)ter of Now4￿ch Cathedrl for restoralv)n and development WO￿ on the Cathedral. The
campaign target was £10 mil￿On and it was announced in May 2007 that the total of donations received and
pledged had reached this target. This achievement was mae ￿￿￿b]e through the hard work of a Campaign
Ex8CUtive and the generosity of many.
Building WO￿ in relation to the first phase of the overal development. namety the Refectory and Library
extension, tegan in September 2003. and the new facilities were oper￿d al Easter 2004 to great acclaim.
Following the cc#npletion of extensive ￿haeOlog￿l excavations, buil¢ting of the second phase of the project.
the Hoslry, commenced in February 2￿8 was compieled in Novemter 2009. The Hostry, alongside the
West Cloister. n¢)w prO￿deS much needed educatiortal. visitor and communal facilitie5 a5 well as a dedicated
Song Schts)I forthe Cathedral Chc￿r5.
The new buildings were formdty tyened by HM The Queen and HRH The Duke tsf Edinburgh on 4 May 2010
after a Service of Thanksgniing in the CathedtaL The new buddings are now extensively used and have
eonsiderabty enhanced the Calhedrai's mi8Ston and OLrtreach.
The woth of the Trust continues with supwt for prciects inrtiabj by the Dean Ch8Pter. During 2020121 thls
has focused on 'They Shall Laugh & Sing, _ The Noywtch Cathedral Music Appeal. The Appeal seeks to raise
£2,500.000', £1.800,000 for the refurbishment arKI rebuikthg of the Organ and £700,000 to support the Boy and
Girl Choristers.
The Trust beneffled from the second tranche of a £1.000.OLY) (b)nalion OV￿ four years. Th[5 wa5 r￿eNed via
the Chapel and York Foundation in Arn￿le& Trustees are indebted lo ￿ individual donor in the United Stales
fortheir kindness ￿K1 generosity in supwtirrfJ Norwith Cathedral.
During the course of the yaar, the Trust receNed a generous lega￿ of £100.000 frijm the eslale of the late Nigel
and Eileen Bumphrey. Nigel and 6leen were for mary years sta￿vart membets of the C*hedral congregation
and also played a strong part in the lrfe of Ihe wder D￿ese of Norwich- Nigel as Diocesan s￿Ver Advisor and
Eileen as DK)cesan Textiles Admsor. Their executor instructed £50.OLIO to go to the Music Appe81 and £50,000
to go towards purchasè of sifver and textiles for Ihe Cathedra. GNen Nigel and Eileen's key interest Mi these
areas, this is very fitting and w(wk is in hand lo provide wlver medallicrfB for the Girfs, Choir H8ad Chori5ter5 and
among81 other things. a new sÈt of white vestrnent&
The Dean and Chapter remain indebted to Ihg trustees for their genercAJS supwrt help and guidance with a
number of aPpl￿tionS to Chanlable Trusts. *tÈich helped secure the funduig for this project.

After making appropriate enquiries, the Trustees have a reasonatle expectation that Trust has adequate
resources to continue in c>peratIor￿ e￿$tenCe for the foreseeable future. For this reason, they continue to adopt
the wing concem basis in preparir¥J the finarKial statements.

Plans forfuture periods
In December 2017. the Dean and Chapler kaunthed They Shall Laugh & &ng - The Ncfimch Cathedral Mus
Appeal. HRH The Earl ofwessex is Patron ofthe Appeal.
The Cathedral Organ. ￿thIch was w￿led in 1899. haj its last major rebulld SO￿ 75 years ago in 1942. Dean
and Chapter have chosen the rerv)wned organ builders Harrison and Harrison of Durham to undertake the
rebuild. Work to disrnantle the organ and remove to DurhaTll wll comrnen￿ in 2022. It is antiupaled that the
organ will then be rebuiK ¢M sile after Easter 2023. wlh voung and coMp￿10N of the rebuild by late summer
2023. A m8jor Organ Festiwal is planned for 2024.
Al Easter 2021 it was annOU￿ed that the Appeal had re&hed its target of £2.500,000. This was a major
achievement, especially gNen the COVID pandemic, but shcAved real delemiinalion, as undertaken during World
War 2 when the organ was last rebuilt. The totsl funds are held by the drfferent constituent fijndraising amis of
Norwich Cathedral., the Dean and Chapter, Friends of C*hedral, NorvKh Cathedral Trust and the
Norwich Cathedral Choir Endowment Fund. These b(MJies have worked dosety tc4Jelher under the direction of
Ihe Dean and Chapter lo achieve thts tsoeL All fwr bodies ara indebted lo the generosity of the many indmdual
don￿$ and charIlab￿ trusts an(1 fourthtions who ha￿ kindly supported the hrtus￿ Appeal.

Accountlng pollcles
2.1 Basls of PTeparation of financial statements
The financial statements have been prepaied in ?￿OrdanCe with the Ch2rftieg SORP (FRS 102) -
Accounting and Reporting by Charities- Stslemenl of Recommended Practice applicable lo charities
preparing their accoun15 in accordance with the Financial Repgrting Standard applicable in the UK
and Republic af Ireland IFRS 1021 leffeclive 1 January 2019). the Financial Reporting Slandard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) and the Charities Act 2011.
The financial slalements have been prepared to give a 'lrue and fair, view and have departed from
the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 only to tha 8Xtént required to provide a Irue
and fairf Maw. This departure has involved following the Charities SORP IFRS 1021 published on 16
July 2014 rather than the Accounting and Reporting by Charities.. Statement of Recommended
Practice effective from 1 April 2005 which has since been withdrawn.
NO￿l¢h Cathedral Trust meets the d8finilion of a public benefit entity under FRS 102. Assets and
liabilities are inillally recogni8ed at historic81 cost or transaction value unless othervrfise slated In the
relevant accounting policy.
2.2 Income
All income is recagnised once the Tiust has entiuemenl to the income, it ts probable Ihal the income
will be recewed and the amount of inco￿￿ recewable can be measured reliably.
The recognition of income from legacies is dependent on establishing entitlement, the probability of
receipt and the abilty to estimate with sufficient accuracy the amount receivable. Evidence of
nlitlement to a legacy exists when the Trust has sufficient emdence that a gift has been left to them
(through knowledge of the existence of a valid will and the death of the benefactor) and the executor
is salisfied th* th& property in question will not b8 required to satisfy claims in the estate. Receipt of
legacy must be recognised when it is probable that it will be received and the fair valuè of the
amount receivable, which will generalty be the expected cash amount to be distr*uled to the Trust.

2.3 Expenditure
Expenditure Is wognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to transfer economic benefft

Expenditure on charitabla activities is incurred on directly undertaking adivilles which further the
Trust's objectives. as well as any associated support Costs.

furtherance of the g￿ra1 obi&#Nes of the Trust aNI whth have not bean designated for other
PLtrposes.
Designated furjds comprw unrestricted funds thal have been set asvJ8 by the Trustees for particular
purposes. The aim and use of each desh3nated fijnd is set out in the notes to the financial
statem￿ts.
Restrthd funds are funds which are to be used in aCC￿danCe with specific restrictic￿S imwsed by
donor5 or which Ikgve been raised ty the Trust for pathular Pu￿Ose5.. The costs of raising and
administering such funds are charged &3ainst the specthc fund. The awn and use of each restricted
fvnd is set out in the notes to the financial statements.
