The aim of The Tracy Sollis Leukaemia Trust is to relieve sickness, suffering and distress of those diagnosed with leukaemia and similar blood related disorders. The Charity is run by a Board of Trustees listed as follows:-

Mrs Vivien Bentley (Vice Chairperson)

As experienced with many other charities there is a severe shortage of volunteers. We are extremely grateful to those who have managed to find time to assist in the day to day running of the charity.

The charity has two Charity Shops. The one shop predominantly stocks ladies clothing and bric-a-brac. The other shop stocks men’s wear, children’s clothing, furniture, and household goods. All items stocked are donated by the local community. The shops provide the major yearly income for the charity.

The Trust undertook the provision to as many hospitals as possible with Vein Finders. These will be of great benefit to a large number of patients who have previously been experiencing discomfort when trying to locate a vein. The Vein visualisation device provides the following:-

98% improvement in first stick success rate

45% reduction in escalation calls

81% reported improved ability to cannulate

59% reduction in pain

24% improvement in catheter dwell time

78% reduction in procedure time

To date The Trust has provided the following Hospital’s with an Accuvein device complete with stand:

Cheltenham Hospital’s Rendcomb Ward

Cheltenham Hospital’s Lillybrook Ward

Hexham Hospital’s Oncology Unit

Gloucester Royal Hospital’s Edward Jenner Ward

Gloucester Royal Hospital’s Children’s Outpatient Department

Kidderminster Hospital’s Garden Suite

Kidderminster Hospital Millbrook Suite

Worcester Hospital’s Rowan Suite Merstow Green & Abbey Medical Surgery Warwick Hospital Evesham Community Hospital

Due to Covid restrictions there was an enforced break from providing this service for several months. It was therefore a welcome return on the wards by The Trust’s Carrie - Ann Adams during the month of August at Worcester Royal Hospital. This valuable service saw a total of 201 patients during the months of August to December inclusive.

Four independent applications were received and granted. These were all relating to extra expenses incurred regarding hospital transport and essentials needed towards the patient’s wellbeing and care.

One of the successful applications came from a Clic Sargent Paediatric Oncology Social Worker requesting help for a family of a baby at Birmingham Children’s Hospital in need of a Stem Cell Transplant.

The Guest speaker for the AGM 2022 was PhD Student Kathryn Strange who spoke about her research work within the Anthony Nolan Research Institute. To assist with her work The Trust agreed and paid an invoice of £7,700.00 for reagents for the laboratory.

It was a particularly challenging year due to unexpected circumstances. The biggest setback was the van needing a new engine. The Trust looked upon the purchase for a new vehicle, but this was proved to be unviable due to shortages at the time.

A huge thank you to our Patron Gordon Giltrap who organised this special fundraiser which took place at the Fleece Inn, Bretforton on 21st August 2022. The evening commenced with the highly accomplished singer/songwriter and guitarist Carrie Martin and later in the evening keyboard musician, Adam Parrish, accompanied Gordon. All performances were truly outstanding!

It was a truly magical evening which raised the wonderful amount of £1,500. Special thanks also go to the night’s sound engineer Dave Ford who had travelled down especially from Derby and to Nigel Smith for providing the great venue.

Amount received from organisers £150, plus car park donations of £126.11.

A huge Thank You and Congratulations to Jeanette Bentley and Simon Cooper who for their Wedding requested donations towards the Trust instead of gifts. Their generosity raised an amazing £1,300.00.

A big thank you to all our supporters and volunteers! We have had a highly encouraging start to 2023 by providing further vein finders, complementary therapy, and supporting research projects. In appreciation of your continued support!
