**Objects:** THE PURPOSE OF THE SOCIETY IS TO ADVANCE THE EDUCATION OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC BY DEVELOPING A GREATER SENSE OF AWARENESS OF THE LIFE AND WORK OF GEORGE ROMNEY AND HIS CONTEMPORARIES, TO EXPLORE THE ART AND CULTURE OF THE SOCIETY IN WHICH HE LIVED AND TO PROMOTE AND ADVANCE EDUCATION IN THE ARTS OF THE 18TH CENTURY.

**Activities:** The Romney Society develops the awareness of the public of the arts of the eighteenth century and of George Romney and his contemporaries in particular. Each year the society holds a series of lectures and publishes an academic journal called "The Transactions of The Romney Society" and offers an essay prize. The website brings in a steady correspondence.
