As J¢ssica mentioned in ber presidential report Rn 2021, 2019.202 1 was a ttsrbuletht time For her and
board member5. After contract-out with Tai.lor and Francis, much eflori$ hai-e been devoted to reforming
our rommunitv s)-stem, for example. resuming handling of mejnbership. searching for a new. publisher,
upgrading our website. and having more social media presence, etc.

COVID-19 on July 15 2021. Board meeting.% had been held ei.ery three months 2nd discussed many issues
including WDA business, IJO and AgtiQFR publications. ICO meeting, Ivebsite. attouJ>ting, etc.
During m) term, we made some change of our polic). We started a neK' publishing model with
Wachholtz whicb includes free open acccss for member$. Howeier, wc soon 5I11tched to do $elf-publication
of IJO by judging it will he better and qtiicker than kccping rontract M'ith them. We hai-e no￿ 3 good
abundaDtt of articles for IJO in these two year51 More detail will be rcported by the Managing Editor in
this issue.
Membtr5hip had dropped to beloM- 100 immediateli after The started resuming handling of
membership. but we are now up to l 53 metnbers incluth.ng ne￿ and old people. Thank )'ou to evervone for
supporting NVDA, and to the WDA board members M'orking to iDerease membership value.
We will hai-e a real Ico Jneeting tbRs summer. IC02023 will be held in Paphos, Ci'prus. The
congress ￿enue will be Neapolis Unii"ersitv. David and R05 SparrvM- hai'e M'orked hard to organize and
reorganiLe the ICO meeting. and it will be a trtsly wonderful meeting.

The first item my agenda 15 one thatyoshitaka Tsubakt has been working on and that is to fill

l am also hoping to implement some of the great ideas that camc out of the workshop held dtsring
the 2019 ICO on makingWDA more relciant.

contribute to odonate conservation priorities.

During the last two vears ive have ended contTart5 with Wathholtz and formally ended the relationship
with Tavlor & Francis Ilnforma) for the publishing of the JEktern4tioTrolJournal of 0donuto1o￿ (IJO).
Wc haTre s]￿ed new contracts Birgit Rodder (Mcdien Design} and Thomas Ulber {HerPrint}
to assist in the self-publishing ol thc IJO as outlincd by the ,U&naging Editor bclow.
Vc haie a150 Si￿ed contracts with EBSCO Information Scrfvites to allow, the opcn access IJO to
be part OF their e-journal Str￿Ce for research databascs and publit libraries M-orldwide.
The Secretar). & Treasurers roles hai'e been performed the same pcrson as there 15 quite an
overlap in sorne areas, ho￿-¢1-er the important role of Secretary must be split out again going Fnr￿'ard and
the board will ensure that this takes place.
We still need an actis'e increase ITr both new member5 and membership renewals and of course
thank you for your continued support.

trend for impact lactor has remained reasonabl) cokk51Stent with a gcneral upward trend in tht last few
years. The journal has remained steady within the entomolog). category. r￿kIng 68 out of 105 in 2021.

haye no1￿. been Agrion s editors for a long period ol 16 )-ears. Both Graknm and I have expressed a willingness

following his ncw appointment has given notice that he intends to retire frorn the WDA Asrion NeM'$letter
editorial team folloiying the publication of the j￿1V 2023 A8TlOTr Issue.
Graham is a meticulou5 cditor and has alwavs completed his review and edits to Agrion articlcs

onfcrencc had to be postponed due to dxe CoroTh3 Pandemic, first to later in 2021 and H'ith ongoing

IC02021= In 202 1 a Virtual WDA ewent & Biennial General Meeting w'as held on 15 Juli to
bridge the long gap between tbe EC02019 in Austin. Texas and EC02023 sn Paphos. The program of
the virtual Ic02021 included six plenary talks about work being done around the world. The plenary
speakers represented North.4meriLa, Africa, Australasik, Asia and also two speakers gale loball). forused
presentatinns- one fro¥n the IUCN Dragonfli. Specialist Group Cu-Lknir.4 and one from the GEODE Prujert.
Follo1￿.ing the plenary presentatlOTiS there ivas a screening of Georg Riippell and Dagnar HilFert-Ruppells'
Pilm. My Dragon River. During the e￿ertt there were tw'o breakout sessions where members totsld link up
and soci&li7.c on various odonatological topics of interest to them and talk th"rectly to other members En thc
chat se55ion.
In mi perception the sirtual meeting M'as clearlTr a succcss being attended a surprisingly high
number of PCT50ns. .4nd still being a fan of personal meetitig during conferences I could imagine that the
format of a virtual ICO may be sometljing ￿-t could possAblTr OTganise as M'ell as another opporiunitv to
meet in between the lii-e ICOS
The future-. Some more future Yenues lor ICO hale been proposed and a schedule h35 been Further
deTr'eloped. Th¢ IC02025 sTrill be htld in Bo)-aca, Colombia. Organiser will be Melissa S2nehez Herrera.
