## **Heage Windmill Society - Chair's Report for 2021** After being elected Derbyshire County Council member for the area I became a trustee for the windmill, at first knowing very little other than its existence. Today I find myself composing the Chair’s Annual Report for the Heage Windmill Society Trust; well, I never saw that one coming at this time last year! My interest was spiked and my appreciation of the incredible hard work by volunteers and the Trust has impressed me. It quickly became obvious to see that this windmill creates a passion in all that are involved with her. The start of the year was a difficult time for all of us with a lot of uncertainty within both the groups. We got through that and I’m glad to be able to say that we seem to be on a more secure base at this time and we are moving forward. I have been involved with the Friends group that have worked tirelessly to create a set of rules for the safe use of the site throughout the pandemic. This work has enabled the Friends to continue with the all-important maintenance, to sell flour, bric-a-brac and to hold events. This has kept the windmill’s profile high on social media and funds rolling in, leaving us in a healthy financial position. This was also helped immensely by the visit from the Hairy Bikers; this event really has put the windmill on the national stage. Well done and thank you to all involved. We have again been awarded Trip Advisor Travellers’ Choice Award for 2021, this of course is solely down to the volunteers. We have welcomed new trustees and have a strong team that work well together. We have been working on the documentation that supports the working and usage of the mill and the safeguarding of individuals. This is a very important part of the trust’s role and we must continue to keep moving forward to bring us in line with how modern charities and trusts work. Thank you to all involved in this and for the members of the Friends in assisting. This year the windmill is 225 years old, to the best of our knowledge and it has been 25 years since the Trust was formed and 20 years on the 28[th] May since its opening ceremony after the restoration. We will be celebrating these important milestones in the history of the Mill, throughout the year. We have a lot more work to do in the near future, we have already commenced the preparatory work that will make it happen. I hope that we will all continue to work together to ensure that we can have six sails gracefully turning for many years to come. I am fully aware of the numerous times that I have typed “Thank You” within this fairly short report, however I make no apologies for this. This iconic windmill stands here today due to a group of ever-changing individuals in the guise of the Friends and the Trust, that support and are passionate about this Heage Windmill.
