The principal object of the society is to educate the public in the operatic arts of Gilbert and/or Sullivan to further the development of public appreciation and taste in the said arts to assist and further such charitable **Summary of the objects of the** institutions and charitable purposes as the Committee shall from time to **charity set out in its governing** time determine. **document** The Trustees had due regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance when planning the programme of events for the year. In September 2024 we performed a concert ‘Deceit and Disguise’ which was a collation of scenes and songs performed on the theme of deceit and disguise. Including some Gilbert and Sullivan’s songs such as Tripping Hither, Tripping Thither from _Iolanthe_ and The Act 2 Finale of _The Mikado._ The concert was well attended by a diverse range of people, some in their 70s and 80s, young people and lots of young children as well. We offered 10 free tickets to the members of Pimlico Residents Association, to try to make the concert accessible to those that wouldn’t normally be able to attend. In addition we charged a small rate of £12 for children and provided free tickets to some of our Angels. The concert was also part of our celebration for our 75[th] anniversary of the society, where we heard from some of our oldest members and Angel benefactors about the history and how the society has brought them joy since the 1950’s and continues to do so. The performance was just over 90 mins (not including any breaks) and was followed by the celebration which featured our archives from the last **Summary of the main activities** 75 years, with old programmes, AGM books and photographs going all the **undertaken for the public** way back to 1949 were on display so that members of the society and **benefit in relation to these** members of the public can take a look at our rich history and physical **objects (include within this** archives that have been carefully collated, stored and were displayed. **section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance** On 13th December 2023, GLOC observed its annual fundraising tradition **issued by the Charity** of singing traditional Christmas Carols in Trafalgar Square. 41 members **Commission on public benefit)** sang for an hour to a large crowd. We followed this with our annual Christmas Dinner Social in The Admiralty Pub across the square. GLOC performed _The Mikado_ at the Bridewell Theatre, London on Wednesday 11th June to Saturday 14nd June 2024 (including a matinee performance on the Saturday). The production was directed by Ritchie Scott and the musical director was Christopher Jacklin. Rehearsals started in February 2023 and took place each Wednesday until June at St. Gabriel’s Church Hall in Pimlico. The Artistic director, Ritchie Scott updated the action to modern day setting, allowing the music and structure of the piece to be accessible to a modern day audience. Instead of setting the piece in Japan, it was set in the UK in a car factory where we were still able to bring out the original humour of the piece in a new contextual and cultural setting, making the piece accessible to modern day audience. The production attracted a large cast of 41 members. As part of our charitable aims, we continue to offer the price of a Children’s ticket to the show at only £12, to help make the works of Gilbert and Sullivan more accessible to younger generations. We had a 13 piece orchestra, larger

than the previous year thanks to a large donation from a friend of the society in memory of his parents who passed away.

The show was very well attended with the matinee performance selling out.

On 19[th] June we took part in The Isabel Jay competition on ‘Doyly Carte Island’ near Weybridge. We performed a short excerpt of our Mikado to G&S enthusiasts on the island where Richard Doyly carte once lived. All members that attended were able to visit the island free of charge so all our members were able to visit the museum on the island. We didn’t come first but were runners up and were the ‘peoples choice’.

We also took the show to The International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton, where we were invited to perform in The Pavillion Atys Centre on 16[th] August 2024. The show sold out and was very well received at the festival.

## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)**

You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about:

GLOC is an organisation run by volunteers. The productions could not take place without the enormous contribution of time and expertise given by so many of the members. During the past year, volunteers designed and built the set and staging for _The Yeomen of the Guard_ , created props and sourced costumes for the principals and chorus.

● policy on grantmaking;

● policy programme related investment;

● contribution made by volunteers.

Volunteers also helped with lighting, carried out publicity and marketing and ensured that the charity was administered effectively. This helped members to learn and apply new skills while supporting the company’s core aims.

|**Brief statement of the**
**charity’s policy on reserves**
**Details of any funds materially**
**in deficit**
**Further financial review details**||
||The Committee’s aspiration for reserves is that the charity will hold
sufficient reserves at the year-end to cover the costs of a show without
receiving ticket sale income or subscription income. The charity typically
incurs all show costs before receiving any ticket income, so this policy
means that in the event of a show being cancelled after incurring costs,
the charity would still be in a position to meet the ordinary cash flow costs
involved in putting on the next show. This will also act as a cushion
against lower than anticipated receipts or unforeseen circumstances.
The full cost of putting on the summer production, including rehearsal
and production costs, is around £18,000. The Committee therefore
aspires to hold between £15,000–£18,000 in reserve, to provide a buffer
against any sudden financial shock.
At the year-end, GLOC had around £28,616 in the bank account. This is
in line with the reserves policy and leaves the company in a stable
position to support the next year’s activities.|
