## ANNUAL REPORT FOR 

## THE WORKINGTON AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY YEAR ENDING 2024

The Charity, known herein as the Society, affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Society (N.O.D.A.) was founded in the town of WORKINGTON in 1906. 

It is governed by a document known as the RULES approved by the members of the Society At an Extraordinary Meeting on 29 November 1997.    These Rules were based on the NODA model set and approved by the Charity Commission of England and Wales. 

The persons named below are known by the Society as the Officers and the Management Committee and are the body responsible as the Charity Trustees.

## **1 Aims and Objectives** 

The Society’s main objectives were to educate our members in dramatic and operatic Arts and further the development of the public appreciation and taste in the said arts.  This was achieved by promoting the works performed during the year and described below. 

The Society was organised and managed by the Management Committee and Officers (the Trustees) with constant interaction and full support and dedication of the whole membership.   The members met regularly throughout the year to learn and practice in the arts of performing works intended to be of educational value to the public. 

The Society contained and operated as an adult portion and a junior portion with full integration as and when required depending upon the works in progress.   The Management Committee acted as the constant interface. 

For this year the Society presented two production – The Little Mermaid - with the senior and junior sections in March 2024 and Hunchback of Notre Dame by the Adult Section in October 2024 both performed in the Carnegie Theatre, Workington.  Both productions were well received by the General Public. 

The Society has its own premises where rehearsals and other activities which included fund raising were carried out. 

## **Some minor changes in the Organisation since last year** 

Our Management remains the same as last year with new members on wardrobe and social subcommittees. 

Most Committees have stayed the same with people working very hard and we have 2 new subcommittee.  We have new fund-raising sub committee which have been doing great work in raising funds. 

The Minis Group – which is for younger kids from 4-6 years which has been meeting on Saturday morning. 

Our Membership number remain very healthy with 68 playing and associate members 

Juniors’ membership is around 40 with Still a long waiting list, 

## **2 Review of Progress and Achievements** 

During the year - 3 members received their NODA Long Service Awards these were: - 

- Tish McKenzie  - 25 years 

- Jim Musgrave – 65 years 

- Norman Brayton -  65 years 



These awards are presented by NODA to mark members’ commitment and dedication to their Society and the Amateur Stage. 

The Little Mermaid has received the following nominations 

- Best supporting female character in a musical – Chloe Staedman 

- Best female character youth performance in an adult production – Tilly Kipling 

Hunchback has received the following Nominations :- 

- Best leading male character in a musical - Andrew McMinn 

- Best supporting male character in a musical - Andrew White. 

- Best ensemble 

- Best programme Category 

The Society has been reviewing its Policies and Procedure during the year and implementing new ones to comply with New Legislation. 

## **3 Review of Financial Affairs and Activities** 

## P **roduction Account** 

The Treasurer reported the following :- 

The Little Mermaid performed in March made a Loss of £2,129.09. Book Office was 59% of Hunchback of Notre Dame but we only made a loss of £286.22 

## **Society Accounts** 

The Treasurer reported that the Society is at present in a healthy position with deposits at the HSBC of £64,612.24
