## THE WORKINGTON AMATEUR OPERATIC SOCIETY YEAR ENDING 2020

The Charity, known herein as the Society, affiliated to the National Operatic and Dramatic Society (N.O.D.A.) was founded in the town of WORKINGTON in 1906. 

It is governed by a document known as the RULES approved by the members of the Society At an Extraordinary Meeting on 29 November 1997.    These Rules were based on the NODA model set and approved by the Charity Commission of England and Wales. 

The persons named below are known by the Society as the Officers and the Management Committee and are the body responsible as the Charity Trustees.

## **1 Aims and Objectives** 

The Society’s main objectives were to educate our Members in dramatic and operatic Arts and further the development of the public appreciation and taste in the said arts.  This was achieved by promoting the works performed during the year and described below. 

The Society was organised and managed by the Management Committee and Officers (the Trustees) with constant interaction and full support and dedication of the whole membership.   The members met regularly throughout the year to learn and practice in the arts of performing works intended to be of educational value to the public. 

The Society contained and operated as an adult portion and a junior portion with full integration as and when required depending upon the works in progress.   The Management Committee acted as the constant interface. 

For this year the Society presented only one production – Oliver by the Junior Section performed in the Carnegie Theatre, Workington.  This production was well received by the General Public. 

The Society has its own premises where rehearsals and other activities which included fund raising were carried out.

## **2 Review of Progress and Achievements** 

During the year - 4 members should have received their NODA Long Service Awards these were: - 

- Pat Nicholson – Diamond 60 years 

- Linda Adams – Gold 50 years 

- Ryan O’Hagan – 25 year medal 

- Rod Erlston – 25 year medal 

These awards are presented by NODA to mark members’ commitment and dedication to their Society and the Amateur Stage. 

4 Junior members received Youth Achievement Badges 

Poppy Leece, Oliver Buchanan, Jadzia Smeaton, Laura Brown 

The Society has been reviewing its Policies and Procedure during the year and implementing new ones to comply with New Legislation. 



**3 Review of Financial Affairs and Activities** 

## P **roduction Account** 

The Treasurer reported an excellent year for the Society with all productions being financially successful which helps to ensure the Production Account remains healthy. 

In Feburary 2020 the Production of Oliver played to Audiences for all 4 performances making a profit of £ **1,571.18.** This is the overall Profit as all stopped due to the Pandemic. 

## **Society Accounts** 

A profile of £8,783.19 was shown for 2020. 

The Treasurer reported that the Society is at present in a healthy position with deposits at the HSBC of £72,457.70

I report in ￿SpeCt of my examination of the Trust's accounts carried OLrt
under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I
have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission
under section 145{5)(b) of the Act.

I have completed my examination. I confinn that no material matters have
come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that
