There's never been an easy time to be young.But with a cost-of-livingcrisis and increasingpressureon education and
employment,2023wasastoughasitgetsforyoungpeople.ThePrince'sTrustNatWestYouthIndex2023 found
youngpeople'shappinessand confidenceat an all-timelow with the resultingimpacton mentalhealthand wellbeing
a constantconcern.Foryoungpeoplelivingwitha visionimpairmentthesituationis markedlyworse.Data compiled
bytheRNIBshowsthatVIchildrenhavelowereducationalattainmentthanchildrenwithoutaspecial educational
need or disability;that there is a large wellbeinggap between teenagerswith VI and their fully sightedpeers; and that
the progression of VI young people beyond education is not on a par with fully sighted young people.

Aware thatfeelingsof isolationand lonelinessare dominantwithinthe worldof visualimpairment,at VICTA we focus
onactivity-basedlearningasapositivesettingforsocialinteractionandpersonalgrowth.Forouryoung people,
involvementin groupactivitiescan be positivelyassociatedwith social acceptanceand a sense of belonging, especially
where suchinvolvementis characterisedby positivecoaching,progressiveskilldevelopmentandpeer support.This is
particularlymeaningful,relevant,and necessaryfor VI studentswhen they are preparingfor transitioninto secondary
education,highereducation,or the workplace.We believewellbeing,socialconnectedness,confidence& self-esteem
help counter the physical, mental and emotional problems faced within the VI community.

Throughstrategicpartnershipsandcollaborations,wecontinuedtoexpandourreachin2023.Thisexpansion has
enabledustoextendourprogrammesallowingustoreachmoreyoungpeoplelivingwithavisionimpairment and
theirfamilies.Thiseffortalignsseamlesslywiththecoreprioritieslaidoutinour2023-2025StrategicPlan.This plan
focusesonfacilitatingeducationandempowerment,fosteringindependence,andencouragingsocialinclusion. Our
commitmenttosupportingyoungpeopleontheirpathtowardsadulthoodandindependencehasresulted in
providingopportunitiesforpersonalgrowth,theacquisitionofsocialskills,self-advocacyandbuilding emotional
resilience.This empoweringexperienceopensdoorsandsupportsthem to achievetheirpersonalgoals,shaping their
active participationin society.Our youngpeopleremainat the heartof our organisation,drivingus to remain centred
around people, knowledge, adaptability, and the pursuit of positive change.

Ourvolunteersareessentialtooursuccess.Andin2023,volunteersfromacrosstheUKgenerouslygavetheir time,
experienceandexpertise,supportingustoachieveourgoals.Ourteamofvolunteershelpwitheverything from
fundraisingandspreadingawarenessofthechallengesyoungpeoplewithavisionimpairmentfaceintheir local
communities, to supporting a family day to delivering a Duke of Edinburgh's Award expedition.

The developmentof a new volunteeringstrategyhas been a key focusfor us and2024willsee the introductionof an
ambitiousvisionforthefutureofvolunteeringatVICTA.Itwasshapedbyconversationsandworkshopswith VICTA
staffincludingvolunteers,aswellasinsightsgatheredfromvolunteerfeedback.Wewanttoensurethat VICTA
volunteersmaximisetheirpotential,haveatransformativeexperienceandprovidebetteroutcomesformore young
people and the communities we serve.

Wearelookingattheappointmentofseniorvolunteers(includingVIyoungadultswhohaveusedourservices). We
candrawontheirdeliveryexperienceandunderstandingof theVICTAethostohelpus co-createandstrengthen our
volunteerstrategy(alongsideothers in our community).We envisage senior volunteersactingin a mentor capacity for
new VICTAvolunteers;attendingandtakingan activerolein key VICTAvolunteeringeventssuchas the designof our
VolunteeringTrainingWeekend;identifyinggapsinexistingtrainingandknowledge;developingcontentfor National
VolunteersWeek;andsupportingtheVICTAActivitiesTeamwithvolunteerrecruitmentandretention strategies
including the identification of future Senior Volunteers.

Totalincomereceivedby the Charityduringthe year was £460,595(£677,254- 2022)a decreaseof 32%. The amount
spent on charitable activities was £336,068, a decrease of 5% over the previous year (£355,350 - 2022).

Inresponsetothecost-of-livingcrisisintheUKandunsettlingglobaleventsin2023,thetrusteeshaveperformed a
robustanalysisof the forecastfuturecash flows and have consideredthe potentialimpact on the charity.The trustees
haveconcludedthatthereisnomaterialuncertaintyarisingfromtheseeventsandthattheycancontinueto adopt
the going concern basis in preparing the annual report and accounts.

Ourreservesareseparatedintodesignatedfundsandgeneralfunds.Thedesignatedfundsaremoniespaid and
contractedby the Charityfor charitableactivitiesand fundraisingfor 2024 and amountto £279,500(2022: £308,000).
Thebalanceinourgeneralreserveof£84,896(2022:£176,086)isasumthattheTrusteesconsiderissufficient to
ensurethecontinuedrunningofthecharityforaminimumof12months,intheeventthatwewereunable to
continue to raise funds at our current level.

A pilot three-monthOfqual regulatedemployabilitycourse to be launchedby VICTA and Royal National College
forthe Blind(RNC)in October2023.The Get WorkplaceReadycoursehasbeendesignedto accommodate up
to10unemployedyoungadultswithsightlossandwhoareidentifiedasbeingone-stepremovedfrom the
labourmarket.Theywillbeintroducedtothecourseatasix-dayresidentialatRNC.Using cognitive
behaviouralgroupapproachesandcoaching,theprogrammeisdesignedtohelpparticipants (re-)discover
theircareergoals,tacklefearof failure,increaseself-confidenceandimprovetheirwellbeing,inorderto take
first positive steps towards the labour market.

Over10classroom-ledandfouractivity-based,friendlyandinteractivesessionsincombinationwith targeted
1:1 support,attendeeswill learn how to become aware and take controlof their innerdialogueand rediscover

identifyandrecordwildspecies.Deliveredthroughaseriesof'bioblitzdays',resultswillbetagged'VICTA' so
that VI young people in one local community can search the findings of VI groups in other areas of the UK.

youngpeopleboth in-personand virtually.Secondly,to increasethe connectionbetween VI youngpeople and

increasedinterestin STEM thatcan be furtherencouragedthroughparticipationin VICTA's virtualScience Fair
withcontentspecificallycompiledforVIyoungpeople.Awarethatfeelingsofisolationandloneliness are
dominantwithintheworldofvisionimpairment,wefocusonactivity-basedlearningasapositivesetting for
