REGISTRATION DATES AND FEES 2024
All breeders should ensure that they have read the document ‘Registration Guidance and Fees for 2024 Foals’. By signing the Registration Application Form, you are confirming that you have read and understood the document and accept the terms and conditions.
The breeder is responsible for completing the registration form and microchipping the foal (except those eligible for the Forest-run derogation).
The final date for submission of forms,
as set down in the Equine Identification (England) Regulations 2018 is 30 NOVEMBER 2024.
-
Please register your foals as early as possible; do not delay in sending in your forms;
-
Ensure that all mares are transferred into the breeder’s ownership;
-
Consider microchipping your stud-bred foals as soon as possible after birth.
It is very important that all entrants for all Beaulieu Road Sales are registered as early as possible, so that there is sufficient time for the passports to be made up before the sale. This will particularly apply to the September Sale – you will need to start the registration process by early August. Do not delay.
REGISTRATION FEES FOR MEMBERS
The registrations committee and full council have reviewed the costs for registrations and managing this process and the fees for 2024 will be :
£18 for pure/part-bred foals, registered before 30[th] Sept 2024 £25 for pure/part-bred foals, registered 1[st] Oct to 30[th] Nov £25 ID-only equine passports, before 30[th] Sept 2024 £30 ID-only equine passports, 1[st] Oct to 30[th] Nov £25 Donkey passports

COMPULSORY MICROCHIPPING OF ALL EQUINES
The Equine Identification (England) Regulations 2018 required that all horses in England (apart from those covered by the New Forest semi-feral derogation) were microchipped by 1 October 2020 .
It is now expected that at all Society events and competitions, with the exception of the Forest-Fed competition, all ponies will be microchipped. No award will be made to a pony that is not microchipped in accordance with the law.
All entrants to Beaulieu Road Sales must be microchipped. This covers both foals and all other ponies of whatever age, in all the sections. Please ensure that the number is reported to the Society and recorded on the database before the sale.

The objects for which the Society is established are: to encourage the preservation and breeding of the best type of New Forest ponies; to undertake to record New Forest ponies and enter them in the New Forest Pony Stud Book; and to hold an annual show for the encouragement and improvement of the breed of New Forest ponies. Having due regard to the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance, the Society presents its financial accounts and this report on its activities in 2023 in which it sees its main achievements as the successful recording of New Forest ponies and the promotion and preservation of the breed.
PRESIDENT’S REPORT 2023
It has been an honour and a privilege to be President of the Society over the past year, and of the few duties of that office, I particularly enjoyed the traditional hosting of afternoon tea at the Breed Show. It was lovely to catch up with so many friends, and I always feel that is a small oasis of calm amongst all the hectic rush of the show.
Congratulations to all the class winners, and especially to our Supreme Champion Peronne Notorious who won that for the third time overall and the 2nd year in a row, what an achievement.
I was very pleased that the futurity scheme for colts has been continued, as this is a great way to support the keeping of young potential stallions, and we must thank the Verderers for assisting with this funding. Hopefully some of these colts will eventually become stallions that will run the Forest.
I would also like to thank your council for all the time and effort they give to the Society, I am sure most members do not realise the amount of work they do on our behalf.
Of course 2023 has been a sad year for my family and I, with the sudden and unexpected passing of my brother Matthew. I am sure most of you knew Matthew, a big character in every sense, who lived and worked his whole life in the Forest. Dad gave us our first pony when we were both young boys, and we took 9G as our brand and Portmore as the prefix, and have run a large herd of ponies between us ever since.
Matthew also loved his cows and he and his partner Karen would always enter them for the cattle classes at the Breed show, with much rivalry and bragging rights for whoever’s came out on top. Much to my disgust, he also turned out a large herd of shetlands, but he always used to say to me when I moaned about them, ‘it could be worse, I could keep donkeys’!
Remembered for his smile and always ready to help, he will be greatly missed by all.
Jonathan Gerrelli
CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2023
2023 has been a year of many changes with new staff taking up roles in the office. Ann who has done such a wonderful job with registrations over the last couple of years realised that the hours required were too many for her in a part time capacity. Fortunately, Ann has been available to give her expertise to our new staff and will continue to help on an occasional basis as required.
We now have Charlotte Chatfield (Charlie) and Paris Wyles working as a job share covering more hours as required, we have been very lucky to find such an efficient pairing and they have quickly fitted into their roles.
Another massive change comes, as with great sadness that I report that Jane Murray, our Honorary Secretary stepped down from her role at the end of November last year. Jane joined the society some twenty years ago and in addition to all the usual secretarial duties undertaken, she steered us through some complicated issues with new PIO legislation, as well as us leaving Europe with its many implications. Her dedication in absorbing knowledge of complicated DEFRA and Brexit legislation has been of enormous help to the Society. Jane was also kept very busy with genetics not only relating to breeding but also to genetic diseases and formalising our consolidated breeding programme. In her time as Hon Sec the Society has seen great change, including moving offices, updating IT systems implementing various changes to its activities and the evolution of the council. To mark her retirement the ‘resources’ committee took her out to lunch and presented her with a laptop as a thank you gift on behalf of the society. Since formally stepping down, Jane has continued to come into the office to assist and help our acting Hon Sec Jenni Cavanna learn the ropes and the office processes. As we enter a new era, the administration of the Society will be shared across the office with our new office team. We will make a formal presentation and thank you to Jane at our AGM in April, and I’m sure that many of you will want to wish her a lovely retirement. Jane, a well known feature of the society and our office will be greatly missed.A huge thanks is also due to our treasurer Kathy-there are now so many methods of payment that the role can be very time consuming in collating everything for the accountants.
The Council as always works hard through the year-running the many events and making sure that our breed is in the public eye whether through events or through publicity on the web and in magazines-a big thankyou is due to them. I am fortunate to have Sam Dovey as my vice chair still, with his broad knowledge of Society matters and understanding of legislation
Finally the breeders and the ponies have not let us down culminating in the wonderful result at with Vynnes Magical Edition taking the HOYS M&M Ridden Championship.
Suzanne Kempe
COUNCIL CHANGES IN 2023
At the AGM held on 24 March 2023, Mrs Shirley Young stepped down from the Council, creating a vacancy. This was filled by Ms Lyndsey Hayter. Hannah Buteux stepped down as Society Vet, and was replaced by Louisa Weinfeld MRCVS.
STAFF CHANGES IN 2023
Ann Hall left the position of Registration Secretary in the summer. Charlotte Chatfield and Paris Wyles joined us to take on the Registrations and other office admin tasks. Jenni Cavanna became our Acting Hon Sec from Dec in place of Jane Murray who retired after 20 years in that role.
RARE BREEDS SURVIVAL TRUST - RARE BREED STATUS
Following RBST’s introduction of new methodology for calculating breed status in 2021, the New Forest Pony remained in the amber ‘At Risk’ category in 2023.
ONLINE STUD BOOK
Access to the online stud book is free of charge to members and as such is a valuable benefit of membership. You need your membership number and a password which consists of four lower case letters. If you have misplaced your access details, phone or email the office.
REVIEW OF THE YEAR
Another busy year for our society starting with the Forest-fed competition where commoners enter their mares to be judged on the forest in late Feb/early March. This is acknowledging the hardy and typey mares which in turn are the backbone of our Breed.
The Forest-Fed competition gives a clear indication of how the ponies have wintered and all three judges were very pleased with the condition and standard of the mares. Congratulations to Marion Ingram’s evergreen Deerleap Orchid, Overall Champion and winning the Dale Memorial Cup, and well done to Young Commoners Ines Mitchell (Overall Reserve with Doorage Keepsake) and Peter Fogarty, who entered for the first time and were both Area winners
The colt inspections were once again held in April at the very unique Beaulieu Road Sales yard where the show ring with it’s high fencing is suitable for seeing the colts loose and an inspection box is available for the vetting. Sadly, this year was extremely wet, not easy for handlers or the judges, but everybody persisted, and we saw 14 colts successfully pass the inspection subject to vetting and DNA checks. Top colt was Vynnes Second Edition
We were also able to offer a Northern Grading Day which included colt inspections and mare grading with seven colts passing their inspection-the top colt being Backley Dream Catcher.
Through the summer some mare grading inspections were held on holdings, and at the September Grading Day where six colts passed their inspections too. We were pleased to have a good number of colt foals put forward to be included in our Futurity Scheme as well as some yearling colts. We look forward to seeing how they progress and hope that they will be our stallions of the future, we are very grateful for continued funding from the Verderers HLS Scheme. The Futurity Scheme has produced 40 licenced stallions and 18 of the current forest run stallions are by 16 different sires.
Meanwhile members of the New Forest Pony Enthusiasts Riding Club have had a successful 2023 season attending and being placed throughout year at many BRC events.
Erin Dovey riding Moneyhills Pageant was 2nd at Swalcliffe ODE championships. Milly Stride riding Cuckopenn Merlin was 3rd at the Combined Training championships The junior arena eventing team won the 80cm section and were 3rd in the 70cm section. Lincolnshire Championships saw the senior team finishing third out of 107 teams. Sally Anne Pierson – Mallards Wood Jackson Sonja Waite - Silverlea Sweet Dreams Gemma Bruce - Applewitch Avalon Martine Harding - Willoway Double O Seven Sally Anne also finished 3rd as an individual Frankie Webb riding Hollybrooke Annie II won the dressage as an individual on the Sunday.
The Breed Society is always very grateful for the promotion of the fully registered pony by NFPEC and prices achieved when sold are a reflection of this.
Abigail Staff’s Knavesash Supernatural (Wayland Cranberry / Willoway Spellbound) bred by Kate Robb – took the Gold Medal Supreme M&M In Hand at NPS Summer Champs. Peronne The Navigator qualified for the Price family supreme in hand championship at Horse of the Year Show, Navigator was the only New Forest pony to qualify for this final and is the only New Forest pony to have qualified for this final more than once in this current format.
It’s been a busy year for northern breed supporters. Although entries were down at the Northern Show held in April at Camden Equestrian Centre near York, in conjunction with NPS Area 4, Steph Peto’s ridden gelding Portmore Downburst was a worthy Supreme Champion, with Diane Hadwen’s Highfox Heaven Sent in Reserve; Heaven Sent went on to stand British Isles and NPS Area 4 Reserve Supreme Champion In Hand.
For the first time in a number of years the Breed Society held a northern colt inspection, also at Camden Equestrian Centre, by kind permission of owner Micky Welling. Eight stallion owners presented colts for inspection and the spectacle attracted quite a lot of spectator interest. It was very encouraging to see so many potential stallions coming forward for licensing outside the Forest. The colt with the top marks on the day was Backley Dream Boy, a three year old owned by Adam Cooper.
Other highlights from 2023
Ann & Vicki Partington’s Highfox Hunky Dory ridden by Gail Whetter claimed NPS Scotland’s New Forest Pony of The Year award - they enjoyed a fantastic 2022 season and qualified twice for HOYS 2022…finishing 9th in the final.
New Forest ponies were very strongly represented at the NPS champs, winning a number of the prestigious M&M championships including: Pittswood Carmen – Black Country Ridden finalist & Champion Mare (Owen & Val Dibdin); Woodrow The Warrior – British Isles In-Hand Supreme Champion (June Whitham); Knavesash Supernatural – Gold Medal M&M In-Hand Supreme Champion (Abigail Staff); Hurtstock Cornish Amber – Ringside Open Ridden Supreme Champion (Lucy Booth)
Winning the M&M Ridden championship at HOYS was a huge result for breeders Andy Vine and daughter Laura House with their homebred stallion Vynnes Magical Edition beautifully ridden by Pip Smith. Mr Ed as he is known is by Applewitch Pure Magic previous ‘Sire of the Year at HOYS on two occasions.
Malcom Fry
2023 BREED SHOW REPORT
The Annual Breed Show was once again held in the Ley Field at New Park behind the main showground at New Park. The weather is always a worry, and on the Saturday the heavens opened at one point and combined with thunder and lightening sent people diving for cover, but the stalwart judges, helpers and competitors just carried on. We were much luckier on Monday.
On Saturday Peronne Notorious won the Stud Stallion Championship, with the Stud Youngstock Champion Vines Second Edition taking Reserve. The Champion Forest-run Stallion was Knavesash Polaris, who won the Shobley Cup, and Pauls Lane Bramble was Forest-Bred In-hand Stallion Champion. Fidleywood Falconer won the Cranesmoor Cup for having the best foals on the Forest. Emma Collis and Doorage Forget-me-not had a successful day winning the HOYS Qualifier, and later taking the Owner/Rider and the Overall Ridden Championships along with the NPS Ridden Silver Medal. In the WHP Championship it was a repeat of last year’s success for Peronne Nero who was champion again, and Furzley To Be Faire took reserve. The Novice Ridden Champion was Woodrow Delights Double, and the Forest-Bred Ridden Champion was Picket Post Polo owned by the late Rohays Gray.
Woodrow the Warrior was the Youngstock Champion for the third time, and the reserve was the Filly Champion Brock Bronagh. Warrior was also the Gelding Youngstock Champion, and overall Gelding Champion. The Forest-Bred Youngstock Champion was Lucky Lane Spitfire, and the overall in-hand Forest Bred Champion was Glenbeech Nutmeg who also took the Centaur Cup for Young Commoners in-hand 4 years and over. The Gaza Cup for best Youngstock owner by a Young Commoner was won by Sway Supersonic, and the Beaulieu Road Sales Champion was Crabbswood Suprize. The 133cm Champion was Brock Artemis.
The Mare Championship was won by James Young and Trudy Nineham’s home bred mare Brock Bronwen, with a previous winner Holybrooke Melitta, owned by Mr John and Mrs Wendy Adams, taking reserve. This was Melitta’s last Breed Show, as she has now retired after a very successful career in the show ring. The Mallards Wood Filly Foal won the Foal Championship.
Marney Dell’s Champion Stud Stallion, Peronne Notorious, by Moortown Nobby, was again victorious taking the Supreme Championship for an amazing third time. This was particularly special as they almost missed the Supreme Championship due to a serious accident blocking the motorway. They won the Marie Large Memorial Trophy as highest placed stud-bred pony, NPS In-Hand Silver Medal and the HOYS/Price In-hand Semi-Final Qualifer. The Reserve Supreme was the Overall Forest-Bred In-hand Champion, Glenbeech Nutmeg, by Oke Dene Red Alert, and owned by Daniel Drodge, who also won the Arthur Collis Memorial Cup for the highest placed mare/filly and the Sungold Countess Cup for the highest placed Forest-bred pony.
The Show would not be possible without all the help of our amazing volunteers, some who have helped us for many years, As always, I would like to take this opportunity to say an enormous thank you on behalf of the Show Committee to the stewards, announcer, helpers, judges and competitors, we just could not do it without you. We would also like to thank our sponsors too. We look forward to seeing you all at the 2024 Show.

FUTURITY SCHEME – LICENSING OF TWO YEAR OLD COLTS
At the spring colt inspection, five of the Futurity Scheme colts gained their licence: Jetset Monarch, Knavesash Duty, Pragnells Pippin, Cavannas Oh No Overdraft and Buckland Tomahawk. Jetset Monarch, Knavesash Duty and Pragnells Pippin were accepted into the Verderers Stallion Scheme.
FUTURITY YEARLING COLTS SCHEME
We were extremely grateful to the Verderers of the New Forest who were able to pay us a grant of £9,500 from their HLS Verderers Grazing Scheme, which is allowing us to continue the Futurity Yearling Colts scheme. We invited yearling colts and colt foals to come forward for assessment following the main stallion inspection on Sept 30[th] with four yearlings and nine colt foals being excepted for the winter premium provided they are presented again for selection in April 2024
The Futurity Scheme pays a number of other premiums on successful licensing and if enough offspring have been sired by the age of seven, so it is a very valuable scheme to individual owners, and has helped to produce a steady throughput of new stallions, many of which are now in the Verderers Stallion Scheme.
FUTURITY SCHEME REVIEW 2013-2023 AND MEASURES OF SUCCESS
A total of 109 colts have been inspected, and of these 65 have been accepted into the Futurity Scheme. These 65 colts had 46 different sires and 57 different dam-sires.
Of these 65 colts, 70%, that is 40 of them, have achieved their 2-year-old stallion licence.
23 stallions have achieved their 5-year-old full stallion licence, plus there are 5 x 2year-old colts newly licensed in 2023, to give 28 currently licensed stallions.
The 28 currently licensed stallions have 21 different sires.
The Scheme has produced 18 Forest-run stallions, and they have 16 different sires. (Excluding the 5 licensed in 2023), of the 35 stallions licensed at 2-years-old, only 3 have not been used for breeding. The 40 licensed stallions have produced 1320 foals (including part-bred) up to and including 2022. Show Results: there have been
3 x Cranesmoor Cup wins and 3 x Cranesmoor Cup Reserves; 3 x Shobley wins and 3 x Shobley Reserves.

POINT TO POINT 2023 REPORT
The preparation for this year’s event started soon after last year’s had finished. We had a wash up meeting with Forestry England and as a result of complying with theirs and Natural England’s requirements we have been given an assent from NE for 5 years which will considerably reduce the administrative burden on our PTP committee although we clearly still need to obtain an annual permission from FE.
Our sub committee started meeting in the autumn when we amended some aspects of the schedule before taking to main council for approval. Our course setter this year for the first time was Robert Stride and he met up with FE representatives to gain their approval for our permission, of course tradition dictates that no-one apart from Robert knows the course before the day.
As we moved through November, entries began to come in to both the society office and here at home and when the sub committe met again in early December entries had closed at 82. As a result we divided both the older childrens and novice races.
In the run up to Xmas the weather was awful with driving rain most days, when the ground crew met a few days before Boxing Day the finish car parks were organised and with Robert putting signs and mats in place just before the day we were ready to go.
Fortunately for us the day itself was both bright and mild, we met at Ashurst Campsite, a really excellent location with plenty of space and hard standing. The children moved a short distance away to start close to the water trough at Home Farm, Ashurst whilst the adults were taken over the A35 to start between Fox Hill and Fair Cross, not many people knew where they were there.
The races themselves produced a triumphant result for the Dovey/Lovell family with four of their ponies winning whilst there were also successes for regular winners Anita Smith, Heidi Whetren and Jake Moore who was first over the line in the combined Ladies and Colthunters Race. There were also wins for Faith Shore, Cassidy Francis, Sonja Waite & Abbie Horsburgh.
Apart from an accident to a pony in the children’s race which fortunately had a happy ending, all ponies and riders returned home safely, trophies were presented by Leanne Sargeant on behalf of Society President Jonathan Gerrelli and we will soon start preparations for 2024!

THE NORTHERN NEW FOREST PONY SUPPORTERS’ GROUP 2023
It’s been a busy year for northern breed supporters.
For the first time in a number of years the Breed Society held a northern colt inspection, at Camden Equestrian Centre, by kind permission of owner Micky Welling. Eight stallion owners presented colts for inspection and attracted quite a lot of spectator interest. It was very encouraging to see so many potential stallions coming forward for licensing outside the Forest. The colt with the top marks on the day was Backley Dream Boy, a three-year-old, owned by Adam Cooper and now resident in Lancashire.
Although entries were down at the Northern Show held in April, again at Camden Equestrian Centre near York, in conjunction with NPS Area 4, Steph Peto’s ridden gelding Portmore Downburst was a worthy Supreme Champion, with Diane Hadwen’s Highfox Heaven Sent in Reserve; Heaven Sent went on to stand British Isles and NPS Area 4 Reserve Supreme Champion In-Hand.
The Supporters’ annual Christmas meal and points presentation was well attended at a new venue, the Boothwood Inn, Ripponden in December. Congratulations to this year’s overall points winner Lomondside Jolene, owned and bred by Pat and Liz Rennie in Scotland. Jaquie McLeod, based in Wales and her young mare Mighells Dittany, had a super competition season, trying their hand at all sorts of disciplines (among many other things the pair won the in hand competition pony class at this year’s Breed Show). They were Versatility Champions and took the Reserve Supreme spot.
Jaquie, Pat and Liz are all founder members of the Supporters Group and very successful breeders of New Forest ponies. Relatively new to the Breed, are Sally Strachan and her daughter Amelia Dumbleton, based in Yorkshire, they bred their first foals this year and registered their new prefix Waterside Scout, a pure bred (Willoway Free Spirit x Whiteladies Question Time) and a part bred Waterscout Neville (Spring Pond Merryman x Buttslawn Charisma). It’s great to see another embryonic stud in the North of England.

New Forest Livestock Society
The New Forest Livestock Society (NFLS) were pleased to see the return of the face-to-face pony sales at the Beaulieu Road saleyard after a three-year absence in June 2023. The return to the saleyard attracted much attention from the public in the traditional half term week, as well as a good number of perspective buyers. The atmosphere was positive, energised and the sun was shining. Richard Deakin, NFLS Director welcomed everyone back to the saleyard after this challenging three-year absence and paid thanks to all the many contractors, organisations and individuals who had played a vital part in the reinstatement of the site from the arson attack.
The June sale saw a comprehensive catalogue provided by Southern Counties Auctioneers (SCA) that was available online and included a photo and full description of parentage for many animals entered which has been positively received by perspective purchasers.
The summer months rolled on and the September sale came and went. However, just when everyone thought things had returned to ‘normal’, it became clear there were outbreaks of strangles reported within the close vicinity and it was decided by both the NFLS and SCA to revert to online sales for the remainder of the year. A difficult decision after the face-to-face had returned earlier in the year but the right decision to prevent further spreading of the disease.
The auctioneers did a fantastic job of transferring entries for the October sale to the online platform in a very short timeframe. This sale was followed by another online sale ending in December.
1 st June sale with Youngstock pre-sale show
There were 45 animals forward across the sections (Section 1 registered New Forest; Section 2 part bred New Forest ponies and Section 4 other horses / ponies / donkeys). With some quality animals forward, trade was not disappointing starting sharply and remaining throughout the sale. There were purchasers from across the country although many sold did stay local. Rushmoor Easter, a bay registered forest bred New Forest two-year-old filly, was the top price of the day selling for £2320 in Section 1. Other top prices for registered New Forest included a six-yearold bay gelding Jades Fire Fly fetching £1900 and a liver chestnut mare Jades Bell of the Ball making £1420.
Prior to the start of the sale, the NFLS held a pre-sale youngstock show for registered New Forest ponies judged by Mrs Rebecca Diamond, an independent judge. There were two classes (one for yearling fillies, colts, and geldings and the other for two- and three-year fillies, colts, and geldings). The highest placed Forest Bred animal from each class then went forward to a championship. Finally, there was an Overall Championship were the top two from both classes came forward. Overall Champion was Rushmoor Haven and Forest Bred Champion Rushmoor Easter.
21st September sale
The September sale saw 55 entries forward with 31 entries in Section 1 registered New Forest. This section was made up of a small number of foals together with a good number of older geldings and fillies. Despite fewer entries and less people in attendance, there was a firm trade throughout the day. Top price in Section 1 went to a bay four-year old gelding Canando Sky Ray at £1500; and six-year-old liver chestnut mare Farriers Florentine for £1410. It was, however, the Miniature Mediterranean yearling jack donkey that caught the crowd fetching £1420 and an Appaloosa yearling filly also fetching £1420 in Section 4. Overall registered New Forest colt foals averaged £360 and filly foals £400.
8 th November online sale
Reverting back to an online sale at short notice, there were some 96 entries forward with 42 in Section 1. As expected, Section 1 saw many foals for the time of year where colt foals outnumbered the fillies and a small number of registered older ponies. Prices remained consistent throughout, top prices in Section 1 went to a bay four-year gelding Millersford Sweet William at £1450, brown colt foal Pacey Hunky Dory £880 and bay filly foal Hilltop Tiffany £780. Overall registered New Forest colt foals averaged £380 and filly foals £580.
6th December online sale
The final sale of the year saw some 95 entries forward with 66 entries in Section 1 which was made up of a good number of foals but with a few older ponies still coming forward looking for new homes. Section 1 prices included a roan four-year gelding Sunnyside Spiderman fetching top price of the day at £2250, a dun filly foal Buckland Moira £1050 and brown colt foal Sabinas Storm Catcher £600. However, prices were more varied than previous sales with registered colt foals averaging £230 and filly foals £700.

The Committee
The NFLS has taken on board of all the comments about incorporating online bidding at the face-to-face sales. Discussions have been taking place between the auctioneers and the NFLS. There are many hurdles to overcome, not just the technology. Discussions continue.
Throughout the year the NFLS committee has worked hard to progress with general maintenance and tidying of the saleyard which included a working morning in March where some of our ‘Young Colts’ came along and helped, learning the ropes for the future from their parents and grandparents, what a great delight to see. There is also a new designated disabled area providing close view of the ring. Please respect this area for those who comply.
Finally, a huge thank to the NFLS Directors and NFLS committee members for the support and help throughout the year.
Lucinda Lang Chairman, NFLS
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
As a registered charity, the Society has a legal requirement to show that it has an educational programme.
At the 2023 spring Colt Inspection, Suzanne Kempe and Malcolm Fry each led a group of four Young Commoners on a ‘walk-through’, giving them a more detailed behind the scenes insight into what is involved in the preparation and presentation of a colt for inspection.
A successful Young Judges series of training, culminating in a competition at the Breed Show.
The Show Unit and the CDA Young Commoners took it out around the Forest on a number of occasions during the summer. Brian and Marion Ingram took it to Open Farm Sunday at Brixeys Farm, Ringwood.
The Show Unit was used again to host our usual publicity stand in the Heart of the Forest area at the New Forest Show,
YOUNG JUDGES TRAINING AND COMPETITION
Back in March, the first of our young judges training sessions were held at Ford Farm, with James and Trudy kindly donating ponies for us to look at. Malcolm Fry and I along with Wendy Adams spent a couple of hours talking the group about the process we would go through, general aspects of breed type and conformation. At the time the majority of the young judges were quiet, shy and unconfident in their own abilities. However after the conclusion if the training sessions throughout the season, we could see nothing but confidence growing in them. We held the competition at the end of the first day of the breed show.
Although only 4 were able to participate in the competition on the Saturday, there was no lacking ability, the 4 girls stood confidently out in the ring to assess the ponies in front of them.
Helen Duffield and Malcolm Fry, the 2 assessors for the competition interviewed each of the young judges separately and found their eventual overall winner and recipient of the Brian Wilson memorial trophy in 14 yr old Erin Dowling, with their runner up Izzy Bennett. Both Helen and Malcom agreed that all the young judges had done extremely well and were able to give reasoning and show knowledge during their questioning.
On the Monday of the breed show Erin then joined judge Gill Wright during the judging of the Supreme Championship. Thanks to Gill for being incredibly nurturing and taking her time to play a part in encouraging our younger generation. We hope that after the success of this year, that we can grow this competition in years to come. Lyndsey Hayter

REPORT ON THE NEW FOREST PERFORMANCE PONY OF THE YEAR COMPETITION 2023
As always a lovely chance to highlight the breed across the UK and into Scotland,Wales and the IOW the Performance Points competition really shows the versatility of the New Forest pony. Entrants took part in a huge range of competitions from BE Eventing to fun Handy Pony events. Although entries were up on last year we hope to simplify the score sheets to encourage a few more to take part.
Congratulations to Amy Crosby from Cambridgeshire, and Parkchurch Holly Berry who compete at a high level in showjumping, eventing and dressage, not only winning the overall but also the Show jumping Cup and the Forest bred.
In very close second was Sonja Waite with Silverlea Sweet Dreams who spend much of their year representing NFPEC in teams as well as fitting in some drifting and hunting.
Third was the stallion Willoway Double O Seven and Martine Harding who also won the WHP Tankard.
Fourth was Jane Keats competing for the first time on Rowdown High Tide who gained points from Endurance,Dressage, Eventing and Show jumping.
Fifth was Jaqui Mcleod from Wales, giving her young pony Meghells Dittany a range of competition experience. Incidentally this mare is by the Breed Show Supreme Champion Peronne Notorious
Milly Stride rode a different pony this time with Cuckoopen Merlin finishing in 6[th] Place and claiming the Best Junior prize.
In seventh place was another young mare-this time from Scotland Lomondside Jolene who also won the Dressage Cup and the Owner Breeder prize for her owners Pat and Liz Rennie
Valerie Attrill from the IOW entered two ponies-Thatchers Alexander-eighth in this section and Cameron Prince Hal second in the partbred section.
Although not amassing the most points the pony that gained points in the most sections was Stanswood Sailor and therefore winner of the Versatility Tankard
We would like to see more entries in the Partbred section where Blackwell No Limits was a worthy winner clocking up points in a wide range of disciplines
Congratulations to you all

PERFORMANCE GRADES 2024 – DRESSAGE AND EVENTING This applies to both pure-bred and part-bred New Forest ponies
DRESSAGE GRADES can be achieved in two ways:

In November 1998, after the loss of my mum’s pony, a trip to the Tillyers was in order to cheer us up and it was here I met a very unassuming 5 year old plain black pony. I rode Jesse out a few times, jumping on him bareback to ride back from the field with just the headcollar. He was broken late as a 5 year old and so this very green pony was quite obliging to my fearless 11 year old self. Little did I know that a plan was being hatched between my parents and the Tillyer family, a Christmas surprise awaited me...a pony at the bottom of the garden, having been snuck through the garage in the middle of the night! I won my first rosette days later at the Fortune Centre, it was only a 2’3 clear round but I still have that rosette!
On good advice we took things very slowly. but soon enough Jesse was proving himself to be a very talented and valiant companion, he was fast, sharp and brave and could turn 180 degrees at speed! We would regularly squeeze through gaps and make turns that the show jumping course designers thought was impossible...it became a challenge! We excelled in various competitions: everything from BSJA up to Foxhunters, the Dengie Winter League Championships, Trailblazers Championships, Knightwood Challenge and Festival of the Horse Hunter Trial Championships, barrel racing at Esso and Mopley Riding Club, chase me charlie, hunting, eventing and dressage, Pony Club rallies and camps, to handy pony...a fantastic, versatile and well-travelled pony indeed.
My absolute personal best dressage score of 21 is still held by Jesse, achieved at Rockbourne for one of the many Pony Club Horse Trials held there. A lot of our success I attribute to the jumping of every size and shape gorse bush, log, ditch, river and occasionally even the fence at Crabhat Pound. He would literally jump anything across the forest which made him brave, bold and sure footed. Jesse was also a regular face out on the local drifts at Blackfield and Culverly and we raced in several of the children’s races, coming a respectable 2[nd] place!
I then went off to university and Jesse went on loan, first locally for a year where he knuckled down on dressage and more eventing competitions, then to good family friends for 10 years up to Warwickshire. He also has a reputation for being a jumping machine in the Warwickshire branch of the Pony Club, taking two girls from lead rein ponies up to decent level competition in all disciplines. After the girls had moved on to horses their mum also competed with him...eventing at 90cm up to the age of 23!
Jesse then moved back to us in the New Forest, initially to retire from hard work, but he didn’t want to stop...so we had a cheeky outing to the Breed Show where we won the 2’9 jumping! He then settled into bringing on another two young girls, with more outings to places such as Tweseldown and Bovington into his late 20’s!
Wanstead Tarquin Moon (1992 – 2023)
New Forest pony breeders and enthusiasts were saddened to hear of the loss of Wanstead Tarquin Moon, homebred stud stallion at the Wanstead Stud in North Wales, his home for 31 years. Tarquin was bred by long time New Forest enthusiast Jacquie McLead, one of the founding members of the Northern New Forest Pony Supporters Group. He was a fabulous all round performance pony, with a lovely temperament and was running with mares until Jaquie lost him in May 2023.
Moortown Firefox (1992-2023)
Sire Randalls Fire Dam Knightwood Bramble (Breeder Miss E Wright)
I am sad to report the loss of Firefox (Fox) in February last year. Old age had finally caught up with him and it was time to let go.
I bought this lovely pony from his breeder, Liz Wright, as a 2yo in September 1994.
He had a superb temperament and settled into his new home straight away.
Although only lightly shown both in hand and under saddle in breed and mixed Mountain and Moorland Classes he was rarely unplaced and had quite a few wins.
Two of his most notable successes were at the New Forest and Hants County Show where in 2000 he won the breed novice ridden class for 14.2hh and under. He came back in 2001 and went on to win the equivalent open class. He was equally versatile when competing in dressage, riding club classes and show jumping. Although ridden by different jockeys of all ages throughout his long life, he always put his best hoof forward taking into account his rider’s level of ability.
After some years as a happy hacker with me he came out of competition retirement at the age of 24 to teach a friend’s daughter the ropes. He competed in walk and trot dressage and was placed in the Championship of the Sunshine Tour held at Petley Wood Equestrian Centre. He was also Junior Dressage Champion at Rother Valley Riding Club with his young rider.
It was an honour to have owned a pony who gave so much pleasure to the many people who had contact with him and he is sorely missed. A true Forester and a credit to his breed.
Copsemead Tadgh
Foaled May 1992 in Burley out of Beacon Midge x Silverlea Mighty Don. Tad was purchased from Beaulieu Road sales - a big dark bay foal. He grew on well and made 14.2hh. He was a wonderful pony - has been part of our family for 32 years. Many others have come & gone through the years. Tad always stayed - I think because he never excelled at anything except maybe keeping all newcomers in their place! He was always boss. He was the stand in if we were one short at a PC rally but he didn’t enjoy them & adopted “donkey mode”. Jumping was not worth the effort unless hounds were involved. He could then nearly jump you off! And woe betide you if we stood still for too long! Another trick that amused him was rolling -usually in muddy puddles although ponds & streams were ok too. There was no warning - his knees buckled & down he went.
He was in his element riding out on the Forest, ears always pricked, his world. The only times he was shod was for the Point to Point. He ran the children’s race several times, coming 2nd when the winner took a short cut. 3 miles was a bit far for him but he enjoyed the atmosphere. In his later years he escorted youngsters out & excelled at ride & lead. His cheeky face watching across the field will be missed.
Bowerwood Panache M52/018 2010 (Willoway Highland Malt / Bowerwood Precious)
Owned & bred by Rae Turner.
She was named after Tilly Philpott (Hyde), who I bought her grandmother Hyde Poppet from.
I did not start work on Tilly until she was nearly 5 as I was finishing another pony, but Tilly was so good and loved her lessons. The next spring I took her to an endurance ride to do the shortest distance (approximately 10 miles), she was amazing and I had my first canter on her, so comfortable like her dad. Later that autumn Tilly was lucky to win a large breeds M&M class then go champion. Along came Covid and so my operation cancelled! In the meantime Tilly was put in foal and she had a colt foal by Knavesash Harley (B Presley) and was a very good mum. Because I was going to downsize and move Tilly came to a livery yard here in Dumfries where she was ridden by my friend Karen McGowan, who did some dressage and jumping with good results. Later her son William took over and was ready to do some competitions this year, but this was sadly not to be. Tilly is so missed by us all. Rae Turner
Sabinas Monte Carlo 2001-2023 (Sabinas Gold Sovereign / Silverlea Halina). Owned & bred by Sabine AndreéParsons.
Pony Performance Elite Grading Gold Sabinas Monte Carlo died suddenly from a massive heart attack a week before Christmas. It came as a huge shock to us all as he was really healthy and I don't think he had ever been ill in his whole life. We bred Monty here at Sabinas Stud and he was Sovereign’s first foal. A true gentleman and a family favourite, he was one of the kindest ponies that I have known with huge talent. a true gentleman and a family favourite. He was always very enthusiastic about everything that was asked of him, whether it was dressage, cross country, show jumping , workers, flat riddens or just hacking. Sally Wiggins had him for several years where he excelled with her daughters, gaining BD points. When we had him back, my daughter Kimberley took him on and he gave her enough confidence to venture into showing. He had many successes with various riders on the show circuit. He will be very much missed, but also remembered fondly. Sabine Andreé-Parsons
Haywards Guardsman S48/109 2006 (Long Copse Elton / Matley Cherry by Springmoor Lightning). Bred by Peter & Mandy Pidgley, owned by Jan Kembers. Haywards Guardsman was by Longcopse Elton out of Matley Cherry A fabulous foal and passed well at the stallion passing as a two year old We Exported him to Holland to Mr Jan Kemkers, who instantly fell in love with him. Guardsman had a superb temperament and was seen as a perfect sire for driving ponies and children's ponies He covered mares on his English licence in the first year, then in 2011 he was put forward & approved at the central Hengen inspection and also in 2011 performed in harness, which he loved In 2020 he was awarded a 1st premium based on his offspring and received the prestigious Keur! It's wonderful to see his children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren carrying on his fabulous blood lines and temperament I know Mr Kemkers will miss him so much they had such a bond and kept us in touch with everything he did & we visited Holland to see him & got to present his award in the ring a real honour for Pete & I Mandy and Peter Pidgley

OBITUARIES
The Society records with sadness the passing of:
Rohays Gray, Andrea Dymott, Matthew Gerrelli, John Chalke, William Corke, Stella Hore, Mrs Joyce Penny
John Chalke (1941-2023)
John was a hound man through and through. He learnt his skills from seasoned professionals like John Cook at the Wilton and Tim Langley at the Berkeley. His final appointment was to hunt the New Forest Buckhounds. They were a unique pack of hounds that hunted the fallow buck. The New Forest is a tricky country to ride over, never mind to hunt and follow a pack of hounds. Subsequently John did have the occasional encounter with “the forest floor”! Yet with time, experience and commitment, it all came together and John’s extensive knowledge and ability over several seasons, established a fine pack of hounds.
He was a very sociable person and encouraged many people to come hunting and enjoy the wonderful scenery at the same time. The supporters club had no problem with fundraising and with John at the kennels these important events
kept the social scene thriving. “Chalky” was always compassionate when collecting fallen stock, either with owners or road casualties.
In 1979 the New Forest celebrated its 900[th] anniversary as a Royal hunting park. The Queen and Prince Philip toured the area and when they entered New Park, there were positioned the buckhounds and hunt staff. The royal car slowed to view John, his whipper-in and the hounds.
Ye Olde Fallow Bucke (Hounds Magazine)
John was also a well respected and successful New Forest breeder. He registered 95 ponies with his Wellhouse prefix between 1985 and 2013 including Wellhouse Willum, Jan Mattsson’s very successful champion stallion in Sweden and also HOYS finalist Wellhouse Bradberry, Ridden New Forest Champion at the 2023 New Forest & Hampshire County Show.
Rohays Gray
Picket Post prefix & Commoner
Mum loved everything about the forest but most of all its ponies. Her first pony was called Shandy who was purchased by her late father from Beaulieu Road in the 1950’s. The pony was wild but by the time she had been walked home she was halter broken, she lived to a grand old age of 39 and bred some lovely foals for mum. Mum used her father’s brand H/S and later through her husband Peter Gray acquired the prefix Picket Post, we still have ponies running on the forest.
Mum really enjoyed showing the ponies, the first was Picket Post Peppercorn who qualified for the WHP final at Hoys 2 years running back in the 90’s. One of mums proudest moments was Picket Post Polo winning both the in hand and ridden forest bred championship at the New Forest Show in 2022.
Mum was a committee member of the NFPB & CS for a while and also toured the country with the Pony Publicity Group promoting the New Forest Pony, she loved spending the week at HOYS with Shirley Young with the stand and adored Great Yorkshire Show.
Mum made some of her greatest friends through the ponies and through shows and could always be found at the ice cream van with a trail of children behind her waiting for their ice creams.
Mum bred some lovely versatile ponies all with wonderful temperaments, she is deeply missed and hopefully the ponies will continue to do her proud.

Loxland Amazing Grace
(Applewitch Pure Magic x Sabinas Northern Light) Bred by Julie and Jez Moxon
Loxland Amazing Grace (Gracie) has given me a 2023 to remember achieving things I could only have dreamed about 5 years ago.
Gaining her qualifying scores for the British Dressage Area Festivals first time out, she headed the final at the Onley Grounds Area Festival in the Prelim Freestyle Bronze with over 70% on her first ever attempt, getting the distinctive sash I’ve always loved!
We then headed to the UK Armed Forces championships at Addington where she showed her true all round ability in jumping and dressage as well as winning the Novice Fresstyle to Music (despite being nicknamed Shrimp by everyone others as she was so small compared to everyone else!)
On returning home we came home to the exciting news she had been chosen to represent British Dressage South and East and England at the Senior Home Nations championship at Kelsall. It was so special getting to ride with the St George’s cross on our saddle cloth and jacket on my home produced pony.
Truly a year to remember.

2023 - First season under saddle and proving what a versatile breed the New Forest pony really is!!!
In June we did our first big show and we took the overall Concours d'Elegance Championship at the Elegance Show which was held in Wiltshire - a 4 and half hour drive for us.
We qualified for the National Concours D'elegance society of GB Championship Show (This show is Concours D'elegance equvlaint to HOYS) at Onley Grounds Equestrian Complex on Sunday 3rd September. Here we achieved 1st In-hand open, 2[nd] M&M, 4th Open Ridden and 6th Overall in-hand champion. Not only have these been amazing achievements for us our picture was selected for the 2024 Concours D'elegance society of GB Calendar.
We are looking forward to trying something new for 2024. Genna Mawby
Ashurst Harmony (M39/846)
Sire Okedene Peter Dam Ashurst Favourite
Ashurst Harmony (Chloe) is now 29 years old, I’ve had her since 2009 and in them years we have had all sorts of outings. From cross country to dressage, spider rides to jumping but our favourite activity is showing, this has taken us all over the country, as well as going to Windsor multiple times we love having fun in the veteran classes, sometimes Chloe finds it funny to be as cheeky as she can be in classes which normally results in some comments from the judges who can’t believe she’s the age she is.
We had a lovely time at the New Forest show first time we’ve competed there, we did New Forest ridden under 138 cm and was placed 6th
Really pleased with her seeing as she was 10 + years older all the others in class!
She never fails to put a big grin on my face after every ride!

Vynnes Magical Edition
Sire Applewitch Pure Magic Dam Brookshill Blackberry Owned and bred by Andrew Vine
Laura recounts their magical experience at the Horse of the Year Show:
We never imagined what would be achieved at HOYS 2023 when Team Ed arrived in the NEC car park on Tuesday lunchtime.
We arrived and set up camp for the next couple of days, it wasn’t long before Ed & Pip were heading down for the evening arena practise. We were really pleased with how he coped in the busy arena, as this was the biggest show he had Competed at so far.
Wednesday started very early with a quick arena familiarisation before a final polish up for Ed at the stables, to be ready for the class to start at 7.30am
The class seem to happen very quickly and after the initial go round Ed was in the arena for the conformation part of the class and then moved onto his individual ridden show. He took everything in his stride and didn’t put a foot wrong, we were so pleased and proud of him. I’m sure he thought everyone was there just to watch him.
After being called back in for the prize giving, nerves started kicking in as the results were announced in reverse order, down to the last two and then “Vynnes Magical Edition & Pip Smith” were announced as the Winners!!! We couldn’t believe it…. Ed absolutely loved his lap of honour, showing off his extended trot across the ring. The next few hours passed in a bit of a blur with celebrations and trying to let what had just happened sink in.
We now had the M & M Championship, in the International Arena, to look forward to on the Thursday Evening. Thursday flew by and before we knew it Mr Ed was being tacked up and polished ready for the M&M championship in the International Arena.
It was an absolute pleasure to watch Pip ride Ed so beautifully around that ring. He seemed to really rise to the occasion and absolutely loved the atmosphere. We all know he is a bit of a show off. After all the ponies had gone around in front of the judges, they were lined up in the middle of the ring, ready for the results to be announced. They called out the reserve champion which went to the Dartmoor Westown Wild Fire. The next thing we saw before they announced the champion was Ed’s name appear on the screen. We all looked at each other in disbelief as could this really happen on his HOYS debut? The official announcement then followed. We couldn’t believe they had done it, he looked amazing under the spotlights and we really couldn’t have been prouder of Pip & Ed.
Ed is the second New Forest Pony to win the Mountain & Moorland Championship at HOYS following on from Marleydenes Shiraz in 2014. Shiraz is also sired by Applewitch Pure Magic.
It honestly was a dream come true for all of us and sometimes we still can’t believe it happened. We cannot thank Pip enough for all her hard work with Ed. It’s been an amazing two seasons watching them together.
In December it was a lovely surprise to receive a letter from the NPS advising us we had won the Duntarvie Stud Large Breeds Owner/Breeder Award for being the highest placed M&M large breed that is owned and bred by the same person at HOYS 2023.

Treasurer’s Report 2023
The accounts show a net loss of £2,166, an improvement on last year (loss of £6,641). Given all the changes in the office and additional staff costs, I think this is a good result.
Sundry income includes a legacy of £5000.
The Society supported the New Forest Hounds & their Sock collection service to the tune of £525.
Office rent has increased by £600 following last year’s rent review.
Clerical assistance has increased by £4,100 due to office restructuring. However, our two new members of staff are now trained & working efficiently so we hope that they will have more time available to maximise income.
Office & travel expenses have increased, largely due to an upgrade of the three office computers and purchase of a retirement gift for our Hon Secretary.
The 2022 Point to Point contributed £1,014 to Society funds and, pleasingly, the Annual Show managed to contribute a
Market value of investments is down by £4000 but looking better than last year. Income from investments was up by £1000 on last year. The trustees continue to monitor the investment policy carefully.
Altogether, a promising result considering all the extra costs this year and the Society remains in a strong financial position.

to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of Independent Examiner's Report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view’ and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner's Statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
-
(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements:
-
to keep accounting records in accordance with section 386 of the Companies Act 2006; and
-
to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records, comply with the accounting requirements of section 396 of the Companies Act 2006 and with the methods and principles in the Charities SORP (FRS 102 "The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland")
have not been met; or
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.

Trustees' Report For the year ended 30th November 2024
Governing Document
The Society is a charitable company limited by guarantee, incorporated on 18th August 1997 and registered as a charity on 8th October 1997.
The Society was formed under a Memorandum of Association which established the objects and powers of the Charitable Company and is governed under its Articles of Association. Under those Articles, the trustees are elected at the Annual General Meeting and one-third of their number are subject to retirement by rotation at each Annual General Meeting. The trustees may appoint a person who is willing to act to be a trustee to fill a vacancy until the next Annual General Meeting. A trustee who retires at an Annual General Meeting may, if willing to act, be reappointed.
The liability of the members is limited to such contribution as may be required (not exceeding £11) to the Charity's assets if it should be wound up while he or she is a member or within one year after he or she ceases to be a member, for payment of the Charity's debts and liabilities contracted before he or she ceases to be a member, and of the costs, charges and expenses of winding up, and for the adjustment of the rights of the contributories among themselves.
If the Charity is wound up or dissolved and after all its debts and liabilities have been satisfied there remains any property it shall not be paid to or distributed among the members of the Charity, but shall be given or transferred to some other charity or charities having objects similar to the objects of the Charity.
Appointment of Trustees
The President and other elected officers are appointed at the Annual General Meeting. The other Board members are elected for a three year term, one third retiring annually.
Objectives and Activities
The objects for which the Society is established are:
-
to encourage the preservation and breeding of the best type of New Forest ponies;
-
to undertake to record New Forest ponies and enter them in the New Forest Pony Stud Book;
-
to hold two annual shows, one for entered New Forest stallions, and one for the encouragement and improvement of the breed of entered New Forest ponies.
The Charity's main activities are based at its office in Bransgore where three part-time assistants are employed, supported by officers of the Society. Shows are generally held at New Park, Brockenhurst.
Achievements and Performance
The Charity sees its main achievements as the successful recording of New Forest ponies and the promotion and preservation of the breed.
Financial Review
The net incoming resources for the year amounted to £11,123. This increases the total reserves at the year end to £289,257 which are unrestricted funds.

Trustees' Report
For the year ended 30th November 2024
Reserves Policy
The trustees consider the reserve requirements are adequately met as the income of the society covered its operating costs so that the reserves were not eroded.
Investment Policy
The trustees policy on investment is designed to continue to generate income to enable the society to continue with its objects without exposing the capital funds to any undue level of risk. Investment decisions are taken in conjunction with stockbrokers' advice.
Responsibilities of the Trustees
Company law requires the trustees to prepare financial statements that give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity at the balance sheet date and of its surplus or deficit for the financial year. In doing so the trustees are required to:
-
select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
-
observe the methods and principles in the Charities SORP (FRS 102);
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
-
state whether applicable UK Accounting Standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
-
prepare the accounts on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that the Charity will continue in operation; and
-
fulfill the objects of the Society.
The trustees are responsible for maintaining proper accounting records that disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the company and to enable them to ensure the accounts comply with the Companies Act 2006. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the company and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
Small Company Exemptions
This report has been prepared in accordance with the special provisions of Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006 relating to small companies and was approved by the board on 12th February 2025 and signed on its behalf.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees On the unaudited financial statements of
The New Forest Pony Breeding and Cattle Society
I report on the unaudited financial statements of the society for the year ended 30th November 2024 which comprise the Statement of Financial Activities, the Balance Sheet and related notes.
Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner
The trustees (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
Having satisfied myself that the charity is not subject to audit under company law and is eligible for independent examination, it is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act;
-
to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and
-
to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
