Messaie from the Chairman and Chlef Executive
From the rising of the sun to the ploce where it sets, the nome of the Lord is to be proi5ed.
Psalm 113'.3
For many of us, 2022 saw the sun set on a long and stable era, yet It also opened the door to new beglnnin85.
The End of an Era
JolnlnB with million5 across the natSon and Commonwealih, the MAF family reflected on the life and reign of
Her Malesty Queen Ellzabeth 11, drawing much Inspiration from her falth, dedbcation, and selfles5 service to
Christ. While few can compare to her stablllty, longevity, and influence, we at MAF have been encouraged
by Her Majesty's legacy te pres5 on unwaveiln8ly into our calling- which is to See Chflst's love change the
lives of Isolated people. In so doln& we have been grateful to launch a variety of exciting new projects In
2022 thanks to our generous SUPPOTters, as well as brlnginB some chapters to a natural close.
Closer to home at MAF UK, another era drew to a close as we said farewell to Ruth Whltaker, who Served a5
CEO for 16 years. Ruth's passbon for avlatlon and dedication to Chr15t was reflected in the stabllity and trust
MAF has establlshed across the UK and wlder MAF famlly throughout her leadershlp.
New Beilnnln8S
We re￿ICed it the dawning of a new season for MAF In Gulnea, as we cornpleted our Inaugural fllght for the
new programme on the 23, of Aprll 2022. The C208 alrcraft formally served in Mongolla and after varlou5
modlflcatlons to prepare it for the cllmate In Llberla, was ferried down to Afrlca and into the programme. It
was a complex and evocative ferry flighi - whlch flew above parts of the Nlle Iraced by MAF co-founders
Stuart King and Jack Hemmings in 1948. Now the flr5t non-8overnmental aif operator to fly In Gulnea. MAF
has already recehed requests from dozens of charltles and medical groups to help transport ￿lief 5ervlces
and c3r80 to Isolated parts of the country.
The flTSt MAF passengers to take flight in April were grateful and privileged to be part of the momentous day
a two-day road irlp made posslble In lust over a few hours thanks to MAF. Theysald.. "We have been praying
for an air service since we 8Ot here over a decade ago. There are no domestic alrcraft In Gulnea, so we have
to drlve- but it is the single most Stressful aspett of life for us. It Is dehumanlslng and demorallslng. MAF wlll
be a Itfesaver..
Also new In 2022 was a new hangar at our base In Mareeba, Queensland, Australla whlch wlll enable us to
better serve the people of the Asia.PaclfSc region.
Ml$$lon Accompllshed
In 2022 we marked the end of another Important era.. our 25-year operation in Bangladesh.
Born In the aftermath of one of the world's deadliest ngtural disasters of the 19705, the MAF programme In
Bangladesh wa5 a response to Cyclone Bhola, which claimed the lives of half a million people. These early
fllghis were the first of dozens of dlsaster response flights whlch we have undertaken over the years and
whlch have saved countless lives endangered by floods, tsunamls and cyclones in the world's most populated
nation.
Our fllght seryices in the country have reached mllllons of Isolated people In mlnutes rather than days using
two amphibiou5 Ce55na aircraft. However, dramatic irnprovements to the country's infrastructure have
reduced the need for our Service.

As MAF International CEO Dave Fyock concluded in August.. "We celebrate with the peoplè of Ban8ladesh the
progress that has been made and are glad for the dramatbc difference thi5 will make to the region. Closure of
the Bangladesh programme will release re50urce5 to invest in new opportunities where we can make a more
significant difference.
L¢okin8 io the Future
In 2022 we unveiled a new webslte, which wlll Integrate with our new CRM database and help us to better
Serve the needs of our supporters and dellvef them the most appropriate. relevant Information. The CAM is
n excitlng development for the organisation as it offer5 increased insight into how our donors are 8fvln&
identifying trends and patterns and will support us to deliver the most relevant and effective messagin8 to
our audlences.
Another exciting milestone wa5 the reciuitment of our first young pilot to MAF-UK'S Future Pilot Scherne-
brand new initlalive whlch we hope wlll enable us to unlock talented future pllots to serve with MAF In the
years to come.
We also pralse God for the donor who gave us a signiflcant gift in memory of hls wlfe to allow us to fully fund
the purchase of a Cessna 208 alrcraft. Worklng together wlth our colleagues In the USA, the new addition to
the fleet has received the nece55ary modlflcatlons to prepare It for servlce In West Afrlca In 2023.
In the second part of the year, MAFI unvelled thelr vlslon of how they would Ilke the mlsslon to evolve over
the next decade. Part of these plans15 3 bulldln8 project In PNG, provldlng houslng for more staff members.
The programme In PNG ha5 ambitious plans to further Increase the impact in that country, and provlding
sultable accommodatlon for more staff is vital to those development plans. We were humbled by a large gllt
from a major donor whlch was used as match fundlng, allowlng us to make an encoura8ln8 start to this malor
Capital projeci.
As ever, we are so grateful to our Lord lor eauslng the sun to both rlse and set on every aspect of MAF'S work.
In particular, we are 8rateful for HIS provlslon of..
£16m of Sncorne
£4.9m of legacy income
30 oversea5 staff
We count It a privilege to partner with so many Inspiring organisations, churches and indlvlduals across the
world to make sure that the pralses due HIS name are echoed across the furthest corners of ihe world. It
never ceases to amaze us just how falthful, commltted and unwaverlng the prayers and gifts of so many have
been to allow thls life-saving ministry to continue to 8row.
We trust that, In the Operatlonal Impact Section of the Trustee Report, you'll be Insplred as you read some
of the storle5 of the Work made possible by God's unfailin8 goodnes5 and your sacrificial 8ift5 and prayers.
The stories provide a brief snapshot of how some of the world's Poorest and hardest-to-reach people were
able to receive God'5 peace. protectlon and provision throughout 2022.
We look forward to everything that He ha5 in slore for us, and every new beglnnln8 which we wlll embark on

In many countrles, insecuiity can render road travel hlghly dangerous. MAF'S fleet of Ilght aircraft enables
acce5S to remote communitie5. connecting those in need with those that can help. Even in places where itls
safe to travel, there may be no roads or, If road5 do ex15t, they can become Impassable for months at a tlme
due to natural dlsaster5, adverse weather condltion5 and confllct.
Operatlonal Impact
MAF'S rnis5ion is to see i501ated people changed by the love of Chrlst and we serve together to brln8 help,
hope and heallng through avlatlon. We swlftly and efflclently fty people and organlsatlons to communllles
that are hard to reach, or cut off, due to geo8raphlcal barrlers, nalural dlsasters, war and conflkt.
In 2022, MAF flew over 6 mlllion kllometres carryin8 humanharlan rellef and Spiritual hope lo areas that a

The following are example5 of lust some of the activltles carrled out by MAF pro8ramme5 in Arnhem Land,
Chad, Guinea, Kenyo, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, South Sudan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste and Uganda. The
Storle5 8lve a flavour of the flights that took place in 2022-showlng how, despite the changes and challenges
presented during the year, MAF coniinued to brlng help, hope and healln8 to th05e Ilvlng In some of the
world's pOO￿$t and remotest reglons.
En•blln8 educatlon in Arnhem Land
In Arnhem Land, whose tSny populatlon of 16,000 is 8eogr3phlcally spread out, our flight5 enabled hundreds
of indigenous Students to access a culturally appropriate education. For the students of Nhulunbuy Hi8h
School thi5 has meant that Instead of a 6 hour journey overland, they can re3ch thelr school In lust 40
minutes, thanks to a MAF fllght. We also transported teachers, students, supplies. resources, and staff to the
remote Homelands throughout Australia's Northern Territory so Yolr]u students could obiain a wider
education in the comfort of a traditional famlly envlronmeni. According to one of MAF'S principal partners.
the Asslstant Printipal of Laynhapuy Homelands School, 'Driving would take too much time out of a teacher's
day, $0 ivs much better for us to fly. We rely on MAF because they're so flexible.,

Carrylng out medevacs and encouraglng Chrlstlans in Chad
In Chad, where- without MAF - there is no effectlve way to reach remote clinics, Fanfina suffered a heart
attack at her home. After two days at the local hospital, her condition became critical and FaTrfina needed to
reach the capital for urgent, life-saving medical attention. Because a 372-mile overland journey would have
taken 12 hour5, her husband called MAF. Pilot Becki Dillingham, who airlifted Fanfina, confirmed the dire
state of the road5, commenting, 'You can see the potholes from the air, they're that bigl, Three weeks later,
Fanflna was discharged from the hospiial in N'Djamena- our flight having helped save her life. Her husband
thanked us, saying, 'Fanfina is alive today thanks to this rapld evacuation and effective caie. We afe very
grateful to the staff of MAF forthls flight. God bless you rlchly.,
We also Ilew Pastor Justin, who's committed to serving unre)ched people, and fegularly flies wlth u5 to
eastern Chad fiom the capital. A particularly effectlve MAF trlp Sn 2022 enabled him to vlslt the Runga
new, unreached people group. When Justin shared his vlsion to send missionaries to their villaBes, he was
allowed to call the Runga chiefs and ask them to re¢elve his tearn. The frultful trip concluded with Iu5tln
visiting the leaders of four Run8a villages, praylng wlth them, and explaining that he could Introduce them to
people who would show them more produdive and sustainable ways to grow their crops.
Helplng Blble translators, mlsslonarles and frult 8rowers In Gulnea
In Guinea, our most recently opened programme, only 5% of the roads are paved and there's no rallway
network. MAF Pllot Roy Ri5sanen flew a ieam of missionaries seeking to provide a 300,000-strong unreached
people group with the Scriptures In their own language. The team left a remote part of the country and flew
to the capltal 50 they could attend a quarterly team meetlng the two-hour journey saving thern two days
of 8ruellin8 road travel. 'We've been praying for transportation since we got here over a decade ago,, the
misslonarles explalned. There are no domestlc alfcraft In Gubnea, so we have to drlve. We drlve and we cryl
MAF wlll be a life-saver. Drlvln8 at night is very dangerous and the mountain passes are dangerously narrow.
We never take a trip where we don't see an overturned vehicle along the way.,
Later flights In our newest programme saw MAF pblots transporting a patlent suffering from suspected
appendic4tls to a h05Pltal run by mlssionaries and deliverln8 tropical Irult trees to an agricultural project
almln8 to Improve nutrltlon In an Impoverlshed area.

In Kenya, where aboLtt 74% of the populatlon live In areas where hea￿h¢are Is extremely Ilmlted, MAF flew
ten eye 5pecialist5 and surgeons to Marsabit. The 2-hour trip saved them at least 2 days by road and allowed
more than 1,700 people to be screened for eye-related dlsorder5. The free medlcal camp, whlch was
organised by MAF Kenya, The Fred Hollows Foundation, Christian Blind Misslon, the County Government of
Marsabit and the Kenyan Ministry of Heaith, enabled isolated villagers to receive free medicine and eye
drops. It also provlded 220 patlents wlth an operation that reversed the bllndnes5 caused by cataracts.
Another MAF flight helped Rev Purity from Chrlst is the Answer Mlnistrles ICITAMI to visit thelr prolect5 In
northern Kenya. CITAM, in partnership with Mbsslons of Hope Internatlonal, delivers quality education, with
some of its Sludents going on to pursue theological training. Because most of the roads are poor, our fllghts
save their Staff hours of overland travel. Purity, who w35 looklng ai setting up sanitatlon, health and
flnancial empowerment prolects, sald the 8oal is for the people they a5515t to eventually take over. 'People
from our congregations are willing to go,, she noted, 'but they aren't willing to spend all their tlme on the
road. But if MAF helps us fty from one statlon to the next, we can achieve a lot.

Audhorfs Re5ponslbllltles for the audit of the financlal statements
We have been appolnted as auditor under Section 44llllcl of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotlandl
Act 2005, the Companies Att 2(X)6 and Section 151 of the Charities Act 2011 and report to you in iccordance
with regulations made under those Acts.
Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financlal statements as a whole are
free from malerlal mlsstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an audltor's report that includes
oui opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of 35surance, but 15 not a 8uarantee that an audit conducted
in accordance with ISAS IUKI will always detect a mateiial mlsstatement when It exlst5. Misstatements can
arlse from fraud or error and are considered material rf, individually or In aggregate, they could reasonablv
be expeded to influence the economic decision5 of users taken on the basis of these flnanclal statements.
As part of an audit In accordance with ISAS IUKI we exercise profe55i0nal Judgement and rnalntaln
profe55ional 5cepliclsm throughout the audlt. We also:
Identlfy and asse55 the rlsks of materlal mlsstatement of the flnanclal statement5, whether due to
fraud or error, design and perform audlt procedure5 responsive to those risks, and obtain audlt
evidence that15 sufficient and approprlate to provide a bas15 for our oplnlon. The rlsk of not detectlng
a material mi5Statement resultlng from fraud Is hlgher than for one resuliing from error, as fraud
may Involve colluslon, forgery, Intentlonal omisslons, misrepresentations, or the overrlde of internal
control.
Obtain an understandlng of Internal tontrol relevant to the audlt In order to deslgn audlt procedures
that are approprlate In the clrcumstances, but not for the purp05e5 of expressing an oplnlon on the
effectiveness of the charitable company's Internal control.
Evaluate the appropriateness of accountin8 policies used and the reasonableness of accountlng
eslimales and related disclosures made by the trustees.
Conclude on the appropriateness of the iru5tee5' use of the going concern bas15 of accounting and,
based on the audit evbdence obtalned, whether a materlal uncertainty exists related to event5 or
condition5 that may cast Si8nificant doubt on the charltable company'5 abillty to contlnue as a golng
concern. If we conclude that a materlal uncertalnty exlsts, we are requlred to draw attention in our
auditorfs report to the related disclosures In the financial statements or, If such dis¢105ures are
Inadeqtsate, to modify our oplnion. Our conclusions are based on the audit evldence obtalned up to
the date of our audltorfs report. However, future events or condltlons may cause the charitable
company to cease to contlnue as a going concern.
Evaluate the overall presentation, structure and content of the financlal statements. Including the
disclosures, and whether the financial statements represent the underlyin8 tran5action5 and events
Sn a manner that achieve5 fair presentation.
We communlcate with those charged with governance regarding. amon8 Other matter5, the planned scope
and timing of the audit and significant audit finding5, including any slgnificant deficiencie5 in internal control
that we Identify during our audlt.
Page 22

Mission Aviation Fellowship UK- Annual Report & Accounts 2022
Explanation asto what extent the audit wasconsldered capable of detectlng Irregularltles, Includlng fraud
Irregularities, Inclutllng fraud, are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We design
procedures in line with our responsibilities. outllned above, to detect materlal mlsstatemenis in respect of
Irregulaiities. including fraud. The extent to which our procedures are capable of detecting Irregularities,
including fraud is detailed below.
The objectives of our audtt in respect of fraud, are,. to identify and assess the risks of material mi5Statement
of the financial statements due to fraud,. to obtaln sufficient approprlate audlt evidence regarding the
assessed ilsks of materlal misstatement due io fraud, through designing and Implementing appropriate
responses to those assessed rlsks,. and to respond appropriately to Instances of fraud or suspected fraud
Identified during the audit. However, the prlmary re5ponslbility for ihe prevention and detection of fraud
rest5 Wlth both management and those chaTBed with governance of the charitable companv.
Our approach was as follows:
We obtalned an under5tandlng of the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to the charitable
company and considered that the most s18nlflcant are the Companle5 Act 2006, the Charitles Act
2011, the Charlty SORP, the Charities and Trustee Investment1Scotlandl Act 2005 las amendedl,
re8ulaiions 6 and 8 of the Charities Accounts (Scotlandl Re8ulatlon$ 2W6 las amended) and UK
flnancial reporting Standards as155ued by the Flnanclal Reporting Councll.
We obtalned in understandlng of how the charltable company complles wlth these requlrements by
dlstusslons wlth management and those charged wlth governance.
We a55essed the rlsk of material misstatement of the flnanclal statements. includlng the risk of
material misstatement due to fraud and how It might occur, by holdlng dlscusslons wlth management
and Ihose charged wlth governance.
We Inqulred of mana8ernent and those char8ed wlth governance a5 to any known Instances of non-
compllance or suspected non-compllance wlth law5 and regulations.
Based on this understandingi we designed specific appropriate audlt procedures to identify Instances
of non-tompllance wlth laws and regulatlons. Thls included makin8 enqulrles of managernent and
those charBed wlth governance and obtaining additlonal corroborative evidence as required.
There are inherent Ilmltatlons In the audlt procedures descrlbed above. We are less likely to become aware
of instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations ihat are not closely related io events and
transactlons reflected in the financial staternent5. Also, the risk of not detecting a materlal mlsstaternent due
to fraud is hi8her than the risk of not detectin8 one re5ultin8 from error, as fraud may involve deliberate
concealment by, for example, forgery or Intentlonal misrepresentatlons, or through collu510n.
