## **ANNUAL REPORT of the Trustees for the year ending 30[th] September 2020** _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Silk Road Ministries International has continued its work and ministries, in spite of the Covid-19 disruptions of the past six months. Rev. William and Mrs. Jeanne Campbell, the SRM International representatives, have given oversight, encouragement, and training to the Director and staff of the Hope House Organization (HHO) Cambodia, and the Principals of the Myanmar Vision Christian College (MVCC) and Calvary Theological and Missions Academy (CTMA) in Myanmar. **MYANMAR.** In October 2019, electric poles were installed, and electricity connected to the Calvary Boarding Center, Kanpetlet, S. Chin State. The provision of electricity has made a huge difference to the students, staff, and the overall activities at the Center and surrounding community. In early December 2019, Rev. Campbell was in Myanmar where he was joined by Pastor Tim Kerlin and Mark Lo, from Melbourne, Australia. Tim and Mark lectured at the MVCC and CTMA college campuses and then travelled with Rev. Campbell to the Southern Chin State to attend the annual CTMA students and staff retreat. This was held at the new site of the Calvary Boarding Center, in Kanpetlet. During the visit, CTMA staff and students presented a special musical drama at which the parents and interested friends were guests. There were 34 boarders registered, who have been subsequently shielding in their homes for the past several months because of Covid-19. Final plans were made for the construction of the girls’ dormitory which was the main project for 2020. The building was completed at the end of March, making it possible to increase boarding numbers. In February 2020, Covid-19 was spreading rapidly around the world. However, Rev. Campbell was able to travel to Myanmar for the annual graduation ceremony at CTMA. While there, the Government of the Union of Myanmar reported the first case of the virus. Within three days medical officers arrived at the hotel to check the temperature of staff and guests. MVCC postponed their graduation ceremony until 2021. The commencement of the 2020-2021 academic year in Myanmar would normally have been during the first week of June, 2020. However, in such unprecedented times with Covid-19 impacting the world, the colleges and boarding center were unable to open. Schools have been closed, with only essential businesses allowed to function. **CAMBODIA.** Mrs. Campbell was in Cambodia in early December 2019 and was thrilled at the progress being made towards the sustainability of the work and ministries of the Hope House Organization. She visited the Hope House school and farmland in Kompong Speu province. The fishponds were being prepared for the annual fish harvest and the goats were multiplying at a fast rate. The two ponds yielded just over 1,400 Red Nile Tilapia, enough to feed the school children for several months of the year. The reservoir, at the end of the farmland, was not restocked with catfish this year because of difficulties with harvesting them, and the threat of thieves at night. A mother goat gave birth to triplets, the first for the Hope House farm, which now has 106 goats; funds from the sale of the goats help towards the school budget. A chicken project, with 16 chickens and 14 chicks, is being piloted by the farm manager, in the development towards sustainability. The Hope House school has over 200 children in daily attendance, and there are many more who have already registered to start school in January, 2021. Thankfully Hope House school only closed for two months in April / May during the official Covid-19 lockdown; government schools in Phnom Penh have been closed for six months, with children having to work online. The more remote countryside areas have not been able to do this for lack of internet facilities. Principal, Yem Sarorn and his teachers, were happy for Hope House school to remain open, to help the children in the remote rural villages. The staff supervised social-distancing, hand-sanitising and temperature-taking every day, with children divided into morning and afternoon sessions for reduced class sizes. ## **2.** Professor A. Miller, Hong Kong, was unable to travel to Cambodia because of the death of his father, in Scotland. The veterinarian, Dr A. James, has completed his contract at the University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, and returned to his native Australia. His expertise has been invaluable, and he will be greatly missed. Mrs. Campbell reported that Hope House Organization is managed very effectively by the Director, Yem Sarorn, whose wise, committed, and caring leadership is highly respected by his staff, villagers, local authorities, and the parents of the school children. The clinics, held at the Hope House school medical center, and conducted by Dr Tom Johnson, have continued to provide essential medical help and medicines both to the school children and villagers. The local communities have continued to benefit from the medical consultations and treatment. In March 2020, Mrs. Campbell had planned to travel to Cambodia, but the lockdown in Hong Kong and travel restrictions on all flights meant that the visit had to be cancelled. The year 2020 has been a tumultuous year when the Pandemic brought chaos and disruption to daily life, travel, and work. The Campbells have been grounded in Hong Kong because of successive lockdowns. Therefore, they were not able to undertake their annual deputation meetings in the U.K. in August / September. However, many churches and individuals sent their donations directly to SRM International in St Helens. This has been a great encouragement and enabled SRM International to continue its funding of such worthwhile projects and organisations as detailed in this report. The Campbells have continued to maintain regular contact with the leaders, both in Myanmar and Cambodia, and have been kept fully appraised of the difficulties, challenges, and opportunities which they are experiencing in these troublesome times.
