OUR AIMS & OBJECTIVES
FUNDING & FINANCE
From the 1997 Constitution
The object of the Association is the advancement of education and conservation by promoting, undertaking and making public historical research and archaeological investigation into the landscape of the Parish of Sedgeford in the county of Norfolk and of adjoining and neighbouring Parishes (hereinafter together referred to as "the Research Area"). The results of the work will be disseminated by publications, exhibitions, public lectures and other means

The 2024 Season
Gareth gave an introduction to the activities and achievement of SHARP this year. Despite the project going on for nearly 30 years he is impressed with new discoveries, the new people and increased enthusiasm and interest in the research into this seemingly normal Norfolk parish. The more work we do in it the less normal it seems, although what is normal for Norfolk seems an appropriate question. In 2023 we had some burials between the kitchen, track and find/information huts. Tantalising glimpse of another Middle-Late Saxon cemetery focus, and makes us reevaluate the use of space. This year there is work being carried on two kilns on the malting site. We have also been looking in the car park area at what is a postmedieval trackway, and evaluating the archaeology underneath this to the Saxon layers and beyond. Just today we believe we have found a burial, perhaps crouched, although I am holding my judgement as I did say if it wasn’t Saxon I would buy everyone a beer! Since the death of founder director Neil in 2022, it has been an uncertain time. He inspired a lot of people with his research insight and energy, so to have these results is excellent. In the last couple of years we have a huge change in personnel and the committee, not least people like me coming in. We have also had the well documented financial situation in the press now, with our former treasurer, and we will update on that later this evening. Given all the uncertainty, the fact that we have offered a great 2024 whilst also undertaking much needed work on our constitution, which although we have multiple reiterations it has not been correctly updated with charity commission. The fact that we could do that while also delivering the 2024 season is a testament to the work and support of the trustees, committee, team and volunteers. Gareth I am stepping down as chair after tonight but will remain on the committee. I would encourage everyone that is invested in SHARP to commit time and energy to help us where you can.

SHARP wouldn't exist without the huge amount of volunteer time spent behind the scenes before, during and after the season. A huge thank you to all those people who make it possible.

I would like to highlight the following achievements this year. · Much needed work on constitution · Updating governance and financial systems · As well as the archaeology we have also kept a pace with our specialist work, environmental processing. · Developed some new courses · Successful open day, 250 visitors, £1200 money raised. · Ellie in tours and visits, Friends of SHARP and NWNHS. · Four great lectures, including last nights where Sophie Cabot stepped in last minute. · Working towards sustainability grant, to get our own solar etc. · Post-excavation backlog has been worked on, including the Roman project. · Archive has been worked on at the moment, with the help of a grant NNAS · Vastly improved site infrastructure. · Merchandise improvements, including our own newsletter. The organisation as a whole has a huge amount of talent within in, and associated with it and long may it continue. I will go away with a real positive opinion.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 28[th] February 2023 .
- Responsibilities and As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation basis of report of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have examiner's statement come to my attention in connection with the examination (other than that disclosed below *) which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:

the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
• the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
