roles and responsibilities of the Emmaus UK and all feder*ion members.
We have also been actively involved wrth the Evol￿n9 Emmaus prcws, wrth our CEO and Choir sitting on the
steering group, and companions sffting on all companion groups.
The staff and companion are encouraged to aliend all Emmaus UK peer support groups, with one of our
companions actively involved in the nalhjnal compank)n forum and the prc#Juction of the Companion Voice
One member of Stsff and one wmpaniorb attended the Emmaus World Assembty in Uruguay.

Having resumed almost nomial activit￿$ follwng Cowd. 98VA of all Companions at EC have had all of their
COV￿ vaccines and boosters, and we remained ￿lat￿e￿ unscathed by the ongoing pandemic in the year.
Throughout the year the communty has consistently been over 90% full, meaning over 40 Companions living and
working in the community. Some ol our Companions are vulnerable bul we have managed lo organise work so
that they can work in the Mmmunity and others Can work in the shcp and interface with the public. We continue
to work wlh companions lo hdp them rebuild their lives and have had a number of successful movevon's, where
cornpani¢)ns mve into their uwn accon¥n￿alIofi and jobs in the eorrNnunrty.

The Board has welcomed a ne•¥ Chair of trustees. John Humpston, atKI two new trustees during the year, who

arnazing job during his tenure as Chair for the last yea￿. To the great &•Jness of the whole of the Emmaus
community, Matthew recently passed away.

Demand for colle¢tKJns continues to be strong and we make behveen 20 and 30 collections over 5 days each
week of donated goods. The number of rtem$ offered continues to rise and although not all rtems offered are
suitable. which has increased our disposal costs. we work hard to minwnise what we send to landfil.
Donations lo site continue to be gc(xl wth an average 430 donatKJns per week, the qualty of the donat￿nS has
impioved from lasl year.

Weekly meetings of the communrty take place lo discuss and agree decisions wh￿h affeet rt. Two
volunteer companions. acting as observets are also invited to attend antl parti¢ipale in board meetings.
Companions are also engaged exten5ivety in decisions through Ihe Committees, the solidarity subcommittee and
working groups and daily meetings. Full con5uliations wth companions are also undertaken on strategic issues
and major projects.

The financial staternents have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 1021-
Accountin9 and Reporting by Chants"es.' Statement of Recommended Practi￿ applicable to charities
preparing their accounts in accordance wrth the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK
and RepublK of Ireland {FRS 102) (effective 1 January 20191. the Finanual Reporting Standard
applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021 and the Companies A¢t 2006.

2.10 LIABILITIES AND PROVISIONS
Liabilities are recc#3nised when there is an obligation at the Balan￿ Sheet dale as a result of a past
event. It is prL*Jable that a transfer ol economic benefit wll be require(l in settlement, and the amount
of the settlement can be eStIrr￿&j relkgbly.
Liabilities are reccgnised at the amount that the Chafrty anticipates it will pay to settle the debt or the
amount il has receNed as advanced payments for the gockys Of services it rnusl provide.
Provisions are measured at the best estimate of the amounts required to settle the oblwation. Where
the effect of the time value of money Is material, the provision is based on the present value of those
amounts, discounted at the pre-tax discount rate thal retlects the risks specific to the liability. The
unwinding of the discounl is rec(￿nised in the Consolklated Statement of Financial Activrties as a
finance cost.
2.11 FINANCIAL INSTRUMENTS
The Charty C￿lY has financial assets and financial liabilities of a kind that qualrfy as basic financial
inslrumenls. Basic financial instruments are initialty reco9nised al transaction valve and subsequently
measured at their settlemenl value vrith the exceplton of bank loans which are subsequently
measured al arn0￿.5ed t￿$t u%ng the effective interest n￿ho(l.
2.12 PENSIONS
The Charty operates a defined contrtsutTon penS￿n Sch￿ and the pension eharge represents the
amoun15 payable by the Charity to the fund in respect of the year.
2.13 FUNOACCOUNTING
General funds ao unrestricled funds which are aval￿b￿ for use at the discretion of the Trustees in
furtherance of Ihe genwal objectives of the Group and which have not been designated for other
purposes.
Designated fvnds comprise Un￿tri￿ed funds that have been set aside by the Trustees for particular
purposes The aim and use of each designated tund is set out in the notes lo the financial
statements.
Restricted funds are fun¢Js which a￿ to be used in xcordartce wi(h specrfie restrict￿)n$ imposed by
donors or which have been raised by the Group f¢X particular purposes. The costs of raising and
administering such fund5 are charged against the speerfie fund. The aim and use of each restricted
fund is set out in the notes to the financial sL*ements.
Inveslrnent income, gains and losses are alb&ited lo the appropriate fund.

The N*ional Lottery Building Fund represents capital 9rants from the National Lottery Charrties eoard lo
fund building works at the communty in prev￿)US years Expenditure on this fund rep￿SentS depreciation
charged for the year. The National Lottery Charities Board require caprtal grants lo be accounted for as
restricted funds and lo be charged wrth the depreuation of the undertying assets. Thwe are vafiOUS grant
conditions that require the Trustees to obtain The National Lottery Board's pefmission to sell the building
