THE RUDE MECHANICAL THEATRE COMPANY LTD
REPORT OF THE DIRECTORS
The directors present their report and the financial statements for the year ended 31st October 2025.
The Company was incorporated on 13th March 1997. It is a company limited by guarantee and not
having a share capital and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. The
Company's charitable purpose is the advancement of drama. There have been no changes to the
charity's objectives or policies during the year.
The Directors have considered the statutory reporting requirements applicable to the charity and, as
the Company's income remains below the threshold requiring an independent examination, have
elected to take advantage of the exemption available under the Charities Act.
REVIEW OF ACTIVITIES
During the year the Company undertook its annual programme of professional touring with Gentle
Harry's Farm, a reimagined version of the Company's own production first performed in 2011. The
production was programmed to tour 44 perforMan￿S across Southern England, concluding with the
Company's now well*stablished week of performances in its circus tent in Eastbourne.
The principal aim of the charity remains to advance drama by bringing high-quality professional
theatre to communities throughout Southern England, particularly to rural towns and villages where
opportunities to experience live performance are often limited. The trustees believe that this
programme of touring continues to provide significant public benefit by making professional theatre
accessible to audiences who might otherwise have limited opportunity to experien￿ it.
Of the 44 programmed perfOrman￿S, 43 were successfully completed. One perf0rrnan￿ was
transferred into a village hall because of adverse weather conditions. ensuring that audien￿$ were
still able to experience the production. A further Performan￿ at Worth Matravers was Can￿lled
during the interval because of a severe thunderstorm which presented a risk to the safety of the
audience, cast and staff. The trustees considered the safety of all those attending and participating in
the event to be paramount. The majority of ticket holders subsequently transferred their bookings to
other performances in Dorset, allowing the charity to continue delivering its programme whilst
minimising inconvenience lo audiences.
The season enabled the charity to deliver its programme to strong audiences across Southern
England. A total of 6,250 tickets were sold, making it the eighth highest-attended tour in the
Company's history despite there being five fewer performances than the previous year. Ticket sales
generated £138,026.99, the highest ticket income achieved by the Company to date, while average
attendance reached 142 audien￿ members per perfomance, the fifth highest average attendan￿ in
the Company's history. Alongside ticket sales, audiences continued to support the charity through
programme sales, merchandise purchases, raffles, refreshments and voluntary donations.
Merchandise sales ex￿eded expectations, requiring additional stock to be purchased during the
season. The continued generosity of audiences and supporters remains an important Contribution
towards the charity's work and its long-term sustainability.

THE RUDE MECHANICAL THEATRE COMPANY LTD
The Company gratefully acknowledges grant funding received during the year from Chichester
District Council and the Sylvia Waddilove Foundation UK. The trustees are also grateful for the
continuing support received through the Wealden Community Lottery, together with the generosity of
the charity's many individual donors and supporters. Their continued support plays an important role
in enabling the Company to fulfil its charitable objectives. The trustees continued to exercise careful
financial oversight throughout the year. Whilst expenditure increased in several areas, including
digital marketing, vehicle maintenance and the maintenance of the Company's pageant wagon, these
investments were considered necessary to maintain the quality, safety and long-term sustainability of
the Company's touring operation.
Careful budget management in other areas enabled these additional costs to be absorbed, and the
charity concluded the financial year in a sound financial position. The charity finished the year with
healthy reserves. The trustees consider the Maintenan￿ of appropriate reserves to be an essential
element of prudent financial management, providing resilience against unforeseen circumstances
whilst enabling continued investment in future productions and the ongoing development of the
Company's charitable activities.
In planning and carrying out the year's activities, the trustees have had due regard to the Charty
Commission's guidance on public benefit and are satisfied that the charity has continued to fuFfil its
charitable purpose by advancing drama through the provision of professional touring theatre.
The trustees remain committed to maintaining affordable ticket prices wherever possible whilst
continuing to invest in the artistic quality, accessibility and long-term sustainability of the Company's
work.
The directors wish to place on record their sincere thanks to the Company's staff, actors, musicians,
volunteers, host venues, local organisers, grant-making bodies, donors and audiences. Their
continued commitment, generosity and enthusiasm remain fundamental to the success of the charity
and its ability to continue advancing drama through professional touring theatre.
