Aims and Organisation
Lions Club International
Tonbridge Lions Club is a local club and forms as part of Lions Clubs International voluntary service organisation that helps supports and guides local clubs to serve their local communities. Clubs are chartered as separate entities with their own constitution but have links to other clubs in their Zone, to their District in the South East of England, the Multiple District of the UK and Ireland and to Lions Clubs International.
Tonbridge Lions Club
Tonbridge Lions Club is a voluntary organisation which exists to help the local community and support, as it seems fit, Lions Club national and international projects.
The Administration of the Club is wholly financed by its members. All time to organise activities to raise funds and provide community service is given freely by the members and friends of the club, for no payment or reward.
Tonbridge Club was the first Lions Club to be formed in the UK. Chartered in 1950 and is one of the largest Clubs in the Country.
Main Activities Undertaken
Over the year Tonbridge Lions Club held the following fund raising events.
Christmas Barrel Organ Collection, Car Tour, Community Fete, Dragon Boat Race, Half Marathon, Mini Fetes, Triathlon and Collection of Waste Paper.
In addition, the club was able to provide the following service activities:
Christmas Distribution, Diabetes Screening, It’s a Knockout, Lions Day, Message in a Bottle (MIAB), School Choir, Senior Singles Party and Musical Memories.
The Trustees consider that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the Commission’s Public Benefit Guidance when exercising any powers or duties to which the guidance is relevant.
Main Achievements of the year:
Tonbridge Lions Club raised £30,224 in general fundraising (£27,417 in 202324).
This includes £1,596 in general donations to the club.
Charitable grants/donations made by the Trust in support of the charitable objectives this year have totalled £15,527 (£13,927 in 2023-24).
Donations to Local Charities totalled £14,232 and to Local Youth totalled £3295.
Charity’s Policy on Reserves
The Charity has a reserve policy and always ensures that sufficient funds are maintained to meet the Charitable commitments made by the club.
Review of Financial Activities and Affairs
The Receipts and Payments accounts of the Tonbridge Lions Club Charity Trust th Fund for the year ended 30 June 2025 are attached to this report. These have been independently examined and approved.
